Sample Tank 2 for $40 US
I'm not recommending the product, but this is definitely a huge reduction in cost. Anyone know if this product is any good?--sure has a huge sample library it comes with. http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/sampletank/

You won't find more usable sounds anywhere else for forty bucks. Big library. Lots of klunkers in there but enough gems to make it worthwhile. 32-bit but should bridge OK.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

I only have the free version of ST, but do have almost all the other synths. ST is pretty good when you layer the sounds and add some (included) fx. The sounds just need a little "massaging" to sit well in a track bed. The sounds are old, but are very use-able for rock, jazz, blues, funk, hip-hop, techno etc.... Hope your eyesight is really good as the gui has really tiny text, but the good thing is all the synth libraries for Miroslav, Sonik Synth, Sample Moog, Sample Tron etc...can be loaded into Sample Tank. Of course, we're all waiting for Sample Tank 3 as the current version hasn't had any updates (I think) since 2010, but it's supposed to be released this year??? Best is to try out the free version of ST and see if it's worth getting the full version.

It's all about the sound libraries, really. I got the free version years ago, and liked it. I sprung for the 2.5XL in a group buy a while back. No regrets. Yeah, as Bit noted, there are a few klunkers, but for the most part it is very usable, and it responds nicely to controller input. The default colors make me feel like my eyes are bleeding, so I changed that to something much more comfortable.

Yeah, it is amazing how well the patches fit in a mix. The GUI is a disaster but if you can get past it you will be pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, I agree about the GUI. I changed the color to a shade of green that is probably uglier but it is easier to read. I had to jump on the eSoundz deal and pick up a couple of add-on packs with it. I had already purchased Sonik Synth 2 and Sample Moog with similar deals, so I have a few of the add-on packs as well. Pretty good stuff that does fit into a mix pretty well. Looking forward to SampleTank 3... if and when...

The esoundz deal sounds particularly good - never bought VST's on line before - are they a good company to deal with? ARe the World Music soundsets good does anyone know? Also I am in UK - are there any exchange charges or will I get the standard exchange rate which would work out at around £30 I think Cheers Joe G

Yeah, esoundz is ok. Can't speak to non-US issues though except I do not believe that sampleTank is a download so that might factor into your decision.

Sure he can. If you buy ST3 I would imagine the updates would be free maybe even freer for loyal customers.

My mistake, it is a download. The eSoundz site makes it very clear, I don't know what I was thinking. Sorry for the confusion. From their website: NOTE: This product requires a serial number which is manually released into your esoundz download area once your order is reviewed and confirmed. That serial number will then be registered with the IK Multimedia Authorization Manager. The Authorization Manager can be found at www.ikmultimedia.com under the Support tab. Once registered you will then be able to download SampleTank from "my products" section your IK user area.

My most important wish list is 64 bit and better GUI. I had tried the free sample tank. Works with my X2. Will there be additional sounds in version 3?

My opinion only, This is a hell of a good deal if you don't already have it. The individual samples are a bit under the wire frequency spectrum-wise if you compare to some of the Kontakt and third party libraries. The interface is way like the SampleLord sampler. Clean, efficient, simple. What is missing in Sonar via stacking synths is easily done in Sampletank by layering several samples, setting the volume and pan appropriate. Can use SampleTank alone as one vsti instance and rival anything from any thousand dollar library with thoughtful programming.. Old technology, but it is really that good if you dive into it. John

The GUI needs a Major overhaul, I can't see it. Sounds are usable in a mix. Nothing special but worth $40. My beef is that you only have thirty days to download the sounds or you have to pay to re-download them. There is nothing about this, expiration and additional cost, mentioned until After you buy. I can re-download everything in my IK account except these sounds. Why? Obi, can you answer the Why part? Kind regards, Rick
