To who does this question refer?

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

Forgive him he comes from round these parts and we say 'should have' normally.

Should of, is just a little bit wronger and I could care less personalliry, it's mattering littler to worry too much about than for any other reason.

Funny how little quirks can bother one...

I cringe when someone answers, " do you mind if I...?" with, "sure, go ahead".
Is it they do mind but go ahead or that they don't mind?

    Should've  =
So 've = of ?  - to some I rekon so.

That was the first thing that caught my eye when I started to visit this forum. I found it really strange, because it often changes the whole meaning.

As a non-native english speaker those "should of"-things sometimes drop me off the carriage totally.

In general: It's surely encouraging for some people who are shy of what they consider their poor knowledge of a foreign language to see that not all native speakers are great oracles or writers either.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.
The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Yeah, me too. The other one I hate is when people go into some kind of service establishment (bar/shop/cafe etc) and ask ....

    can I get a beer/pack of cigarettes/coffee ?

    Grrrrrrrrr !

If I was serving them I'd have to say...NO, but if you ask me properly I'll get one for you.

AS a grammar nazi, I see two problems with that... "Can I..?" and "Get". It is "May I", and "(please) Have".

And "Your"/"You're" is a pet peve of mine. It drives me a bit nuts, but not as nuts as people who use letters for words like "y r u goin home 4".... the horror, the horror.

And don't get me started on 'loose' instead of 'lose'.

I suppose someone should point out that grammar is not there for it's (  ) own sake, but to foster communication.

So it doesn't make to ( ) much sense to me to get more than a little upset over situations where the meaning is clear even if the grammar is incorrect.

Minor frustration is one thing, but there are more important things in the world to get really upset about.
