my goodness.. You would switch daws because of THAT? Wowowow!
i never knew anyone who thought to changed their host so they could sidechain renaissance compressor. LOL. It's an "ok" compressor, yes it has stood the test of time well enough.. I guess you aren't using sonar producer? Because it doesn't say which version you use, and I guarantee you the plugins that come with sonar are on par and do allow sidechaining, however the pro channel stuff is way BETTER and of course allows sidechainining. Regardless there is nothing the waves can do that the sonitus comp and even some freeware doesn't.. And they are vst2 with sidechain inputs. Cakewalk have much to answer for with x2, I'm a new user and experiencing lots of stability issues, but this one is waves' fault for refusing to allow their vst2 versions of their plugins to have a sidechain input. Yes, if cakewalk support vst3 in the future it will be great, but more hosts do not support it rather than do. In fact only fl studio, cubendo, and studio one support Vst3 Afaik. Anyway, there are plenty of vst2 alternatives that do have their sidechain inputs available and will work just fine with sonar, as sonar correctly allows vst2 sidechain.. Something that even cubase never offered prior to vst3 without ghastly workarounds! Steinberg just wanted an excuse to change a perfectly good standard again..
if you are dead set on leaving sonar, ok your call, but if you are open to hearing alternatives to waves that DO allow sidechain in sonar, then just ask and I and I am sure others will help. Ps I must admit for the sake of waves mercury owners, it would be nice if cake did support vst3 so one could vocal rider and some other cool plugins properly, but really I still blame waves first and foremost.
