Someone mentioned the dmise of SONAR due to a lack of MAC version...
Well, I am beginning to see that CW/SONAR will have a difficult challenge in the future... As the iPad gains further advances and competing companies exploit these advances, counterpart platforms such as Android will loose out simply because there are so many alternate (hardware) platforms available where as there is only one iOS platform, the iPad. We cannot deny the convenience of portability and versatility available in a single platform. Consider the following and then try to see where Cakewalk will fit into this future.... http://www.youtube.com/wa...x=1&feature=plpp_video -- just putting it out there. PS. I am not an Apple fan in the least or any company which exploit overseas workers for profit in the US.
Kind regards, Living Room Rocker

Did you know that over 500 000 Android units are activated every 24 hours? Also, and not to offend anyone, but if you make your DAW decisions based on what works on a phone, you and I are definitely not in the same line of work :O)

There are many more Android users than ios. The fact that it's open architecture wont hurt them anymore than it's hurt microsoft. ipad is cool, but it has some crazy competition lately

And Mac OS and iOS are different platforms as well. Having a MacOS version of Sonar wouldn't really put you any closer to an iPad version. Ironically, Microsoft's .NET (in desktop and mobile editions) is far closer to this goal, they just lack any real market share in mobile devices.
Don't ask the question if you cannot live with the answer.

i don't think cakewalk should get into the android market though. but as soon windows 8 comes out i'm sure the demand for windows 8 tablets will become huge media convergence is happening all the time and any company that wants to survive the competition always have to adapt. i'm not worried for cakewalk, since it's running on a windows platform and microsoft seems to keep in phase

@LJB & Blix. -- What you two are failing to see is that the iPad may be used in conjunction with an interface such as Mackie's and Alesis' (which will be much more costly to accommodate the many Andriod devices, for instance). Further, you are not looking into the future as this is just the beginning of a much larger potential market for music makers. Now, we are NOT talking about a phone and we are not considering the many Android users who will not be considering making music on an electronic device...or music at all for that matter. You guys are comparing two completely different things which have nothing to do with making music electronically. Did I mention "portability and versatility" in my initial post? An arrogant, narrow minded opinion isn't going to go far in a world of innovation. ____ @Andy - No, we are not talking specifically about the MAC OS but about SONAR's lack of compatibility with Apple. (that is SONAR specifically and not CW products generally). It was just along the same line of thought.

LRL, my opinion is very simply that serious music producers don't really care about cute aps and touchy-feely screens. They care about stuff that works, no matter the flavour of the month might be. I am one of those guys. My award-winning clients (including some Grammys) don't ask me if I use iOS or Android whatever, they listen to my work and dig it or dont. I use a laptop as remote control in my studio all the time - it's damned handy. But I chose gear based on performance, and software for the same reasons. If it fits on an iPad I might buy an iPad, but if Sonar does not work on an iPad I am still going to run Sonar. I am not arrogant mate, just experienced :O)

I for one believe that the future is one where we no longer are able to purchase licensed software to install on our hard drives but will purhase subscriptions to access our programs and store our data in the cloud. That does not not mean that I believe that an Apple operating system is the gatekeeper to such a system and that all who don't code for iPad will fall by the wayside. I'm sure the Bakers have a finger on the pulse of where the technology is going.

I guess it's OK to blow your money on an iPad, but I highly recommend AGAINST taking it out in public, because you really don't want to be seen with it, in my rarely to be humble opinion.... All kidding aside, Windows is stronger than ever and even though OSX is fine, all the limitations and fascist undertones of the fruity universe make me glad I'm not gullible. Most truly creative musicians I know use PCs, many of them Sonar. When I see those poor suckers with their 'industry standard' Pro-tools, on their $2000 MacBooks, who can't even run input monitoring at a low enough latency to work comfortably, I realize how ignorant people are. I used to try to help them and explain, but they don't want to hear; so now, I realize it's only to my benefit, because I have an advantage! So let's keep it Windows only! Guess what....you can run Sonar on an x86 tablet! It always blows my mind when people get SO excited when there's some new app for their iPad that does 10% of what a real program does on a regular computer! I think Microsoft made the right decision, thinking about the long term, NOT developing a dedicated tablet OS. Wait for those Windows 8 tablets, especially ones with x86 chips, and be amazed when you can just hook up the USB audio interface you ALREADY have; no need to buy yet another one with a proprietary iPod connector, which the fruity overlords will make obsolete any day now... put it in your pocket and bring it with you into the song booth and start the recording from there .. for example. and maybe mix the monitor levels too, if needed, without having to leave the booth :) not everyone need this. but i think many would start using it if available.. no one "needed" cell phones before they were introduced either

ah! sorry! i wasn't clear enough. what i really meant was that one could control the main DAW on the computer, with the phone from the booth. :) but recording ideas anywhere and anytime is also something i do all the time on my cell phone! and doing that with a computer isn't possible either since it's not with you all the time ;)

Things are coming to a merger.... Taking it's sweet time, but all in all, computers are speaking with each other better everyday regardless of which OS are being used... I have Sonar working on my Mac Pro using bootcamp for dual boot.... Works fine and as fast as I expect from the raw power this machine has... I can control it from V-Control on my ipad... I also use V-control to remote my (current) main DAW on an Acer PC running windows Vista (32 bit)... All is well there... I'm currently waiting for the money to buy win7 ultimate for the mac (only win7 Pro and Ultimate can use more than 4 cores) and an audio interface for the mac.... then I will run that for the dual-Quad Xeon's and 16GB RAM and it will be my main DAW.... Windows OS on Apple hardware... I may occasionally boot to the Mac OS for some reason, but I prefer the windows OS myself... I haven't tried it, but another app called Parallels for the Mac allows you to run windows programs alongside amc programs under the OSX OS.... I don't know if or how well it may work with Sonar, but that looks like a great alternative.... ....and all of these situations are continually expanding and improving... So hopefully one day soon the "OS Wars" will finally be over and we will have harmony between them.... So need Cakewalk spend the work-hours to design and maintain an OSX version? perdonally I'd rather see them spend that time perfecting "the" Sonar version! Keni

Ricardo is touching on where I am coming from... SONAR on a Pad is doable (via x86); however, an interface such as Mackie's is not going to work nor would they bother creating their device for an Andriod or Win8 OS simply because there are so many different non-Apple pads out there. -------- @ LJB, I merely said your opinion is arrogant, but now your attitude is. I use SONAR seriously and hope it will grow to better suite my mastering needs. But just as you mentioned yourself, I use a laptop and other gear remotely for "sessions" and doing demo work. It would benefit me so much more if I could have SONAR running on an pad with a streamline interface like Mackie's without having to work with so many other devices. Again, you are missing the point of portability and versatility. But I am not getting excited about the latest thing... only seeing technology advance on that side where we are only seeing slow and clunky change on our end. How can you guys dismiss the versatility of iPad products like it's the worst thing to happen to music? You guys are not taking technology seriously. Or perhaps you have forgot just how far technology has brought us to date. I don't want Apple stuff, but I would love to have a pad slip into the DL1608 or something like it and run SONAR, but that doesn't seem likely. Third party markers are not going to develop non-Apple devices for such a diverse market. --------@M Glen, I was not attacking LJB, only making a legitimate point of his opinion. I am confident his opinion would change if he were to utilize something like the DL1608 on Apple or otherwise (not that I have). Again, I am no fan of Apple. Just wish we had access to compatible products for our benefit....geeesh.

Android will be the leader -I have read that numerous times. I do not own either, don't even have a smartphone. But I know I will never ever "again" be captured by an OS that thinks it's king and force me to buy it's crap. That is the main reason I left the Mac world and joined the realworld. just MHO of course. Not trying to ruffle feathers here.

If that's vesatility I'll avoid it thanks........ I still have nightmares about it now.

My little xps 15" laptop[i7 2630] is as small, and as powerless[its powerful, but not compared to my desk]as I'm willing to put up with, but it's been great for learning X1,practicing,watching Craigs vids, reading the Sonar CHM,[better than the manual IMO,as it has all the X1d stuff in it]. Going to an iPad/touch thing, would NOT be too cool for me ATM,and until they're as powerful as this laptop,I ain't interested in them. Sonar, can be run just like W7 can on mac, with B.camp,or whatever, but it does annoy me I can't see what "Logic" is about, cause I'm too careful with money to buy a mac. Bob

iPad is a different question, but as far as Macs go, the music retailer I uses sells Mac laptops enabled to run Windows for people who want to have a portable Sonar studio. You can get powerful PC laptops but they are less common and usually larger. I can see using an iPad for sketching song ideas; but in that case, I would just import the MIDI and the wavs into Sonar when I got home. To make an iPad capable of doing everything I would want, I would have to add a dock, a keyboard, an interface, etc. and that would sort of defeat the portability advantage. Maybe in a few years a tablet will be capable enough, but why don't we wait to see what products are out there then? I fully expect today's technology to become obsolete in a few years, so I don't worry about it. Hopefully the tracks I create will still be valid.

eikelbijter When I see those poor suckers with their 'industry standard' Pro-tools, on their $2000 MacBooks, who can't even run input monitoring at a low enough latency to work comfortably, I realize how ignorant people are. I used to try to help them and explain, but they don't want to hear. I'm one of those "suckers". You seem to be making an awful lot of assumptions there. MacBook Pro can be bought for less much than $2000. Input monitoring works just fine for me on mine. Some "suckers" like me also happen to have years of experience on the PC platform and actually used to put their own machine together from scratch. So while you are entitled to your opinions, we'd still have to determine exactly what you could explain to them/us. Ignorance and assumptions go hand in hand.
