TRS is Tip Ring Shield. That a cable with 1/4" phone plugs on each end. TRS plugs have 2 plastic rings around the plug, one for the signal to the tip of the plug and one for the signal to the ring. Its basically a stereo cable, but when used in a TRS jack its called a balanced cable and it provides a higher quality signal than an unbalanced cable which has mono phone plugs on each end.
