Yep, I love those oval faders. I lost em when I loaded on 8.3.1 and had to "repatch" em. Now...I've got my color scheme (It's called Cafe Latte...tres chic, or is that cheap?) but I haven't the foggiest how to get the "clr" file here. Help a brotha out, will ya?

Don't understand your question 'olpal! but I haven't the foggiest how to get the "clr" file here Do you want to get a .clr file that's here somewhere or do you want to post a clr file that you have for us to get access to? If its the latter then you need to host it somewhere and then just post the link to it. YOu can use free sites like MegaUpload to upload your file to, then place the link for it in a post.

Sherwin Williams Colors in Sonar
2009/03/17 15:37:48
(permalink)
I was messing around with my color scheme and found out I could use the Sherwin Williams Color Visualizer to create nice color groups for the audio and midi tracks. When you open the color visualizer on the Sherwin Williams website you can click on a color and and see it's red, green, and blue properties in numerical form. It just so happens that these figures create almost an identicle color in Sonar when entered in the custom color appet. I thought that was pretty cool and came up with a color palette I like and feel is not a strain on my eyes. Also I painted my house using Sherwin Williams pain so if I really wanted to geek out I could match the color palate in Sonar to the color palette of my home's interior. However, I chose to refrain from such an indulgence. You can find the Sherwin Williams Color Visualilzer here: http://www.sherwin.com/visualizer/ I like Earthy tones for my colors. I also like to make it clear and easy to see track name and track number information. Most of the default color schemes in Sonar do not do a good job of keeping the basic aspects of the screen reasonable. Here are some screen shots of my first attempt at using the Sherwin Williams colors: Download the Schemes HERE Track View - Earth Tones Console View Track View - Shades of Blue

Hey all Just a quick note to let you know that Evan's latest little mindblowing scheme is now available at: http://sonartemplates.googlepages.com/darktemplates (thanks Ev, I still can't get my head around how these schemes enable you to make the lovely, peaceful, sounds you do but I ain't going to knock it!) Yorolpal, you got mail - Sorry about the delay getting back to you, my studio is dismantled at the moment :-( as I'm about to move house :-) so I've not been round these parts much of late. (although I've got it downloaded I've not even been able to play with 8.3.1 yet! :-( x2!) As ever my offer is still ongoing, if you have a colour scheme you would like to share with the Cakewalk Community just mail it to popworks@gmail.com and I'll get it posted on the site at http://sonartemplates.googlepages.com Cheers Child

CHILD YOU ARE THE MAN Thank you for what you do. I just got 2 26" Visio High-def monitors and thought you all might get a kick out of the concept- I'll try to post some photos etc but i highly recommend dual mode large monitors! 26" isn't huge but it seems pretty practical when you're sitting in front of it. The glass-face Visio's are pretty nice, too. hope I can figure out how to post photos in any way... http://sonartemplates.googlepages.com/EvSonarColorsNew.JPG/EvSonarColorsNew-full.JPG

This may seem dumb, but are these schemes safe for any version of Sonar? Some appear to be pretty old.

Hi Yorolpal Yup got your scheme this morning and just posted it up. You can get Yorolpal's Cafe Latte Scheme here: http://sonartemplates.googlepages.com/lighttemplates @Twisted6s - My completely unqualified reaction to your question is that there shouldn't be any issues with using older schemes. They are very simple text scripts (try opening one in notepad) I'm guessing that the worst thing that could happen is that Cake could rename colour elements internally so that some schemes may not work. Does anyone with any real insight know? If anyone does find a broken or damaged scheme on the site please let me know so I can take remedial measures. Cheers Child

Well that stinks. I went to install Buddy's faders and it tells me that the file to be updated, TTSRes17.dll doesn't exist. Any ideas? When that installer creates a back up where does it store it, maybe something happened with the last one and i can put the original back, then install the new faders. Mike

You've got to have the file in the Sonar directory before you run it. Check back over this thread and you'll find the exact instructions.

Ok, thanks My ol' pal. I got them working. Next question: How do i change the color scheme of the meters in the console view? If i change the meters in the color options it only changes them in the Track view but the console stays the same. Mike

Mike, You need to open the meter properties (under options) and uncheck segmented meters in the console view. Then the meters will match the track view meters. Hope that helps, Eric

Hi Buddy, I am most impressed with your rounded faders UI tweak. If only Cakewalk would employ a graphics guy like yourself to overhaul the whole look. How do you do the hacking of the dll? Is it too complex for us amateurs to do or does it require a heap of stuff? Finally. I cannot install the 8.3 hack as this doesn't run on 8.3.1. Will you be updating your hack at all. Keep up the good work Chris

Hi Chris, thanks for the kind words! check my signature for the latest version of the faders (just make sure to download the correct 32-bit or 64-bit version...depending on which version of Sonar you have installed) I use Restorator 2007, although it's over 3 years old, it's one of the best if not the best resource editing program out there. You need a graphics creation program like Gimp (free) or photoshop (which is quite expensive if you're not a dedicated designer)...so gimp is probably the best way to go and is updated regularly. Using Restorator, you need to find the UI files you would like to alter, export them (as *.bmp) and then change them to what you wish. All of these graphics have set dimensions that can't be altered (from a designers POV), so its important not to change any sizes as they are hard-coded into the program. save the final design changes with gimp, etc as a bmp and use restorator to replace the images in the original file. that's the basis of it, hope it helps.

I work with large templates and I'd like to know if there's a way to utilze colors in this way : To give differing colors to Tracks and/ or Track Folders in the Tracks Pane & Console views. For example: VLNS 1: Track Folder: Dark blue; Track Labels : medium blue. VLNS 2: Trk Folder: Dark Green; Track Labels: Light Green and so on. I've, for instance, 17 Vln FX patches in play from East West XP Gold alone, so varied color labeling, particularly when jumping around to faders would be of at least if not maybe more benefit even then instrument icons. Not to be forgotten though is that I really like the ability to freshen the view or even just rest the eye impact by moving from color scheme to scheme. Thanks for a great product. g.c.

So I was messing with a resource editor and I got the "slider" for the console to replace, but it has the gray box around it. Since I can't assign a png as a resource with a transparent background where that box is and bmp doesn't support transparency, how do you go about replacing these things? I would guess alree or buddy can pretty easily answer this one.

The gray doesn't show, only the slider and its drop shadow. You just need to make sure that the gray background has the correct values. ie. same as the original.

I did that - used a sample of the color from several different programs. Tried exporting with 256 color and 24bit color. Is 32bit required? I'm using both Xara Xtreme nd Paint Shop Pro as my apps and neither one seems to be exporting the right thing here.
