SSL Channel Strip and VC 64
Hi all. The VC 64 was a popular plugin that is no longer available. At least not to my knowledge. The Waves SSL Channel Strip seems to be very popular now and I've demoed one but haven't purchased. I don't care for the presets and am trying to match my favorite VC64 preset, the Master Mix. I'm curious if anyone has done a serious side-by-side comparison with the SSL and the VC64 and has gotten the settings on the SSL to match, or at least to sound close, to the Master Mix preset in the VC64 preset. Thanks in advance. DS

Never tried the SSL, but I believe the VC64 was no longer supported when the developer went inside.

If you have VC 64 from an older version of Sonar it works in Platinum...

The VC64 was based off of Kjaerhus' Golden Channel plug-in. If you get your hands on one (the company is longer around and the plug ins have become shareware/freeware) You might find similarity's in the 2 plug ins. I personally do use the SSL plug ins from Waves because they can dial in compression and frequency very nicely with an analog resemblance of the SSL. To be honesty, its no SSL but it does have harmonic overtones of one. My personal favorite is the SSL G bus compressor. It was the sole reason I bought the SSL 4000 bundle. My advise is, use the Adaptive limiter. Its very transparent and can handle a lot without hearing a huge change. Time to give up on the old plug ins my friend . But I know where your coming from. Im still worried about my trusty Sonitus bundle. Its only a matter of time before those are no longer supported.

Thanks for all of the replies. I still have a working VC 64 on an older version of SONAR but I rarely record on that one. I know it's a weird work-around, but I've taken a mixed song Wav and put it in the older SONAR and added the Master Mix in VC 64 and it has the same good effect as if I had recorded it in Sonar and mixed it there. It seems to do just as good and I can't tell any difference in quality. The VC 64 is a good example of something that was very good, but discontinued, and no one has picked it back up. As popular as it was, and with a ready marker, that's surprising.

I have a VX-64 in my Cakewalk Plugins folder. Is that different from the VC-64?

From what I can tell, it's different. I think the VX64 is primarily for vocals.

I think yu have misunderstood. That's the developer of the VC64 Kjaerhus. Whether it was dropped out of principle, by Cakewalk, or because he is no longer available isn't known. When this was discussed previously, a few posters have said they would prefer not to use the VC64 in light of the news.

Yes, who is the developer of the VC64. See Chckebaby's post #5
