Jonbouy, Have you actually used the Pro Channel?
No, do you have any true specs on it that would convince me I'd need it?
Perhaps you just buy stuff that people tell you is real cool.

Johnbouy
I just don't get why you are dragging stuff down that you haven't even tried. I don't have any desire to convince you of anything. I upgraded to X1 because I have been using Cakewalk stuff for years and trust the brand. I have been using X1 since December 2010 and have no regrets whatsoever. I also have had very few problems with it.
Why don't you download the free demo and try it out before you knock it? I just don't get it.
I am trying to support the brand that I know and trust so that they can continue to develop great products. How are you helping?

I'm helping myself by trying to ascertain what I'm actually getting if I make a purchase.

Why is that difficult for you to understand?

This is a commercial vendors product site and I'm seeking value for money from a firm and a product that's already convinced me in the past to buy and incidentally that I am still overall happy with.  Frankly what I'm seeing just now looks like more froth than beer, just to me maybe.  You are of course entitled to your own view which may well differ.

Kindly explain to me where and why my views of what I'm seeing are wrong.  Now that would be helpful rather than trying to undermine the validity of what I am saying because to you it sounds like some kind of blasphemy or whatever it is that irks you about me trying to make a purchase desicion.

btw I don't remember having an opinion on what you choose to buy or don't buy, and I'm unlikely to in the future.  So either explain where what I'm seeing is mistaken or kindly leave me alone in my quest.

Thank you.

As a reminder these I understand are the things provided for $49 in Expanded.

1/ The ability to add standard VST's that have been specifically nobbled only to work in Pro Channel.

2/ A Reason 3 (or greater) style combinator device to combine several FX into one.

3/ An extra notation program output format.

4/ Direct uploads to Soundcloud.

5/ Replace Synth

6/ Dragging into the Browser

7/ Whatever we're forgetting or haven't been told yet

Then you add $49

You can then get the PC4K S-Type Expander / Gate ProChannel module.

Or get the Expanded and the module together for $79 + $99 to migrate to X1

Have I got it right or not?

$179 would be great value to me if it provided some capability that I don't already have.

We made a huge change with X1 and we're committed to make it the best DAW we can and expand it to its fullest capabilities before moving on to the next version of SONAR. That's not to say we can make every single change or bring back every single feature that you guys want within X1's life cycle, but we've changed our release cycle to allow more time between major version releases, and we hope that benefits both the program and all of our users alike.

This is the best news I have heard since joining Sonar community. Fingers crossed :)

Seth kinda confirms what I was thinking (and saying in various forums) about Cake's new schedule of releases.  They are nickel and dimeing for feature upgrades - if you want it.  And surprise - they are adding some fixes to these paid releases.  They get paid for what people are willing to shell out while Cake takes more time to fix the complaints/bugs in X1, rather than needing to release X2 with the attendent "features" to make people want to pay for the entire upgrade rather than fixes (for which they don't get paid for).

There were forum complaints about the next release taking so long and complaints about too soon and not fixing bugs or adding what some people considered necessary features (like a better notation).  This strikes a middle ground, tho of course won't stop the complaints.  But it seems reasonable and smart to this dumb Texas boy.  Keep the bakers (and the front office types) getting paid while they fix bugs and add enhancements.  sure beats them going out of business and leaving us with bugs and no new features.  Those that are poor or are too mad to pay for enchancements can wait for the bug release.
