That's depressingly well done. I heard a 'new' country song recently (female singer, can't remember who) that had the exact melody from a Lonestar tune my wife likes.

WOW!!!! Prob'ly the BESSSTTESSST C&W song I'VE EVVVVVA heard - - HaNdS dOwN! C&W is notorious for this sort of thing and has been from the beginning. Just another clue as to why I could never really take it seriously. And for some reason that crowd isn't as sue happy as other genres. AND the BEST part. --->>> This is what DAWs are all about. Who could have ever thunk to do this without one.

These guys are a nice antidote to all that stuff, although they have a definite Eagles vibe;

The CHB tried that mash-up trick in THIS SONG (at the end of the song) but not quite as successful.

I confess..I once went to a nickelback concert as part of the dreaded human tradition of "taking one for the team" aka guys sometimes put themselves through the unthinkable to get laid. Honestly, they put on a decent show, but it did not make me want to hear there music anymore. It was the pop rock equiv of hearing a 12 bar blues jam session where it is basically the same song going for a couple of hours. The energy of the rabid fans and the instant familiarity with each song due to it sounding like the last kinda works live but is brutal to listen to via album.

There is a long thread over on keyboard central on this mash up, and most of the comments on the current state of "country" music are right on the mark. the real sad issue are the comments on the youtube page from the redditors who think they know everything about music and cant see beyond their myopic generation and arse.

This is why I no longer listen to 'country' music, but instead listen to bluegrass. While there will always be similarities in music (after all there is only so much you can do with a limited number of notes - this is math after all) there is something that is just too much of an 'algorithm' to a lot of music today. There was some discussion a while ago about how the money behind the music now use software to analyze music to see if it has the 'components' to be a hit song. No wonder everything sounds the same. Another reason to like the old days, where each town had its own DJ, who selected the songs that were played for that station, and a small band could come in to the station and might just get a break and have their record played. Lots of good and different stuff was found that way.

Thanks for the Landreth Brothers tip, James. Good to see that a favorite genre may outlive the Eagles, CSNY, Jackson Browne, et al.

I try to make it a habit to revisit my thoughts after intial reaction so i listened to this again. Honestly, it just shows something I already knew from years of djing and remixing ; you can mash up just about any western hemisphere music that is in 4/4 ( or easily made to sound like 4/4) and it will likely work. If the songs happen to be in the same key and genre it is even easier. The whole concept behind dj mixes is somewhat based on this. How hard would it be to do the exact same thing with six Metal songs, or six hip-hop songs or even six zydeco songs? Nickelback gets a bad rep for churning out songs that all sound alike, but i sometimes wonder if they are any more guilty than pop in general. The same holds true for these guys. It's not like classic country is known for its breadth of topics either. Every episode of Hee Haw seemed like one episode on repeat.
