SONAR "Foxboro" update now available

The SONAR "Foxboro" update continues to make improvements in core SONAR functionality, as well as add enhancements to the critically-acclaimed Cakewalk Drum Replacer. “Foxboro” also includes Strum Session 2 and a new EDM Percussion Loops Library from Craig Anderton. And of course, we couldn’t release Foxboro without poking a little fun at the recent New England Patriots controversy with our own version of Deflate Gate.

This is a free update for all existing SONAR Artist, Professional, and Platinum users.

Aaaaagh! I was going to download Everett before the update but have been busy and waited too long/didn't realize how much time has passed.

lol... when updates and improvements are coming TOO fast you know you've got it good.

Still, it would be nice if us dum dum slackers/nervous ninnies could download older releases if we don't get to them fast enough.

But that doesn't work unless you actually downloaded and installed the previous release though... right?

And of course I'm an offliner so not sure about that type of rollback anyway.

Essentially I'm doing everything in my power to sabotage myself. I'm sure this new release is better anyway. Gave them a chance to hammer out any weirdness with the introduction of the DR. I can wait for the reviews to come in.

The Command Center can rollback to any previous version available to you. It does not matter if the version was never installed before. If the files are not found in the download cache, the Command Center will download them. My machine is always connected to the internet so I have no experience with the remote process.

So I'm assuming due to your online status and having CCC installed that the files are automagically downloaded, stored and ready to go at a moment's notice for installs/rollbacks/etc.

Of course that is ultra convenient but I despise myself so I can't have nice things like that.

It's fine. I didn't NEED Everett anyway. Now that I'm seeing the quickfixes getting doled out rapidly I'm not worried and frankly I am far too busy to even worry about it. I'm not experiencing problems and this gives me some time to watch for reviews and get into the swing of things anyway. Gotta read the ezine but if no massive new features are being touted loudly enough for me to see them here this is likely a stability oriented update and probably better than Everett for my needs anyway.

I shut me pie eater now.

Thanks though.

I did the Foxboro update. Some of the new Drum Replacer features do not work here.
I cannot switch the filter to "off" and I cannot drag the user trigger to ajust velocity.

Can somebody confirm this?

So, you should be able to turn the filter to the left-most position and it will change to "OFF."

Setting velocity only works on user hits. Click on the row below the orange hit markers. Should insert a new yellow one. Click that and drag up/down and the velocity should change. Release and drag left/right to reposition in time.

Just to make sure you're understanding how they're expected to work.

Thanks for your reply, Bill!

I read the instructions but it didn't work as it should.
-When I turn the filter knob left, it just shows 16Hz.
-I can create a user marker. When I click and drag on it, it disapears. Same with left and right mouse button

Maybe restart SONAR? DR here shows 33 Hz then OFF. No 16 Hz.

When you click on a user marker and drag left or right, the yellow rectangle disappears but the line indicating its position should remain. When you release the mouse button, the rectangle reappears.

If you click and drag up and down, the yellow marker remains but a velocity box appears to the right of it.

If DR isn't behaving this way, try restarting your computer. If the problem persists, try downloading the DR again. Or, take two aspirins, and call me in the morning...

Might be best if the DR issue gets discussed here rather than in the main thread:

How do I update offline? I'm ok with activating each month (i'm paying monthly) and this is my first month. But I'm unsure about updates, where do I download the update to install on my studio computer.

Update just like you originally installed. You only need the installers for the updated packages. See http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3247552 for the list.

Re: SONAR "Foxboro" update now available 2015/06/30 20:23:00 (permalink)
So far, it's not working.

After hours of updates, because this is a BIG one, it won't run.

I've had Sonar before the X versions, owned and ran X1, X2 & X3 PE versions, upgraded to Sonar Platinum, and have not had any problems until today. I feel something got missed before releasing Foxboro. I also upgraded to Z3TA+ 2 today, before the deadline on the upgrade sale.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, 16Gb, 3 fast HDDs, screaming fast Mushkin USB3 for page file. Sometimes I've started up Sonar without all of the other elements active, and after Sonar does it's start-up scan for components and VSTs I'd get a message saying whatever wasn't accessible. This may be where the current problems lie.

After the update I wanted to import some of the room settings, so I started up Sonar Platinum, the console came up, and it started scanning for VSTs, etc., the the BSOD appeared and my system rebooted. Admittedly, I had a few other apps open, including Excel. However, that never caused problems before.

The system rebooted, and before loading anything else (other than a few common start-up apps), I tried starting Sonar Platinum again. This time, it loaded the console view, started with the VST scans, and the system restarted without the BSOD this time.

I attempted to enter a tech support ticket, because it was just 5 minutes after tech support phone lines closed for the day. However, once I completed everything and went to submit it, I received this response saying the Cakewalk little place on the Internet was down. Big surprise, given the size of the updates. Why not have a dedicated server for tech support? Very, very annoying. It lost everything I'd typed in. tps://scontent-sjc2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/t31.0-8/11216607_10206979116415284_3279898904164965357_o.jpg
I feel Cakewalk botched the Foxboro release, and I can't imagine how many other people are going to have similar problems. Maybe they should have tested this a little more before release, because I can't even use Sonar at all right now.

Not good at all.

YES, and CCC definitely needs to NOT do a complete rescan after every component install.

I guess I was stupid to run CCC while Sonar was open. I got a message to the effect of 'Can't install while product is running'. So I closed Sonar. But too late apparently. My Sonar install is still at 21.4 build 30 (Everett), but Foxboro is gone from the CCC version list.

What now?

I cannot tell what state your C3 is in from the description provided. You may be able to reinstall or at least rollback and roll forward to Foxboro.

Foxboro includes Strum Session 2? And I just a few weeks ago paid for that upgrade. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I hope there are differences between the version I paid for and the one included in Foxboro.

Dean L. Surkin - Steinway A (1902, rebuilt 1988), Kawai MP8, Yamaha KX-76; Intel i7-4770K, 32GB, RME AIO; HP ZR30w (great monitor!); Sonar Platinum, Garritan JABB3 and GPO4, VB3
One day, when I have the time, I will learn how to use all the features of Cakewalk 2.0. Oh, wait, Sonar 8.5. What did you say? Sonar version what?

Strum Session 2 is not the same as Strum GS-2. You purchased the professional series product, not a Session series. I just checked the AAS site, there is no Strum Session 2 for sale yet.
