Bub Beagle yes, you can load the OEM with either/both 32bit and 64bit You 100% sure on that? I can only load 64bit from my OEM Win7 DVD. You sure there aren't different versions maybe? Same here. 64 bit only from my OEM (W7 Pro) DVD. Tim you are hanging between the old and the new and nothing is going to suit. If the 32 RME driver works under win 64 then fine. Otherwise you will have to compromise either the extra memory on your new machine or get a card with 64 bit capable drivers, it is as simple as that. Try a dual boot setup with something like the quad/octa capture for 64 bit use and keep an XP boot to work in your old way (but faster). I'll venture you'll end up migrating toward x64 sooner rather than later but it will be painless. There's no need for 2 drives to setup the dual boot on as you will only be booting from one or the other partitions and a 500Mb drive split in two will be plenty for that. What was/is your main reason to upgrade the machine?

There are significant advantages to a 64 bit OS even if you are running 32 bit apps: Multiple concurrent 32 bit apps can each gain access to a full 4GB of RAM. The Wow64 layer doesnt actually impose any overhead since it uses the hardware. More here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa384219(v=VS.85).aspx The system also benefits from the extra 64 bit registers available.

You can use jBridge in 32 Bit SONAR. It makes it possible to load a plugin into it's own chunk of memory space even in SONAR 32 as long as you're using a 64 bit OS with more than 4 gigs of RAM. ie if you can get your 32 bit RME driver to run on Win 7 x64. jBridge will even allow you run a 64 bit plugin in a 32 bit host but still acess the extra memory of the OS. I'm curious what RME card is that "old" that there is no 64 bit support for it.

For me, this issue comes down to 2 main points: 1. Do your RME's 32bit drivers work reliably with a 64bit OS. If the answer is 'no', or 'I'm not sure', then running it in an unsupported fashion may cause you heartache if you encounter any issues, as RME will (rightly) tell you that you're running an unsupported configuration. 2. If you're willing to take the chance outlined in #1 because you feel your 32bit audio interface's drivers work properly in a 64 bit OS, then yes, going 64 bit has several advantages as others have outlined above. That said, I just took a quick look at RME's site & it looks like the 9652 drivers are for 32 AND 64 bit OS. If that's your interface, you shoudl be good to go with a 64 bit OS. Apologies if I have the wrong RME device, but the info is here: http://www.rme-audio.de/en_downloads.php?page=content/downloads/en_downloads_driver&subpage=content/downloads/en_downloads_driver_hdspe Hope that helps. yea, I think I wanted a Gigabyte board. But after asking and searching forever, I gave up and basically got the Asus because Newegg had them paired so I figured they'd work together. Scientific huh..? I don't see much difference besides the name. Anyway, I've got all the pieces. So, as soon as I get done grouting my bathroom, I'm on it.
