All Sonar versions have in the past been completely separate installations which can be run side by side with previous versions, or the older ones can be deleted - it's your choice.

I can't see Cake moving away from this philosophy

Besides that, can you imagine the coding nightmare involved in upgrading an existing installation?

Users can currently have X1, X1a, X1b, X1c, X1d, X1c Expanded, X1d expanded - how would the installer cope with knowing which files to overwrite? And that's without figuring in other options for Essential, Studio etc.

No, if this isn't a stand-alone, self-sufficient version, I'll buy it for you myself! That's a promise!

How do you guys know that you dont need to uninstall or delete X1?

How close are you guys to telepathy or the insiders at cakewalk?

Surpises me how much knowledge of a new product you have got. Wouldn't it be better to wait and see or to ask questions to get information first.

Some of you guys are from the Water Margins aren't you cool it down sensei!
The same way we know the sun will rise or that night goes into day. Its the way its always been. Why would CW change the way it has operated since forever?

You are the one that would need to provide evidence to dispute what users have known for as long as CW has been in business.

Time to get rid of the legacy folder structure.

The current default installation folder structure is based upon adding stuff for years without reason.   And is reflective of temporary fits-of-inattention.

Especially the "Shared " prefix added to some folders. (Sure am glad no one was allowed to prefix all folder names with "MY," the ultimate stupidity)

-----------------------------

I do NOT want to be forced to use the predefined folder paths used by X1.

I want to choose ALL the folders during installation: including samples, synth programs, track templates,...

--------------------------------

A folder structure that provides easy user-backup of user-saved data: presets, programs, loops, wavs, sysex,...

NO user data should ever be placed in hidden folders.

Currently presets are saved in about 4 places. Synth programs as well.

Attempting to save DP programs requires navagation to the correct folder. This should be a default setting, defined during installation.

Sonar X1 took at least one year to get fairly stable but it's still buggy. Instead of free bugfixes on X1 they want money for a X2 upgrade... Not from me, no chance! LoL!

They did mention improved installation. There should be a dialog that ask if you want X2 installed over X1 if it detects it on the system. And one for a separate new installation that would leave X1 intact. They should also have automatic or manual online updates instead of us having to download the patches separately then installing them - this way no one has to figure out which order of patches to install or have to uninstall, ie. the quickfixes. Just a more user friendly update approach I would say.

I think they are one and the same and the poster simply used jargon from another product.

Hopefully the take lanes are more like I described in a feature request about 10 years ago, a way to easily manage multiple takes for multi-tracked recordings. Currently it's a bit awkward. I'd like to be able to specify a take view by take number and filter the displayed tracks accordingly, or see it all flat if need be.

Well to answer! X1d was a different install wasn't it?

Some people could not upgrade to X1d so easily. Hopefully, with Sonar's new module installation will also change!

Thanks Noel for your response. Glad that's it fixed in X2... that being said, WHEN is it going to be fixed in X1? I will NOT upgrade, unless there is a reasonably sufficient update to X1 to take care of some of the ridiculous problems X1 has. I'm assuming based on what I was told by customer support, that there WILL be an update to X1 BEfORE X2. I was told to 'Stay tuned, An update is in the works', of course this was back in March when all hell broke loose after the X1d update. I'll be happy to upgrade to X2, but I need a sign of honesty and integrity. Please take care of your X1 customers, by following through with a (VERY NEEDED substantial update. You'll likely gain back the trust that has been lost. And you'll assure the highest percentage of upgrades to X2. Please support the Professionals that are supporting you and your families! All of the troubles cost either Me valuable time or my clients $$$ if I so choose to pass the cost of the extra time it takes to do everything in X1EXP D to their studio bill, knowing that the program is to blame.

Well, no it wasn't.

Step 1 - take disc out of plastic box
Step 2 - put disc in tray
Step 3 - follow instructions

Exactly the same for at least the previous 5 versions

upgrades and updates are different things. x1d is an update it installs right on top of your current version of sonar you can't even install X1d on your system unless X1c is installed.

hen I was auditioning the industry standard, Pro Tools 10, I found that a lot of what used to be accessible in S8.5 was a mouse click or two away.

FWIW, I have ProTools on my DAW... but I'm not crazy about the UI and work-flow.

I was kinda looking forward to a mastering suite, ie., Studio One project page.  It updates your master if you make changes to your mix.  I love that feature.

That's a very unique (somewhat revolutionary) feature in Studio One.
Very cool/useful...

Based on the past 16+ software releases, I think it's pretty safe to assume that the new version will install side-by-side with Sonar 8.5 and/or X1.
To do otherwise would be a major disservice to transitioning end-users.
