Sonar 2016.4 Crashes with no Audio Interface Connected

There may be another thread re: this issue but I cannot find it.
I just powered up my DAW PC to check on a problem in another post.
I did not bother turning on the audio interface. (Tascam FW-1884 firewire).
When Sonar first started, I got the usual 'no audio interface' message.
I tried to open a NEW project. (this always worked before with no AI connected).
Sonar crashed and closed.I tried it 5 times. This is a new behavior.
I normally always have the AI on when booting the PC so this issue may be occurring prior to 2016.4 update as well.
Anyone else seeing this issue?

Hi. I could not replicate on my laptop. I tried to remove my soundcard from SONAR's Audio, Devices in Preferences, and SONAR opened with this message

    (but without any other issues).
    All the best.

    Thanks, guys.
Must be my rig. I tried a USB audio device and got the same result as before.
Also I tried opening an existing project and got the same result.
