[Solved] X3c Suddenly every save = instant crash!

That is rather odd. What are your I/O buffers set to (Advanced Mode: Preferences->Audio->Synch and Caching)?
 
If something just "suddenly happens," it is often a change to system configuration. Did you install or modify your machine any before this began happening?

Run chkdsk and check your event viewer I suggest.

After looking in event viewer I show 3 events after 3 attempted saves-Session "Microsoft Security Client OOBE" stopped due to the following error: 0xC000000D

It "appears" that MS Security Client is attempting to virus scan your project during the save. If you disable that when running X3c, does it resolve this?

Are you using any other virus scanner other than Microsoft security essentials? If so they could be conflicting.


If not please uninstall MS Security essentials, reboot and then reinstall:

Any further errors in the event viewer please give us the full error, there are copy faculties within the event viewer itself.
And we have no idea about your environment, would it be possible to update your footer to look similar to mine?

Oh ZoneAlarm and MS security essentials at the same time, well that may explain it.
I in fact run ZoneAlarm quite happily, I can give advise on configuration tomorrow (I've got it optimized for Sonar), in the meantime could you please go to ZoneAlarm -> Help -> About -> Copy to Clipboard and paste here please.
Make sure you remove your serial number though!!
 
If it's expired let me know... BTW you might think you've disabled ZoneAlarm but you haven't (impossible without removal).
Then we can decide on best course of action...

Sorry what's the windows version and version of Sonar? (64 bit or 32 bit?).
Trying to work out best option for ZoneAlarm, depending on the OS. Might need total removal.

OK so the Free version of ZoneAlarm is next to useless, it does not do antivirus and frankly the only version that's any good is the internet security suite or extreme edition.

Windows 7 firewall and security essentials should be perfectly adequete unless you wish to buy ZoneAlarm (I run the paid version myself without issue, this is not necessarily a recommendation as there are other good paid for virus scanners out there).


Assuming you don't want to buy ZoneAlarm here are the steps I recommend:

1) Remove ZoneAlarm. Reboot.
2) Remove Windows Security Essentials. Reboot
3) Install Windows Windows Security Essentials. Reboot.

4) Make sure windows firewall is turned on:

5) Run windows update (several times if necessary). Install optional performance updates as well. Reboot.
6) Do a full virus scan of your hard drive with Security Essentials.

7) Run chkdsk on your harddrives (if you haven't already).
8) Check your event log again.
 
If the situation persists after this we will move onto driver updates.

Full virus scan. No problems. No success. Drivers all updated, all steps above you suggested completed. Sent .dmp files to Cakewalk. Guess we'll have to see what they come up with.

I saw in a couple of web threads that deleting/renaming one file seemed to clear it up for some folks.
 
Might be worth trying.

It looks like this is caused by some kind of corruption in the AV Client, anyways simply rename the following file and reboot:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Microsoft Security Client\Support\EppOobe.etl (add .old or something)
Fixed!"
 
Please note that the above path is in a hidden folder (ProgramData), so you might need to enable viewing of hidden folders.

I believe that error is an access violation.
 
Are you launching Sonar with explicit Run as Administrator?
 
And, did you also do the original installation of Sonar the same way?
 
it is not enough just to BE an administrator, you must explicitly launch the installer with Run
As Administrator, to get elevated privileges/permissions.
 
And for whatever the worth, if any, I always have Sonar running with Run As Administrator, and modified the Properties of the Sonar icon (under advanced) to set that option.

I still have x2 on  my computer and have no problems saving files. Never had to run the program as Administrator before. I've tried running X3 as administrator and that doesn't fix the problem either.

So I run X2 as a test everything saves fine. So I thought, it's most likely not drivers, permissions, firewalls, etc. While I'm pondering my bleak Cakewalk recording future, I notice my X3c patch sitting on my desktop, and I'm thinking, my troubles didn't start till installed that little bastard. I realize I most likely can't downgrade to X3b without a lot of hassle so I thought about something that I hadn't considered doing and that no one had suggested...what would happen if I ran the X3c patch again? What do I have to lose at this point? So I ran the patch again, successfully annnnnddd....EVERYTHING'S FINE AGAIN! Are you kidding me? Good Lord. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We'll see how long this one lasts....at least if I get the error, I'll know what to do.

Don't know if this would have solved your problem, but before I install anything, I turn off any virus protection software. Sometimes it flips out if your installation is trying to do something to the system.

I think #16 would have been by far and the best way to resolve this, ZoneAlarm Free + security essentials = not good and reinstalling should have cleared any legacy issues in the event viewer. Just deleting the .etl has had mixed results apparently.
