Go to this page: http://blog.cakewalk.com/back-for-a-limited-time-the-softube-mix-bundle-vsts-and-prochannel-modules/ There are links/names for each of the plugins within this bundle. Click on each name/link, and on each plugin you will see two or more photos. The first/top is the prochannel version of that plugin; the second is the vst version. In this Softube Mix Bundle you actually get both the prochannel version and the vst version in the package. The prochannel version does not have all of the softube presets. The vst version does have the presets. Again, you get both. At least I did when I purchased several months ago when they had the last sale.

IMHO - having an iLok to use these is worth it. I don't know how I managed to do anything until I got the Focusing EQ. I love that thing!! But YMMV of course and so forth, it's a personal thing Glad to see these are back in the shop!

iLok? Why the heck should I need to buy a piece of hardware that contributes nothing of value to my system just to run programs I paid for? No sir... I do not like it. This is the type of stuff I thought I could avoid by purchasing Cakewalk products.

I too resisted the dreaded iLok for a long time and then finally broke down and got one because my Ivory II program demanded it. So I got it. Since then it has been really convient for me for quite a few programs, my East West Play program also uses it, my TSAR-1R reverb unit uses it, so by already having it, it's no longer an issue, as an iLock will hold 99 or 100 licenses I believe. I haven't had any problems with it, so there you go. .

Its an extra expense, for the privilege of using the software? Sorry.. No way! Edit = I was hoping that Cakewalk would release an excellent, "Cakewalk Brand," reverb for the Pro-Channel. Hopefully soon. Thanks

Well when you talk with the vendors they say their sales go up after they start using the iLok because people can't use the cracks anymore. Doug over at East West swears by the iLok as his sales went up after they started using it.

Well the bottom line is, are the programs worth it to you to get the iLok ?? In my case I have three very high quality programs that require the iLok. I wouldn't want to be with out any of them. The East West Gold Complete program is fabulous. The Softube TSAR-1R is fabulous. The Ivory II program is fabulous. So by boycotting the iLok, you're only hurting yourself, by limiting your choice of high quality software programs. I've got $1,000's of dollars invested in quality software and computer gear, a measly $40 bucks for an iLok is nothing in comparison.

I had written a big diatribe about this but I don't want to be a jerk or shake things up. I just can't afford silly little gizmos that do nothing and don't like being treated like a criminal when I am a legitimate paying customer. The registration process should be enough. Just my opinion. If anyone can tell me whether this stuff is INDEED worth the hassle and cost I will consider it. If not I will continue purchasing software that does not require the iLok as I have been.

Not only to do refuse to be tethered by an iLok or like device, I cannot afford to free up a port for it. (And please don't suggest a hub!) I am with Linear on this one. Understanding the need to prevent piracy, why should I have to invest more than necessary to use a product I would have already purchased? That's a drag! Wait, I still can't hear anything in SONAR because I refuse to buy a sound card/audio interface. I can't afford to free up....

The iLok was a big put off for me too I'm afraid. There must be other, equally secure ways of licensing software, even more so the what Cakewalk do with their licensing. I purchased some VST stuff from Applied Acoustic Systems at the weekend, and I liked the way that they handled the licensing of their instruments. It's not just the additional cost, for me, in fact, it's not the cost at all really. I use a laptop now, and I am really enjoying the fact that my "studio" is anywhere I want it to be. Not only am I limited by the number of ports available, I don't like the idea of this thing hanging out of the side. Yeah, I know I can use a hub, or a USB extension lead, but I'm going to cut my nose off to spite my face on this one. Remove the dongle, and you have another customer here.

The good old iLok debate... I actually agree with both sides, come to think of it. I hate dongles and if I was still only using a lap top as a DAW I wouldn't get one. But in my desktop I don't mind having one installed. At least iLok is fairly stable. The Steinberg thing (eLisencer?) keeps messing up a bit. I ended up geting an iLok for EWQLSO and then a world of awesome software opened up for me so I'm happy with that. The cost issue - well, based on principles, OK, but it's not really that expensive. I mean, how much do you spend on chips and soda every month? If you choose chips and soda, that's fine too. So many good arguments on both sides. But to be fair, it's really down to principles so once again YMMV. BTW - I don't put any iLok protected stuff on my Lap Top for the same reasons others have mentioned in this thread. I won't ever stick an iLok into my lap top.

Well I don't like buying license plates and insurance for my truck every year but it's a fact of life. If I want to drive I gotta have plates and insurance. Luckily the iLok is only a one time expense and not a yearly fee. But it's your studio, you have the right to run it any way you want. If you don't want an iLok then don't get one. There's plenty of software out there to keep you busy. I chose to get the iLok because the programs I want on my computer demand it.

Just a heads-up in case this has been overlooked. Softube requires the ilok (v1 or v2). Cakewalk's family of products is dongle free..., still. And I don't believe this is going to change any time soon. The iLok saga has been debated ad nauseam (with valid points on both sides of the debate). It's a choice each individual has to make for themselves.

I must concur that I'm extremely happy that I took the plunge the first time around....almost missed it... Glad I didn't miss it... The Ilok is a small price to pay for these and the Slate Plugs IMHO... I don't like it...but I don't like exorbitant taxes, high gas prices, etc...either... It is what it is....and these plugs are worth it to me....

I used to argue the toss over the iLok and the being treated like a criminal mentality was my line as well. then I got an iLok and now realize the convenience of having it as I can have my plugs installed on any PC I like and they're always authorised once I plug in my iLok. When vendors employ other types of registration/activation protection schemes you often run out of activations after a while and you have to go through the hassle of contacting them to reset your activations. When iZotope moved to giving you a choice of iLok or challenge response I actually put all my iZotope plugins on iLok for convenience.

I used to argue the toss over the iLok and the being treated like a criminal mentality was my line as well. I too used to feel this way about a lot of things. Things like someone wanting to look through my bag and see my receipt when leaving a Walmart or other stores not being OK with people bringing bags in the store. Then one day I heard how much money Walmart and other stores lose to theft. Once I was in a small convience store, I was doing some work for them, for the store chain and noticed that they had moved all the cigarettes off the counter. I mentioned it and they told me that they had lost about 100 bucks in stolen packs on ONE SHIFT. It is hard to understand this if you are an honest person. Honest people tend to trust others and generally have no idea how many dishonest people and thieves there are all around them. On the other hand a dishonest person doesn't trust anyone else, they see everyone else as a thief too. Business is in the middle of this as a victim. So, I understand why some companies go with an ilok and if I weren't using a laptop right now I would buy one. It is just one of the costs of living in this world. There is no reason to resent it once you understand just how many people will steal something if they can. I fully understand how you feel. I don't like being treated like I would steal something, like I may be a thief... but that isn't really what is happening. It isn't personal, it is just sad that there are so many dishonest people all around. People who will steal things they don't even want or need, people who will quickly lie for gain, scammers, and on and on. Think about it. Business isn't attacking you personally. I found it a waste of time and effort to take being treated like a potential thief as offensive once I came to understand how much is lost to thieves every day. 50 bucks isn't that much and I will get one once I get a dedicated tower DAW. As Marius said... YMMV. J
