I wonder if that's too long for my signature.
Now that was funny. Again I find myself looking for the 'like' button. It truly was a bizarre outburst.

Well, well, well! I see this has turned into a bit of an epic! I had no idea there would be this many posts by the time I checked back...

mike_mccue - I understand what you mean about tweaking a PC for music (been there, done that, many times), and I will no doubt need a bit of a refresher on doing so, especially as I haven't done it with Windows 7 before. On the PC subject, I did think about a totally custom music PC, but it seemed like going too far too soon, as I wanted to see how things with X1 worked out first before spending the kind of money I normally would normally spend on a Mac on a full-blown dedicated music PC.

ebabes13, M @ B, John & codamedia - Thanks for the welcomes!

subtlearts - It's all good experience and it's really been a way of being introduced to everyone! I'm just sorry I missed lunch...

"To hit someone with its "dumbed down" or "off the shelf computer" in answer to the topic is a serious breach of common courtesy. It needs to stop. Why they feel compelled to post this stuff is something only their therapist can know."

John, I know you think you are smart and all that but you should probably figure out that the OP never posed a question. The OP was a synopsis and commentary on a product that apparently has yet to actually be experienced first hand by the author. So, in fact... my comments can hardly be called an answer.

The suggestion that I have/need a therapist is just typical of your methodology of attempting to goad someone into reducing themselves to your level of incoherence.

I will readily admit that I can reflect an impression of rudeness back upon someone as hostile as yourself.

So here goes:

I feel that your trademark "who me?" method of acting like a boorish thug is repulsive. I also feel that you think you are getting away with it. It seems as if you have no interest in realizing how callous and inconsiderate you routinely act. You are not going to upset me and get me to make statements that I will regret. Over the past years I have repeatedly observed that this is your favorite technique of disagreement.  I will simply explain that I have, for many years, found you to be consistently rude and trollish. Your repeated implications that people that do not share your opinions do not belong at this forum are intolerable and so I will, within the confines of the TOS express my opinion that you are, in my personal opinion, absolutely the rudest person I have ever encountered here at this forum. I expect that you are familiar with the fact that I have in the past lent you my support against some of your most emotionally charged critics. You have successfully goaded many people into seeming incredibly rude and reacting poorly. My estimation that you surpass anyone who I have witnessed to date is a very high standard to have achieved.

Good day to you sir.

regards,
mike

PS a quick note of reminder to the mods when John reports me... the above is a direct response to John's suggestion that I have/need a therapist. My threapist told me I don't have to accept that sort of criticism form a guy like John. ;-)

Wow and I thought we were friends.

Anything else you may have found that you dislike about me? Lets get it all out. Good therapy, you know.

BTW I don't recall you defending me or for that matter anyone else ever. But if you did I thank you for that even if you didn't believe in it.

No comment otherwise.

Best
John

Welcome to the forum Collandra!

Can't say I have been working with DAWs as many years as you do, or with as many as you have but throughout the years I have come to test DAWs like Cubase, FL Studio, Live, Reaper, Reason (ermm if it can be called a DAW lol) and lately S1.

I fell in love with Sonar right from the start - it was so "logical" to me, my way of thinking and my way of working. And I really couldnt get it when people thought it was an unintuitive program - as it was the most flexible program in my eyes. Through the years, the competition evolved, I have witnessed many features that I would kill for Sonar to have, but the truth remains, in my opinion, it still beats the competition.

The truth is, the old users complain about lost flexibility on certain aspects of the program - only visible to those who knew how the program worked.
Case in point: the tiny litle buttons
they were there, in all their cluttering glory, but you COULD easily hide them all, and leave the program with only a few that you find useful. To say the truth, I never liked em aynways, but the option of having them was crucial as it seems for other users. If you ask me, give me keybindings and take away all the buttons see if I care - but thats only me. The thing is, Sonar pre-x1 was serving good both schools of working: mouse travellers and key hitters (my own terms ;)

What happens now is, imagine if I get X1. I have Sonar customised with a bare minimum of those litle buttons that X1 took away. So, this doesnt affect me - it affects however 10 - or 100 or 1000 if you will - other users who were indeed using them. I think it would be rude of me to go out and say: who gives a pluck, I was never using them buttons ayways.

Thats an example so that you can understand why it can get heated since X1's release in here!

I have to say I have not yet moved on to X1 - I am patiently waiting for a demo to try it out, so I cant have an opinion on the over all "feel" of the program. I do like what I have seen so far (notice the verb "seen") but thats miles away from working with it.

In any case, welcome and I hope X1 exceeds your initial expectations.

Greetings and enjoy your stay! ;)

Welcome, Collandra. I hope you get real sastisfaction from SONAR X1.

Wow, I just don't know what to say. That post by Mike concerning John was staggering, but provoked and seemingly in retaliation to John's therapist remark.

I have to say, from my time here reading posts, that Mike McCrue is a SONAR POWER USER, knowledgeable in music production and related areas, a very intelligent human being, and decorous in manners.

However, it appears he just doesn't like the SONAR new GUI which is X1. But, on the good side, Mike is very helpful here and a great contributor to these forums. I was contentious with him once because we had differences of opinions about my manner of communicating harshly to one user here, once. I opoligized to Mike for that. Mike is a great asset to these forums and I would be pleased if he continued contributing music production related help and information and other good info.

Also, John has been very helpful to many users in these forums.

I wish we all could get along, but it just seems to be something so hard to do all the time.

Here's wishing us all the best experience with X1. :)

Welcome aboard Collandra,

and you can see what a can 'o worms X1 be.

What I'd like to point out is that the new interface got the OP interested in the program.  That is something a lot of us long time users poo-pooed, and something I didn't really think about one way or the other (despite Cake's protest that it was a reason).  I guess those marketeers we always second guess actually were on to something.  Although one example doesn't proove a point, I still think it is interesting.

All right, boys, back to your regularly scheduled firefight.

thegeek & thomasabarnes - Thanks for the welcome!

I have to say that it's a great attitude here, even when things do get a little heated! As I said earlier, I'll be picking up X1 very soon as well as attending a music show next month where I'll be able to get my hands on the brand new Roland Jupiter-80 as well as the new UA-55 Quad-Capture audio interface, which I'm really looking forward to having a play with.

I chose Sonar way back in the day too, because it just "made sense" to me.   X1 certainly a bit less so.   Although when I try other DAW's they just never feel right.   If the bakers bring back some of the customisablity that we used to have, and mix a couple of things we should good to go.   So as of right now I'm still in the 8.53 is the best version out there.

That all being said, I agree that a "I'm moving to X1" thread.  Isn't the best place to go over these arguments again.  I'm of course happy to debate in a new thread.

Also welcome

Stop the personal attacks and pointless bickering (you know who you are). This is not acceptable. If y ou have an issue with SONAR then start a thread for it, don't hijack someone else's thread and make it your own personal complaint session.

Stay on topic.

If you guys continue to go back and forth at each other like this then you'll be on the sidelines for a while.
