Sad Goodbye (new version 3.10.11)

A new song.... from the Upper Room Studio.

Sad Goodbye

I like to relax every now and then and do something just to play.

That's what this is.

Comments and crits welcome.

Nice Herb Nice, very pleasant good to hear a little chilled from your finger tips.

Little bit of noise at the end might need some attention

Really nice song, Herb!!  Well produced.   Nice change about 1:15 or so.   If I didn't know it was yours I wouldn't have guessed.  Seemed like the piano got a little louder at that change.  Could just be me.  Well played!  I didn't hear the noise Wookie was talking about.  He might have a better system.  Either way, nice job, buddy!

Wookie.... at the end, that noise is an instrument we use on this planet called a fiddle, some do perceive it to be noise.

There is some things in there that I hear, clicks or something very fleeting, that might be guitar noises, or maybe soundclick.... I just listened on my computer speakers from SC and I thought I heard noise in there but it's not on my IPod version. Might be the conversion on SC.... later tonight I'll likely be on the lappy so I'll have a go at it on SC from there.

Warren, yeah when the french horn and steel come in the piano gets a bump in volume. Very good ears .

I liked it Herb, but it's crying out for words really... The acoustic guitar in my right ear sounds a little thin, like your HPF is maybe a little too sever. Pretty song.

I like it a lot Herb, absolutely GREAT guitars.  When the bass first comes in it really boomed too high for my system, I had to turn my bass controls down a bit but after a minute it came back down nicely.  I also did NOT hear any noise at or near the end, all sounded great to me.  Very nicely played and mixed!!

I'm in a relaxed mood today (the spring starts to show over here) and this fitted my mood perfectly!

Vocals would be nice but this would work great as a soundtrack tune for a movie as it is!

Really enjoyed this one Herb. The stereo separation of all the guitars really gives this one space. I agree with robby that the right acoustic may be too much early on, but once the instrumentation comes in it fits nicely.

    Well done.

Man I wish I could make guitars sound like that. Especially the acoustic.

The piano is very nice too.

Bass seems a bit too boomy, not terrible though. Could use a bit more definition.

    Really enjoyed that Herb. Thanks.

Sounds great!  Really like the slide guitar and fiddle.  A cross between country and new age.  Piano is abit loud.  It needs to be more ambient.

A really great sounding piece Herb. I like the acoustic treatment on this a lot, gives an almost percussion instrument sound. I like piano timbre very much as well but a tad loud and dry. Overall a really great 3D sounding mix.

i thought i had left a comment on this one..im sorry,,great work as always..i really like the melodic guitar parts..you are by no means a guitarhacker.it almost reminds me of alice nchains(one of my favorite bands)like their mellow stuff...not that it sounds like their songs..its in the same wave...and i love that wave..and you acoustic guitar sounds premo..also a great mix..as far as anything id do better...i got nothing..sounds radio ready dude..id give it 7.5..almost an 8 out of 10 starz..its really relaxing..i know how cridical you are when reviewing other peoles songs in this forum,so when you listen to mine i was exspecting a load..you were very fair to me...im not being fair to you because you were to me...im being honest...great job..this one will go on my favorites list.

Chuck... thanks, I try to be nice, I try to be encouraging, especially to the new people and people I don't know well.

To people I do know, who I know are trying to achieve a better mix, a better song, I don't believe blowing smoke at them telling them hey that's a great song, will help them improve. I also don't wish to come off like  the back side of a horse. I try to give truth & honesty, tactfully, from my limited perspective.

If I have something critical/important  to say,  I will PM, and there are a few here that can testify to that.

    Re:Sad Goodbye ( new version 3-10-11) 2011/03/10 10:36:18 (permalink)
OK.... I have a new version up...with a few tweeks.    Here

    The tweeks:

I rounded off the highs and enveloped a few of the louder passages on the fingerpicked guitar

Lowered the bass a few db.

removed by envelope the 2 acoustics where the french horn comes in, and left the FP AG out for the rest of the song. I think the song sounds cleaner w/o it.

at the end of the french horn, just a stumming AG comes back in more to the center.

edited the last clean guitar solo to remove a click in one of the notes.

edited the guitars up front to remove clicks and other noise from the guitars.

edited the piano part at the end.

Beagle: I'm on guitars, I also played the french horn part which started as a string part but I didn't like the strings. I also played/edited the piano parts quite a bit.... the starting point on them was very midi and stiff sounding. I used staff view quite a bit to edit the track in midi.
