"Killing Hitler: the plots, the assassins, and the dictator who cheated death" or "Sailing for Dummies."

Is it just me or do these titles seem strangely connected?

I just finished "Cider With Roadies," by Stuart Marconie.

Must get that, I like Maconie's sense of humour.

Cider With Roadies was a good read.  We're both from the same town, so I caught a lot of the local references.  Plus, it reminded me how much I liked Slade...

Beagle,
I read the Nine Princes in Amber and some of the follow-ons  ... But I only recall there being only like 5 books.
I have really liked all of Douglas Adams books and am particularly fond of the Dirk Gently's, but they were quite hard to follow the first time around... Similarly, I also loved reading the Tolkien books.

Love that book! I read it in 8th grade and it had a big affect on me.

I also forgot to add.
In the last year I also read the Millennium Trilogy by Steig Laarson.

I'm very interested to see how the US movie version of the Millennium Trilogy will be. The original is (mostly) so darn good, and Noomi Rapace is so convincing and visually stunning in the leading role, that to me most any new interpretation will surely be just a cheap copy - or... we'll see...

Looking from this side of the pond the Hollywood versions of european films usually lose (intentionally, of course)
the character and edge when tuned to please bigger audiences. They do include more digital FX and explosions, though. The Hollywood philosophy of  casting also very often means uninteresting prettyface actors  lacking human characteristics, but not always, glad to admit.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Kalle,

I watched the original Millenium Trilogy movies.

I'm not interested in the Hollywood versions for exactly the reason you specified.

I agree.  Very few Hollywood remakes even approach the quality of the original in terms of story and character.  Insomnia is one of the few that even comes close.  It's not quite as good as the original, but it does come close in its own way.  Any others?

There are so many versions of that story that it's difficult to figure out which is the original.  Earliest one I can think of is "A Night To Remember" US (1942) followed by a UK version in 1958.

The US version of "The Vanishing" was fairly decent--particularly if you hadn't seen the original first.  It was somewhat of a let down if you did see the Netherlands/France version.

I see my 5:15 reference from the Mighty Lee Moon game found a way into your signature. Love that song (and album). Plus, it's got some of your moniker in it.

It's one of my favorites too.  The songs are brilliant and I love the synth orchestration--particularly because it had to be done one or two notes at a time.  No MIDI.  I pretty sure that no polyphonic synths were available back then.

Yeah, I was trying to figure out what to change my signature to when I saw that and thought yeah, that will work.  Thanks for the inspiration.

I'm thinking about changing to a 4th of July theme this week.  I haven't decided on that one yet either.

I'm not sure.  It was funny, once I realized that it was a joke.  You did have the early lead though--if that's what you want.

There are so many subtleties that don't come across in some of the messages, so I usually just take them at face value.  That's what I did with the Titanic joke and I completely missed the joke.  Sometimes--like now--I'll look foolish because of it, but that's going to happen anyway.    I've found (and I hope) that reading threads this way keeps me out of far worse situations where I might assume something that isn't accurate.

I'm sorry if I spoiled the joke.  Sometimes, a joke loses something when it has to be explained.  Your didn't.
