gswitz I like learning things- consider lots of Craig's FX chains! So useful and educational. I love that the Moneterizer FX chain was open to us. Really I don't understand much of what it is doing. Why delay both right and left channels equally? Why trim the highs? An A/B button that mutes output altogether? And it makes me want to tweak my own FX chain for this purpose which makes sense to me. Maybe I should do a "how it works" in the FX Chain descriptions instead of just saying how to use them...thanks for the idea! We'll see how people respond to the PX-64 techniques article. I think more techniques articles might be a good addition to the eZine.

Thanks Craig! I'd be psyched to read descriptions that explain the how and why.

Of the four DAW products on my computer that offered paid upgrades in 2015, Sonar was the only product that got selected to be upgraded. That was because Sonar offered the most bang for the buck and useful new features. I will admit that most of the new features that interested me were more of a "catch up" item than something brand new. The improvements to the Console View and the addition of Aux tracks are the first things that come to mind. My music production is taking a lesser priority for me lately after my lovely Mrs. Modisette was cured of Cancer and I realized how much time I had spent in my cocoon working on other people's music.
I will likely only upgrade one product in 2016 and Pro Tools isn't on that list again so I am interested in any kind of hints of what we can expect for this upcoming new year. I'm all about basic functionality because I have a fine collection of 3rd party plugs and I'm hoping some of my quick editing shortcut keys that I have posted might be on the todo list.

My previous version of Cakewalk software was Pro Audio v6.0 (1997 and a bit detached from the upgrade option). I am so glad that Cakewalk is still around and my spouse and I are enjoying coming up to speed on DAW technology and we feel that there is no better place to be than Sonar. We had comfortable experiences with Pro Audio in the 90s and we are finding Sonar very nice for us now, too. It's like coming home after all these years and many miles of travel. My spouse is very creative and Sonar fits her workflow for new music nicely (translate that to read that I do not have to intervene much). She composes in Finale, exports and drops the midi file into Sonar, and goes from there for enhancing the work. Thanks to the developers at Cakewalk and support staff for a very awesome product and synths.

2015 is another year in my studio where SONAR has been running more or less actively 2500+ hours. Performance optimizations. Aux tracks. Improved exporting. Improved Melodyne stability. Bonus sector: PNG track icons - finally!

Okay, that's my favorite update right there! Congrats on your new lease on life and all the best in the new year. As for Sonar, I'm quite happy with what has been brought to the table. Customizable console, Mix recall, Aux Tracks, Patch points, Region effects and performance enhancements are my favorites. Way to go Bakers! Congrats on a great year. Keep it up and give us some huge reasons to re-up in the new year. Rocky

Clearly an award goes to both the team and management of Sonar. So many companies who have a mature product just sit back and try to milk it, thereby leaving issues and unfinished business for longer term users to deal with themselves. But Cake in 2015, perhaps more than any other prior year, pushed forward relentlessly. Thank you cake. As for features and changes in 2015 - Stability, bug fixes and Aux tracks are top of my list. Thanks Cake!

Looking for over the list of updates, it's clear to me Cakewalk has done an outstanding job delivering with the "rapid incremental update" model that other vendors promise but fail to achieve. Adobe comes to mind and Propellerhead has not lived up to their promised more frequent delivery schedule. Very impressive both on the IT and product sides. Best of luck in 2016.

While there were numerous great features added, to me the improvements to the foundation of the program were the most important. The speed improvements, audio engine solidification, etc. Just being so robust and almost crash proof gets my vote. Everything else is just icing! Very good icing...

Well over the last 24hrs or so I have become rather partial to up sampling on playback, having been away since about Ipswich I have a lot of things to catch up on. I do wish however that I was writing that my favorite feature was an arranger track and something similar (very similar) to S13's scratch pads, there are a few others, but you never know maybe this time next year I will be able to fulfill my wish
