Awesome! Sounds like you dodged the $$ upgrade bullet for a while.

Onward and upward to music making!

I'm talking to Jim Roseberry.  I think I've got some bidniz with Mr. Purrfect Audio coming in the near future.  I'm thinking of building a second system.

Jim built my machine and it's been as solid as the RME HDSP 9652.  Highly recommended.

Win7 Pro x64 SP1 / SONAR Platinum x64 (latest) / Mackie d8b + D8Bridge x32 v1.1 = MCU DAW Controller / Frontier TranzPort DAW Controller / Studiocat 3.20 GHz Intel i7 950, 24 GB DDR3 1600 RAM, Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R 2.0 Mainboard, 2TB SATA3 SSD / NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT v341.95 / RME HDSP9652 PCI (ASIO) / RME ADI-8 QS / 24 bit at 44.1 / New Belgium 1554 / My Stuff

Dave, glad you finally got everything working again now with your newly installed old RME card.

But, like, yikes! A botched RME driver installation rendered your system unbootable? That's kinda scary. Not so sure I'd describe such an experience using the term "to the rescue".

Have fun learning your way around Totalmix!

Edit: Hmmm, why has the forum software decided to change the topic displayed  for this thread to "Re: I've lost confidence in X2" now???

When you buy a used card off of Ebay (even though by appearances, it looked like it had never been used) you don't have all the correct installation software for the card.  I kind of went at the driver installation willy nilly and installed a driver that (I'm guessing) didn't match the card's own internal software.  I realize now that I should have just pointed to a folder where I had a couple of drivers stored and let the card pick the one I needed.

The forum software didn't change the title, I did.  (Unless something has changed.)

A "willy-nilly" approach only invites disaster. Didn't you note and follow the installation info given on RME's driver download page?

Even when buying/installing a brand new current interface (or mobo, gfx card, adapter card, etc.) which comes supplied with a driver CD, it is still wise to grab the very latest drivers (and software and firmware) from the manufacturer's support downloads site  (some manufacturers no longer even supply drivers in the box, forcing users to acquire the drivers online).

Also, with interfaces like RME's HDSP line in which the firmware can be updated, it's usually advisable (if not essential) to flash in the latest firmware. But this is a delicate (critical) procedure which needs to be done with utmost care lest the interface become "bricked".

Probably a wise move to have a pro set up any new/upgrade system for you.

Something seems to have glitched in the forum s/w which changed the topic as displayed (in the post "Re" line and for latest post in forum browser view) in several posts to the topic from another different thread, although the topic displayed in browser title bar remained unchanged.

Hey Dave, hell finally froze over and I tackled moving my Dakota/Montana to my new DAW and moved the new DAW to the studio. So far so good, using the ASIO Beta driver I get 1.5 msec latency! Bought these cards from Jim eons ago, hard to believe they are working in my new 6 core 4 GHz machine. Not too much stick time, so the jury is still out, but initial indications are good!

Even my old Radikal SAC 2.2 control surface is working in Mackie emulation mode. Pretty cool! Its USB driver was always buggy so I had stopped using it, but for Win7 they have no USB driver, so it was either try Mackie mode or get rid of it; it worked.

I ended up selling my Dakota card and Sierra unit on Ebay as well as my Alphatrack.  All of them did a good job for me.

The RME is working for me now in a new Purrrfect Audio computer.  I still have the pair of Frontier Tangos that I bought on Ebay years back.  I still keep an eye out for a used one if it happens to pop up.  Frontier gear is stout.

Hey guys, remember CJ used to say it is the driver.
And he is right I think.
Left my 3 Delta 1010s 3 weeks ago for a new interface, and all the problems I had that I thought had to do with either Sonar or something else, disappear.
There is something weird going on with the old and defunct drivers.
So I feel guilty now for blaming Sonar (silently, of course at my studio) all this time.
And to CJ my man, you are right, never thought of you as a genius. But you are.  You are ahead of your time.

In my case, I don't think Cakewalk was to blame for my Dakota problems.  They went the extra mile by contacting me to see if I could coordinate some exchange of information between Frontier Designs and them so that they could fix the problem, (I'm guessing) at some time in the future.  But at that time it was clear to me by the lack of communication from Frontier that their hardware line was on the endangered species list and doomed for extinction.  So maybe SONAR exposed a deficiency in the Dakota drivers or the drivers exposed an issue with SONAR.  Who knows for sure?

To keep my work schedule, I switched to Studio One and took the same gear, same audio files, same plugins, same outdated soundcard drivers and finished the track as well as continued the project with other songs.
Does that imply anything?  I would say, No.  I have Samplitude Pro X, Studio One, Sonar X3, Pro Tools 10 and Pro Tools 11 on my brand new machine and I have the superhuman ability to crash every one of them at some time or another.    So I'm of the opinion that if you aren't crashing something, you aren't pushing the boundaries of your system and you are a DAW Wussie and you work on safe, little bitty 8 track projects with no plugins.  <Just joking>
