I have tried loading one of the demos but it complained that my sample rate was incorrect.

How do I find out what it should be so I can change it?

Good catch . . .
What is the deal with that?  I checked and Rasure is indeed correct . . . Why 200+ Mb smaller?

This is because the Boutique Suite no longer contains Cakewalk TH3.  Cakewalk TH3 is now contained in the core Sonar installation package, which, coincidentally is 200mb larger.

thanks for the info - how did you know that? (it may be obvious, but I do not know at this time)

UPDATE:  I did go back and tried to find where it said that this was done - only recall see the "end" article mentioning TH3 is now in "ALL" sonar versions

I have now successfully updated from the Early Access build. I downloaded only the file that Lance mentioned and ran that manually. Then I ran C3 and updated the BoutiqueFXSuiteSetup and got the demo files (just curious). All seems fine now.

Per Lance, TH3 is now included in all SONAR versions which I guess is why they had to move it to the core install package.

Since its introduction, TH3 Cakewalk has always been bundled with all versions of SONAR. I suspect the move was to cut down on support tickets from users who had not installed the plug-ins but still attempted to load projects and FX chains that referenced the plug-in. IOW, TH3 Cakewalk is now part of the SONAR core like the SONITUS Suite.

I think if everything is green in that installer application, then you need make no changes.

I am pretty sure that's exactly what Lance is saying *isn't* the case - that since the version number did not change between early access and release build (umm, why not, if there were changes?) CCC will think everything is up to date but it actually isn't.

In any case, I did what I suggested above - rolled back to previous release, deleted the EA installer file, ran the update from CCC, any everything worked and seems to be ticking along nicely, so if anyone else wants to do that rather than manually running the instally, it does seem to work, or at least it did here...

The changes were not part of the SONAR app itself, just related files that it uses (like templates), thus the version number remained the same as Early Access.

OK that makes sense... anyway it all worked out, and I'm actually quite pleased with the new start screen - I've found myself exploring the Discover tab more than I think I would have otherwise, and I like the ctl-N and ctl-O functionality, that seems about right.

Has anyone else tried clicking on the Discover logo above the grid on the start screen? Kind of interesting...

You will see the format in the transport module, left from BPM.
All the demos so far use 44.1 kHz, 24 bits.

This 'couldn't play because' is quite irritating with Sonar - or is it somehow related to the audio interface ?
At a minimum, it should indicate what it is expecting, such as Couldn't play 44.1/24 in current configuration.
Even better, it should auto-change the parameters of the audio interface automatically.

I haven't spent a lot of time testing, but somehow the problem seems to fade away the second time one opens a demo project.

Kudos to Cakewalk for finally shipping a few demo projects, that will be very useful to show bugs, share techniques, learn and so forth.

However, they are very simple in their track count, midi usage (only 1 demo) and vsti usage (0 demo).
I hope Cakewalk will in the future add other projects more representative of (a big part ?) of its audience, with many Vstis, Plugins and tracks.
There are enough VSTis and plugins shipping in Sonar for demos projects that can be opened by all Sonar customers.

Hi. They default to C:\Cakewalk Content\Demo Projects. You can just delete the "Demo Projects" folder.

Agreed. It's kind of strange for a DAW that started as a MIDI sequencer and both MIDI and VST(i) usage is kind of a strong suit. Maybe the community can submit some material, using only included instruments and effects? And/or showcasing some of the company's paid addons like Rapture Pro and z3ta+2? Just a thought...

The demo projects are designed to work across all version of SONAR, so they don't include a lot of content that's specific to Professional/Platinum.

rog999I have tried loading one of the demos but it complained that my sample rate was incorrect.

My audio device only supports 48kHz and 96kHz in ASIO mode. If I load a 44.1kHz project, I have to switch to WASAPI mode to be able to work with the project.

Check your "Driver Mode" on the "Playback and Recording" section of the Preferences dialog box.

When a future update states they've created a Tab section that works strongly with their next phase.........a tabbed section designed for rock steady use with live performances, such as Live does, and one can go from real creations to a performing screen like Ableton Live or Studio-one (I believe), and notation, touch screen moving from song to song, set to set..... we'll soon see Sonar take first place in all software polls.

Able to make great music.
Able to use on stage and live performance .
Able to set up large touch screens for karaoke type use.
Able to have true music on large floor screens or teleprompter style hints for performers

A big touch enabled floor screen to control an upgraded SONAR tweaked for live performance would be frigging awesome. It would have to be beer-proof of course.

That's been there for a long time. Get yourself a Behringer fcb1010 MIDI controller with the moded eprom for about 150 bucks and set up MIDI bindings. As beer save as you can get as it contains very little electronics that you could repair yourself ... anything with a cpu and a screen needs to be safely away from audiences and not at your feet if you want to be sure to get the full performance done

You can open a new project at any time, with the start screen open or closed, without having to name it or create a folder by typing Ctrl+N. Ctrl+O works similarly. Please read the eZine for details, especially for how to use Ctrl+N when you want to have multiple SONAR projects open simultaneously.

As to your template, I'll install 2017.08 my main computer and see what happens. On the office computer I'm using now, I moved all my existing templates to a different folder to see which six templates SONAR installed.

Thank you, Craig, for your answer. You are right I started play with new Sonar not looking at eZine. And I was unpleasantly surprised by changed Sonar behaviour about my habits. Of course, it is nice addition Ctrl-N feature but for me if it is addition not replacement. Kind of microsoft-ish  in type 'we know better how you should work' :(
Sure, I can get used with Crtl-N instead mouse click. I have wide keyboard but when I spread enough my fingers of my left hand I can reach 'N' .  I could also redefine my shortcut probably to have it more convenient but now after lesson learned I  must remember to export them as with last update I lost my previous ones... Maybe I am cursed but almost after every update there are something I need to adjust to my pre-update settings :( Plugins membership, some options etc, now few other things... This time little bit painful of course is my template lost. Sure, I should do backup it, and in fact it is not such big deal to create it again from scratch... But it is a little bit annoying if you would ask me about my feelings after updates...

Anyway, I will try probably new update every month as I have always big curiosity of new things and first of all Sonar still lacks many things which I would desperately need to improve/fix so I hope every month something of those magically will appear...

BTW another thing seems to disappear... In one of my project files set I had midi file  to keep tempo as it was changing many times. I imported it after update to empty project to start with tempo set and after it import waves and nothing... No tempo changed... I fall into doubts maybe thought it was not correct midi... So imported into MuLab (free DAW) to check it and ta-dam, I got tempo set...
So I am cursed or developers don't like me and there is special algorithm 'if user=Piotr than disable random_but_important_for_him' feature' :-/

Regards,
Piotr

SONAR strips tempo data from MIDI files during import. Instead of importing the MIDI file, open the MIDI file. Opening the file will preserve the tempo data. Then save as a new Cakewalk project.

You can find the latest Tech+Music eZine for 2017.08 on issuu.com, or open it directly from the 30 Years page.

The 30 Years page is also where you can redeem the 30 new CA-X series amp sim effects chains.

Many thanks both to you and the bakers for all you do!

I do have a question, however. I did DL the 30th Anniversary TH3 presets and ran the installer, but TH3 doesn't seem to find them (it's probably me, I'm sure. I've just started looking at TH3 as I've used Guitar Rig mostly to this point). And also, in Tech + Music, when discussing the the presets, there is a picture of something at the top of each preset article that looks like an amp head; is that a "view" for TH3? How do I get there?

Again, please forgive my unfamiliarity with TH3; I'm sure that my "dunderheadedness" is at the root of these issues.

Thanks in advance.

“Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy” is attributed to Benjamin Franklin perhaps in error, but the thought remains a worthy sentiment nonetheless.

Look in the FX Chain folder under Audio FX in the browser for the 30th Anniversary CA-X Amps.

Thanks, Scook! Will do when I get home.

“Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy” is attributed to Benjamin Franklin perhaps in error, but the thought remains a worthy sentiment nonetheless.

In one of my project files set I had midi file  to keep tempo as it was changing many times. I imported it after update to empty project to start with tempo set and after it import waves and nothing... No tempo changed...

SONAR strips tempo data from MIDI files during import. Instead of importing the MIDI file, open the MIDI file. Opening the file will preserve the tempo data. Then save as a new Cakewalk project.

Yes, you are right. Thank you. It is opening, not importing modifying tempo.

Piotr
