Seth,

I have a couple of questions on the step sequencer....

1. I have a 6 beat pattern, each beat has 12 steps. I set this up to sequence a 6/8 shuffle groove session drummer track. Do I have the beat/steps resolution setup correctly?

2. How do I resize the step sequencer's grid view so that I can see ALL  the grids and not have to scroll forward and backward when inputting notes?

Thanks.

Excellent videos!

I have a quick question related to early on in the first video, when "proper gain staging" was set-up.  The trim was set to '-6.2', which seemed to be a somewhat arbitrary number rather than basing it on level checking.

So my question is, is it possible to meter the input to a track (whether an audio track or a session drummer output track) as well as the output?

TIA :o)

For 6/8 12 steps is ok, but you can use 6 also. 12 will simply give you twice the resolution of 6. Unfortunately there is no way to resize the Step Sequencer right now, but it sounds like a nice feature request!

Ston,

You can switch the Track Meter to show Input or Output level in the Meter Options. I don't think it's necessary to set a synth's input to a specific, exact level. It just needs to not clip, so -6 to -12 should do the trick in most cases.

Hi Seth, the reason I have my steps set to 12 is because of the shuffle groove nature of the pattern. I need to be able to input dotted eight notes. I believe 6 steps will not make this possible...or will it?

Thanks again.

I agree with all that have complimented on the quality of the recent videos. I really liked the first Master Class vids. They really gave me a new perspective on Step Seq 3. Tried using previous versions and never really got any use out of it. These vids have me going back to see what I can do with this tool.

There was a lot of feaures that I knew was in Sonar, but until I saw these in use, I always wondered "Why?" Now I know. As someone earlier said, "my eyes are now opened."

Excellent job Cakewalk. And to ALL who made all these videos possibile - THANK YOU!~!

Is it possible to get these in a form so we can download them (at an internet cafe, for example) and then copy them to our studio PCs at home?

The Drum Master Class was a stroke of genius!
I have been slowly trying to ween myself off using my old Roland TR-707 for programming all my initial drums (then editing later in Sonar).  This video really helped open my eyes to ways I never thought of.   Using the track-layers function for slight modifications is so intuitive and I never even began to think of that!!!!

I'm lovin' the announcer's lingo too...

"You can bet these samples sound SUPER-TIGHT."
"Steven Slate is a MANIAC when it comes to multi-sampled drum kits."
"Up to and including 24 (semitones), which is two octaves for those of you keeping score at home."
"And that feature my friends is called the track template."
"OK, I'm not going to ask you to "watch paint dry" but I am going to go ahead and name my tracks."
"But editing someone else's MIDI track is NOT why I'm here."
"This is where the FUN begins."
"Nice. Now I've a got a little groove goin', but I'm not satisfied yet."

Watched the whole series and made me realise that I ought to upgrade from 7PE to 8.5 for StepSequencer2.0 and the VX64 perc strip(although most of that is do-able in Battery3).............kinda wishing I hadn't looked now.

SOOO Good for newbies (like me eg.) to the full Sonar functions!!

I learned a huge amount on this 5 part series. Watched it straight thru. I agree with others that the download section would be nice on the Cakewalk site as well for easier access..
I never liked realplayer due to their little cookies and tracking they do, but if that's the only way then so be it.

Thanks again Seth & Cakewalk...I need it all..keep it up!
