You can use both as Bitflipper say on the same computer. I do!

But Freddie, why would you use both when 64-bit is clearly 50% better on the CPU?

I don't, but I use it for exampe stuff that doesn't work in SONAR 64bit like MELODYNE!
But today I can use that too in SONAR 64bit thru bitbridge. Also I need it sometimes to activate license on 32bit applications.

No as I said both the 32 and 64 bit versions of SONAR can be simultaneously installed. It is in fact desirable to install that way for the maximum flexibility.

A side note to my post:   I kept the 32 bit system ready incase 64 bit gave me too much trouble or i had a hard time finishing earlier projects,   I have not touched the 32 bit machine....

Comparers

A 32bit computer is a car running on 3 gears.
A 64bit computer is a car running on 6 gears.

Both have the same engine. What car do you think will drive fastest in km/h? The car on gear 3 or the car on 6 gear?
The car on 6 gear of course. This is how 64bit computing work very easy basic explained.

Sorry being an avid bike rider I have to jump in on this thread. I appreciate your trying to make it simple for most people but you'll need to come up with another analogy.

  This analogy doesn't work.

The amount of gears have nothing to do with speed. I have ridden bikes that have 3 gears that are as fast as my 18 gears now. I have driven (years ago) a car with 2 speeds that is as fast as my 5 speed at the moment. It is not the amount of gears that give you speed. The amount of gears just give you more selection or choice in usually the same range.

Now as far as 32 vs 64 ........... I guess the answer is ....yes 64 is faster..... by how much depends on a lot of factors.....most importantly the code written to take advantage of it............but I would wait until we have terabytes of RAM to worry about moving on. I remember when 4kbs of RAM was big stuff and then there was 4 megs in the early 90's..... whoo hoo!

Okay, Noel (or anybody who has both versions installed), please forgive my densiosity on flogging this horse. But, can I assume that all I need to do to install the 64 bit version to work alongside the 32 bit versions is just install (from the main Sonar DVD-ROM, I would assume?) the 64 bit version? Installation will not "see" that the 32 bit version is there and try to stop or overwrite it? Then, when it's done, it will want me to register again. Can I assume I can register this version to activate it as well, and then install the Sonar 8.3.1 update in 64-bit version?

If this is so, does this create two separate startup icons, directories, program folders for Sonar 32 and 64? Or do I have to figure which icon starts what?

Sorry to be asking the questions, but I don't want to do something wrong at this point, given all the time it took me to get the 32-bit version installed.

Yes. Its not so much that it will see it as it installs its in two entirely different installations. Including the registry.

Yes.

Hey Freddie... lemme know where the best deal is to get that 128 GB of RAM which I can also access my 32 bit plugins with, too.

Nice analogy. Im held up with a fractured knee and fractured foot and tore MCL from biking down a mountain in Whisler, Canada.
The best bike for speed is a single gear for downhill moutain biking. Why, Cause its not the gear that dictates the speed.

Hey CJ,  sorry to hear about your accident.  My oldest son is really into downhill biking and I have watched videos of people riding down Whisler, Canada. He hopes to one day travel to Canada with his mate and ride down there.  What kind of bike do you ride? My oldest has a Specialized 2008 Big Hit FSR 2.  It is a pretty sweet bike.

I am using Vista 32 bit Home Premium.  Should I get Vista 64bit or wait until Windows 7 64 is released?  I have 4 GB or RAM now, my machine accepts a max of 8GB.

Thanks,

Ted

Better to access at least 16GB RAM then non over 4GB like in 32bit OS!
