So Long, UK, We'll Miss Ya
So I wake up this morning to the big news out of the UK...really didn't see that coming. Not sure what impact it'll have here in the U.S. - could be good for us when the pound tanks.

The pound will rally. Glad we're getting our country back, and won't be dictated to by faceless overpaid Eurocrats who we didn't elect and couldn't get rid of. Of course, it'll likely take years and they'll give us a good kicking on the way out to try and dissuade other countries from doing the same. IBTL...

Well, our stock market didn't fall very fall (yet), but simply lost most of the gains that came from last week when it looked like Britain (or should I say England) was going to stay. I've got a check due in Pounds soon, so that sux, but it is only a small one. Maybe by the time it is writ the Pound will be back up.

And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

U.S. stocks plunged at the open on Friday, with the Dow Jones average falling more than 500 points, after Britain's vote to quit the European Union delivered the biggest blow to the global financial system since the 2008 financial crisis. Investors worried about the outlook for the world economy sought refuge in the dollar and other safe-harbor assets such as gold and U.S. Treasury bonds, while dumping riskier shares. The yield on the U.S. 10-year bond hit its lowest since 2012. http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-stocks-idUSKCN0Z918E

I genuinely believe the UK - or any country - will do better without a large regulatory body full of faceless bureaucrats and career politicians who have the power to shape the fortunes of businesses they don't really understand (because most of them left college and went straight into politics). It was the EU which claimed that Microsoft was being "unfair" by bundling its own browser with Windows. That to me summed up the way in which these bureaucrats perceive economic freedom - they don't believe in it. And of course they responded to Brexit with the usual scaremongering and threats - if you leave the EU, we'll impose tariffs and restrict trade with you. In reality, once the hoo-haw has died down, they won't do anything to penalize their own countries by restricting trade with the UK. You don't need a monster like the EU for free trade.

I hesitated starting this thread because technically it involves politics, and we try to stay away from incendiary topics here. But this is far more than politics, it's a cultural and economic upheaval the likes of which the UK has not seen since WWII. And it'll affect all of us no matter where we are in the world. And frankly, my first thought after reading the headline was "some plugins are gonna be cheaper now".

Hi, This has got to be one of the most mis-guided things EVER. In a world, where everything is becoming a "world economy", someone decides to leave, because they did not create it, or invent it, and they did not like being subordinate to other countries and economies, in order to share all the goods. As is usually the case, the British invented "progressive music" and Europe is just a bunch of peons, that must be taken advantage of in commercial terms, instead of sharing the profits to ensure everyone benefits! How much you want to bet that this will hurt artists and musicians the most? You just wait!
Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

Haven't thought about it yet. But I don't see Portugal, England and a couple of others getting any further. And I bet the Wales dream, will come crashing quickly. I don't know, but of all the games I have seen, I can not say with any authority that any team looks better than the rest. I kinda think that things have leveled off so much over there, that I think a new team/country will finish on top ... and I think that is a good thing. I'm kinda tired of the 2 teams dominating Europe and thinking they are the best in the world, and England thinking that it is better than the Euro, and the continent. On the other side of the big pond, Argentina did bring its AAAAAAAAA game and the US forgot how to pass the ball in the process! And I think that Colombia will win 0-2 again, and JK will probably quit in frustration and go coach Southhampton somewhere over there in England where he can cash in and get fired in 3 years when his team gets relegated!

I'll tell you what scares me more than anything about all this. A few years back, the Portuguese Government, FINALLY, after 32 or 33 years of deliberation, decided that they wanted my father's remains to be taken to Portugal and be buried as an important servant of the country for his literary work. Mom, of course, had been trying this forever since he died in 1978. So, in one of the public bulletin boards, there were a couple of folks complaining that the government was spending money when it could be feeding its people and creating jobs instead. I made the comment that the country with no soul and spirit, that could not appreciate the vital and valuable inspiration of all the arts, is the country that loses its soul and dies. Food or not. Food for the soul is more important in the end, so you do not die inside. I can not help feel the same about that thing over there. The idea might be fine, but the whole concept is plain wrong, and at a time when everyone is on edge, and making a false move, is dangerous. I'm expecting England to have a serious depression, because no one in Europe will spend the money to buy the English goods that will be over priced ... and this will hurt the artists and musicians the most ... no band will perform in Europe, because no one can afford it, and the value of the price is out of kilter with reality. The media is insane in this, and mis-guided. And it feels like this is just another get rich scheme by some Lords ensuring that they make even more, than anything else. They get the benefits for it all ... you and I don't!

I'll tell you who I don't want to benefit, and that's the 10,000 un-elected gravy-train beaurocrats, all of whom earn more than our own Prime Minister, and who's wages we paid, whether we wanted to or not. Now, we don't have to.

Good for them! If you know about the so-called New World Order or UN Agenda 21, they want no borders and one currency so they can basically rule the world. They've actually managed to get the world into four parts fairly quietly so this may set them back a bit. I still say that Steve is for a Royalty Free Europe.

Interesting. I didn't see this coming as usually the Brits don't leave other places voluntarily. But y'all are welcome to help us celebrate our voting you guys out of the U.S. in 1776 in a few weeks.
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

Scotland is pissed because they voted to stay. They will push for independence once again so they can remain in the E.U. Financial markets around the world are in havoc and the British pound is down 8% overnight. I read that Brexit has cost the U.K. 164 billion US dollars so far. I wonder how this will shake out over the next two years. Rocky
