Yes most important to Sonar is top notch audio drivers. The Behringer will work but they have pretty low quality drivers ( if any) on those little mixers .. I have one myself and it uses Generic audio codex. Just fine for playback or a straight up stereo recording into Audacity , but multi track recording will end up out of sync to other tracks.

Top of my list for budget interfaces is the Tascam 2x2 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/US2X2
And check out this sale price...$120.
It has the option of plug in power which the Focusrite 2i2 and 2i4 do not. I have a Focurite 6i6 which is solid drivers but the Pre amps I do not like. Next on my list is the Tascam

How is the Tascam driver support for Win 7 Pro 64?

thx

Well they have drivers for W7  8.1 and 10. So support is good. I'm using W7 64 with mine and it's fine.
You bring up an important part of shopping for an interface.. Always check the download page and make sure there are drivers for your system.. Many don't and find out the hard way.
And As you see I use both the Scarlett and the Tascam. Nobody need to work in 192. 48 is totally all real people need. leave the higher rates for the people who think it's better.. Well it might be .01% better. If you need that then go for it.
The 2i2 is buss powered which causes issues with USB noise and not enough juice for some phantom powered mikes. Better to have the option of a wall wart for power.
Forget about internal sound cards.. They do make them but I think they are in the $800 price range.
And under $200 computer sound cards suck for drivers. They are not designed for DAW.

+1 for Johnny's comments above. Drivers are paramount.

Quick caveat, you *can* use on-board audio for playback-only situations... This is basically all that they are designed for. If recording audio, they fall flat, which is where the audio interface is required.

ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.
