Not a huge fan of vocaloid, but I love the instrumentation on Desert Nomad! Both mixes sound really great and you did a fantastic job. Regards, Dan

Hi Dan - Sincere thanks. The lovely (Vocaloid) Miriam has been on holiday for a while - I think she is avoiding me! (OK, the truth is that I have been unable to come up with any new lyrics!). Anyway, the 'voice' on Sacred Stone comes from Forest Kingdom 2. It's described as "ethereal", whatever that means! Why couldn't they just write "spooky"?!

Hi Marius - Only one?! Hopefully my net is big enough! And if one of those geese also happens to be passing, it should make my breakfast interesting - how DO you cook a gold egg?! Hi Shad - Sincere thanks and so very pleased you like these pieces.

malcolmb Hi Frank - Sincere thanks and so pleased you like these pieces and the video - the video took quite a while to create with my very basic software - photos are OK but one day I must get myself a proper video camera - and a helicopter and film crew! Good luck getting all that...

Hi John - Sincere thanks and so pleased you like these pieces (I thought this thread had disappeared into the misty twilight that awaits us all! Clearly the recent Solstice has given it new energy - I only wish it would do the same for me!).

Hi Malcolmb , Yes , things went Ok w my running around taking care of my bizznez this morning ... I just saw the video ...a real nice job you did I like the video better than the music by it self .... Yeah , definitely this composition comes off super creative w the music and photo's combined together ...very synergistic Malcolmb , are you also the photographer ? & video editor ?.... I ask because that is something I have been getting more involved in ...like you I'm on a tight budget I will say keep up the good work ...it is obvious that you have crested the learning curve combining your music w film .... Kenny

Hi Tim - Sincere thanks and so pleased the vibe I was trying to project does come through. I do tend to try and write peaceful music - at my age I can't cope with too much excitement (but I can dream!). Hi Kenny - Very many thanks. I am certainly no photographer - I just point the camera, press the button and hope! It's an odd thing on the net that many people won't listen to a piece of music unless it is presented in a video - not the case with this forum where music quality and production are paramount but very true of many other forums, social networking sites and so forth. So now we have to be composers, musicians, sound engineers AND video editors/directors! People don't ask for much, do they?! I probably spend as long, if not longer scouring the net for free photos and putting them together in a video (Windows Movie Maker and Photostage Slideshow Producer (both free!)) as I do writing the music! But to be fair, getting the synergy right between a video and the music can dramatically enhance the music - I don't always get it right! Oh, and of course, it does allow me to add the lyrics so that people can work out what my Vocaloids are really singing! Malcolm

What a nice way to start the morning. Very peaceful and natural music. Cool collection of sound textures arranged with nice progressions and melodies. Well done. Is the software easy to work with?

Hi Geno - Sincere thanks and so pleased you like these pieces. Forest Kingdom 2 itself has an excellent range of soundscapes and ethnic instruments and as VSTs created from real instrument samples, the percussion and wind instruments in particular are exceptionally realistic. But, as always, there is one problem - the GUI called Engine 2. Rather than filling pages here with detail, it is worth looking at this: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=369213&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 Engine 2 seems to be a development of the GUI in Yellow Tools Independence so you would think it would be OK. And on many computer systems it seems to work fine. Not mine! I have spent days adjusting buffers, latency etc to try and get some of the instruments to stop crashing my system. And while the Support people at Best Service who sell the software have been very helpful, there is still no solution to this problem. So, if you have a fast powerful system, fine. If you are like me and have a system that only just about copes with XP (!) (but is well within the spec for Forest Kingdom), then it might be worth waiting a bit until Best Service sort the problem out.

Hei Malcolm, Missed these pieces earlier. I enjoyed the listen. Both have an amazing depth --- maybe even too much, the drums are maybe a little too much forward (for my taste) - I don't know if that is the volumne or the lack of reverb. I would have liked the background chords to come out a bit more, but that's just my preference/opinion. I think particularly Sacred Stone would work great live as a festival intro - how's it going with that? Can you also tell more about the VST "Forest Kingdom" - you have a link for that?

Hi Steve - Sincere thanks and so pleased you like these pieces. Ah, the Drums! I do take your point. I tend to write much of my music for a free CD I hand out to friends on my little Isle every Yule. Their general comment is that the music is OK'ish (!) but they CAN'T HEAR THE DRUMS! So I do get a bit paranoid and push the drums too far forward in the mix! Perhaps I should find friends who have better hearing! Still waiting to hear from the Music Festival organisers as to whether they are happy to use Sacred Stone as the opening piece - the opening ceremony is likely to be televised on at least national TV, so I do hope so! Forest Kingdom 2 - the first link below details the content and the second link has some audio and video demos. The sounds are excellent and in my view well worth the money: http://www.soundsonline.com/Forest-Kingdom-2 http://www.bestservice.de/detail1.asp/best_service/forest_kingdom_ii/en#Video+Demos Malcolm

Hi Clint - Sincere thanks and so pleased you like these pieces. It always surprises me how much of the UK is still unspoilt countryside in spite of avaricious developers and the seemingly unstoppable tide of concrete. My little Isle off the South Coast of England is especially beautiful and seems to still be living in the 19th Century (and I hope it always will!). But if you do visit in the near future, make sure you bring lots of iced beer and a portable air conditioning unit - it is very, very hot here! Malcolm
