The Windows 10 update also turns your internal soundcard back on!!!! Dis-able that and dis-able the HD Audio Controller in the device manager and you should see some improvement. My latency and load times have substantially decreased!

As someone said, any apparent slowness to boot etc, will/should disappear after a little while, and then you should be booting, shutting down etc faster than ever. Your 'accidental' installation of Windows 10 should turn out to be a serendipitous little accident, as from my point of view Windows 10 is leaps and bounds ahead of Windows 7 (and even more from Windows 8 from what I have heard, I skipped 8), I hope it turns out that way for you, as I find Windows 10 to be by far the best Windows yet.

Re Slow: On my system, Win10 re-enabled indexing on all my drives, including the SSD used for samples. This is especially irritating since I had it off. I observed a 10x load time for EWQL HO projects. Additionally, it takes forever to turn indexing back off, as Win10 visits every file. I would start with checking that.

Thanks for that tip, Sidroe. It probably would have taken me months to notice that, since I have no speakers connected to my integrated audio interface. I also noticed it reset all my auto-play options. AllanH Re Slow: On my system, Win10 re-enabled indexing on all my drives, including the SSD used for samples. Sure enough, the indexing service was turned back on, and it was indexing frickin' WAVE files. 30 seconds now to open the project that had been taking several minutes.

bitflipper Hmm, wouldn't it be great if my Tranzport started working again? Just dreaming.
Hi Dave- My Tranzport works fine under Win 10, so don't lost heart. I had to install the drivers using a compatibility mode, but I can't remember which right now. Maybe XP? -Susan

Thanks, Susan. A few others have also reported that they continue to use the Tranzport, but I could not get it to run under 8.1 no matter what I tried (including XP-compatibility mode). It even crashed my system, so I had to unplug it. But it's a new day, and I do plan to try it one more time now that I'm running a new O/S.

Windows started pushing their Win 10 Threshold 2 this week, esp if you are a Windows Insider. It is a major update for Win. It is basically reinstalling it on your machine if you already had it. The good news is it gives you much more control over updates... the bad news is that since Win 10 is a "service" and not a product, you can only put off the updates and upgrades only for so long before it will cease to function... that's how they get around the pirating etc... http://www.windowscentral.com/whats-new-windows-10-fall-update to read about the changes and improvements... and you can 'Run... winver' to check to see if you have the Version 1511, but if your computer loaded up the 3Gb file and then acted like it was upgrading Windows again this week, then you prob have it. I've noticed speed improvements but also noticed issues with the computer signature... had to re-license AD2 and a couple of other items.

carl Kontakt libs are very quick to load. Play libs still on the slow side.
I did notice the other day that Windows Defender real time protection is always 'ON' when launching, doesn't maintain the selected off state as it did before. I always turn it off, several times now I've heard an audible click through my soundcard. This has never happened to me before in any previous version of Windows.
try adding exceptions for your DAW and audio control software to Windows Defender.

That is the latest version. The build should read 10586. To find this go to settings/system and about.

scook try adding exceptions for your DAW and audio control software to Windows Defender.
Steve, I can't find a place to do that. I go to control panel -> system and security -> security and maintenance, and I see "Windows Defender is helping to protect your PC" - but no "change settings" option like there is for UAC and SmartScreen. I click on "change security and maintenance settings" and all I get are checkboxes to enable system messages. I'm pretty sure I previously had antivirus exceptions for SONAR, VSTs and sample libraries under 8.1, and I'm positive I had them when I was on XP. Maybe this is a "Home" limitation? [EDIT] Never mind, I found it. Had to go through the Settings tile on the Start menu rather than Control Panel (old habits die hard). I added exclusions for my sample library folder as well as \program files\cakewalk, sonarpdr.exe, and a general exclusion for wave files.

I have no problems with MIxbus 2.5 or 3.0. I wasn't having any problems this morning with Sonar. The second time I tried Win 10 I had problems with the Windows firewall blocking my Presonus 44VSL. Windows 10 doesn't like me.

Nope. This has happened twice now with Windows 10. I believe it's a problem with the Presonus. I could be wrong, but I don't believe it's Sonar and I don't believe it's Windows 10. I'm rolling back to Windows 7 as I type. I think I'll need another soundcard if I want to make the switch to 10. I'll probably stay with my current version of Sonar too, unless they continue to support 7 for awhile. My Presonus 44VSL has been discontinued. The newest driver (which is supposed to be Windows 10 compatible) came out in July of 2014. I'll have to think about my next move. There will always be new stuff coming out. I may wait and try to get something good. I'm interested in the Harrison Control Surface and what it may be able to do.

Well it did it to me to. Stopped me from procrastinating further but it was a bit rude to say the least. All the hardware, Quad Capture, A800 Pro and AKAI LPK25 seems to be working fine. As is the old Roland XP10 that serves as a second keyboard via the Quad captures MIDI port. I tried a few recent projects, only issue so far relates to the e Licenser dongle for my XILS4 VSTi That need attention when I have a moment. I don’t like the way it’s changed several default applications. I get the horrible Windows PDF reader instead of acrobat for example, so I think there will be a bit of changing things needed. Of course Classic Shell was uninstalled but I probably don't need it any more.
