SampleSort Application

Hi All,

Just thought I'd mention an application that I'm working on for helping people find their samples.  It's still in beta but really would appreciated feedback and input for new features and wotnot.

Read More & Download

Cheers,

Looks like a helpful app, and the interface has some cool colors! But is it only for Battery 3? There's a logo at the bottom-left of the page for Battery 3, but no mention of other VST instruments.

Hi Chap,

It just exports drum kits to Battery format (which is little more than an XML file anyway) but it's just for finding audio files and wotnot, it's not tied to any other application.

It's not really anything to do with VST either, it's just a database app for all your samples.

Hope you find the time to have a play with it.

Cheers,

I've downloaded this app and looks as though it could be something good. Just wish there was a way to scan one drive only as I would be there all day adding directories to exclude.

Thanks Bitflipper ... any feedback you have will be really appreciated.  I'm thinking of doing a lot more work on it in terms of integration with SONAR specifically.  I want to implement ReWire as well ...

Anyway, let me know how you get on with it.

Much appreciated.

Just go to the Browser view right click on the drive you want to scan and then click Scan in the context menu ...

Just to let you all know, one of the main features that I want to implement is that users should be able to configure the categories and wotnot.  This is potentially a lot of work but I think it's an absolutely crucial feature.  Needs some planning however ... :)

It's good you have an exclusion list for directories to scan, but I suspect for most users an inclusion list might be more convenient. All my libraries are under just 3 top-level directories, but they are on 3 different disk drives.

Well the scanning thing worked and I've sent another e-mail off to support but I will repost here just in case anyone else is wondering the same thing as me:-

Thanks for getting back to me. It seems to have worked and all my samples have been scanned. There is one problem with the search though in that it is context sensitive, for example if I type in "bell" it will pull out all files containing "bell" but not the ones containing "Bell".

"Problem" may be too strong a word looking back, maybe its more of a feature request as I use another sample tagger program and it can be changed from being case sensitive to not.

I am waiting for the next release as the only way I can make a full search is by putting the word in both search fields, one with an upper case and one with a lower case start. Apart from that it's not a bad start and looks very promising, it is a bit flaky sometimes on windows 7 - 64 bit but if findjammer pulls off the search issue then I can live with it.

Hi Findjammer. Congratulations on your app. Nice GUI too.

But I must admit that seeing it is bittersweet, because I think I will now abandon my Loop Librarian project.

Re:SampleSort Application 2010/11/15 19:42:58 (permalink)
findjammer - Thanks for asking. I've been fiddling around with my LoopLibrarian project for about 5 years and I use it constantly. Others have suggested that I turn it into a product I can sell and I spent a lot of time this year preparing for that.

It resembles a Windows Explorer View, but it provides full control over the data in the file view, such as sample rate, bit depth, duration, BPM, pitch, etc, and can sort by any of those columns. It performs bit depth conversions with dither, sample rate conversions, and manages ACID properties (I managed to reverse-engineer the ACID chunk). It supports and converts WAV, MP3, OGG, AIF, FLAC, WMA, etc. It also shows MIDI details for each channel, and manages MP3 and manages metadata on audio files.

I just finished support for drag and drop to and from the program (had to learn to use COM objects), and a new on-screen keyboard that helps with setting the pitch when acidizing files. It outputs MIDI to any device, or uses soundfonts. I'm still working on some ASIO issues.

So it tries to do a lot, but it becomes a bit disheartening when seeing other products that do much more, and have cool interfaces for so little money. So it will probably continue to be a hobby. Fortunately, I make a living developing other software.

But again, congratulations to you on your samplesort project, and good luck.

Hello Again,

Was just getting in touch to let you know that I've started work on the next version, the text search fix you wanted was the first new feature I've added.  Will be working on it some more prior to release.  Will keep you posted.

I'm also interested in the other problems you've encountered.  I'm developing on Win 7 64 bit now and it stable on my dev box.  If you do have the time it would be really interesting to know some more about the problems you've had.

Also, if you look here:

C:\ProgramData\JamSoft\SampleSort\Config

You'll find a samplesort.log file.  I'd be really interesting in getting a copy of yours after a crash or problem so I can investigate further.

Regards,

Jammer

Crashed on first launch.  But, then I tried again and it worked.  Took me a while to find the "scan" button.  Finally tried "right click" on mouse while over the drive in Browser mode.  Scanning now.  Will report back when more info is available.

Tried to build a database with this, but just pointed it toward a directory with wave loops.  It scanned, but then nothing shows up.  Can't see how to use this.  Is there a manual?

[Edit:  Found the Help files in the program x86 folder.  Got it working.  Will try building a bigger database and report back''

Got it working.  It does what it says.  It is like a more detailed version of the Browser in X3; it has about 30+ database fields.  This makes it fairly precise in its search engine, but it only can search what is already properly labelled.  For example, the word snare must be in the title for it to search for a snare.  Like the X3 Browser, once you find the loop you want, you can just drag it into X3.  It does just about every audio file format around (way too many to list) like wave, mp3, rex, but I was surprised that it does not do .sfz.  Oh, yes it does .mid files as well.

No sure if it will replace X3 Browser for me, but it might be useful as a more detailed search engine and database for organizing and finding most of your audio samples.  I will keep it for now.

Bitdefender (not to be confused with Bitflipper) does not like your site...

That keeps me away....

That is odd ... never seen that and no-one has ever reported that in 7 years ...
