All of us in the voiceover business have been asking for this for years. But just the sound of crickets mostly, in return. Yeah, I liked that feature back when I was a heavy Samplitude 2496 user (been a good while ago). Doesn't seem like it would be that hard to implement... My girl (one in the avatar) does a lot of VO work (very characteristic voice). I listened to her (on local rock radio) when I was in my early 20s. Now in my mid 40s, I'm dating her. Life is funny...

Although my ol pal Colonel Ryan did say he thought it was a good idea once;-) I've never thought of this, but I betcha I would use this feature a lot if it was there. This Thread has so many posts and pretty cool points. I wondering how quickly will flame out by just saying the magic words.... Staff View

Staff View Last significant update was a while ago... Early CPA days??? Might be nice if someday there was a "plugin/expansion standard" that would permit a 3rd-party to develope an advanced Staff View... or other custom editors for that matter. Of course, that would open a can of potential instability...

What I would love to know is if X2 will have better I/O routing. Will a VSTi be able to have inputs? Will a VST be able to have more than two outputs? This is important to me because a majority of my external hardware is controlled by VSTi/VSTs that require inputs and multiple outputs. I can accomplish what I need in Sonar only by using something like Plogue Bidule VSTi/VST. Bidule has versions that have 16 or 32 inputs and outputs but I have to tell Sonar it only has 2 inputs just so I can use it without Sonar locking up. You still can't access the inputs at all, though, because I have to use it in the Synth Rack just to get the multiple outputs. Here's an example of a routing scheme that is possible in Bidule inside Sonar but is not possible in Sonar alone: Blue lines and nodes are audio routing, white are midi, and the blocks represent VSTi/VSTs. This pic is an old version of Bidule that was provided to get past the I/O deficiencies in Sonar. I figured out the workaround so I don't have to bother plugin developers every time they update for a special Sonar version. It's pretty annoying to be able to do this in a plugin running in Sonar yet I can't in Sonar alone.

Prepare for an onslaught from the non-staffers No worries - there is an entire thread dedicated to the lack of any mention of SV improvement in X2. However, we have not seen the 2nd teaser yet... <crosses fingers> Among staffers, there are feelings ranging from disappointment to anger, but this is not intended for consumption by non-staffers - I don't think they have anything to fear.

Not to be a downer...but.....I'm still traumatized from the X1 experience! That was "HORRIBLE" to say the least...and I've been with Cakewalk since Cakewalk 3. I can't forget the frustration from all those bugs In X1.. in comparison to Sonar 8.05PE. Umm...I seriously suggest the Bakers release a Demo version before I even think about upgrading. I'm not about to have my creativity stifled again because you guys need to make a buck!

What happened with X1 was expected as far as I am concerned. When you touch the Core engine you are asking for trouble and in this day in age (I'm older, thus from the old sw development cycle) which has an Alpha, Beta, Ship cycle the user robustness testing is actually done by the customer. in my opinion in this "if it's not downloadable for free I don't want it" modern mentality it's ok but for us all who are whiling to pay it bugs me a lot. This is not a CW specific problem. It's the entire software industry that is screwed up. It took 3 releases (7,8,8.5) to get it right. This is why, and for the reason mentionned above, I am likely going to dkip X2 Obviously this is a persnnal point of view but I have worked 20 years in software developement cycle and I have seen the increase of side effects of shorter developement cycle

LANEY Well I guess I will wait for the update. Was looking at R-mix, I can wait. I hear some really bad reviews on the r-mix stuff. Which is sad. I spent a fair amount of time with R-Mix, and wrote a review of it for Harmony Central. There are five audio examples that are pretty real-world. There are two main issues. The first is that its effectiveness depends on the program material. If sounds overlap in terms of frequency and stereo position, you can't modify one without modifying the other, which may or may not work. On the other hand isolated sounds work really well. You can do things like take kick out of a loop, or move a hi-hat from panned left to panned right, very effectively. My biggest surprise, which is one of the audio examples, involved two vocalists - one panned to center, the other slightly off center. I was able to add reverd to only the off-center background vocals, which I didn't expect. The other issue is you need to get good at it. It takes a while to get used to thinking of music as a three-axis display. I'd logged a lot of time with Audition's spectral view and more recently izotope Iris, so it wasn't unfamiliar to me - I'd already scaled most of the learning curve, but there is a learning curve. For any kind of dub music, though, it's downright magical and it has some serious remix possibilities. Its true calling might be processing tracks, not program material. I emailed Roland after I'd played with it for a while and said "Hey, you should really include this in Sonar!" They were probably already ahead of me on that one.

I wonder if the long standing bug (4 or 5 years?) of only being able to have one vst with midi output enabled in a project has been fixed? Two vst's sending midi output crashes sonar every time. I also use bidule to get around Sonar's limited routing and this issue above. If these were addressed along with the automation I would be willing to try X2.

Riddle me this, I own X1 Expanded and all PCM's already. If I upgrade to X1 Production Suite for $100 now, then I get X2 for free when it's released right? All I'll really gain is Z3TA+2 but I'm locked in for the upgrade. Am I missing something or is this a no-brainer?

I'm running X1d expanded just fine,and I had kind of hoped they would keep the "X1" moniker,as a lasting identity,as everything like the books[X1 Power] videos[G3 X1 Explained,X1 Tips n Tricks,Craig Andertons X1 Advanced,Next Level,and CW's Mixing X1]will all seem a tad redundent,but in name only I guess? Anyway,I think I'll wait,till the immediate adopters report in.......but I bet I cant![ Cheeers Bob

It's really Sonar X with a numerical value proceeding it to identify the version. X1 would have always been sweet, but how do they continue to sell it? FastBikerBoys idea of a paid for X1e,f,g,h... may have worked for some of us but for the rest of the folks and industry - I'm not sure... Imagine going into your music store 4 years from now and still seeing the same X1 box while the competitors have released several different looking boxed versions with a different name each year. So to keep it new and fresh, X2 had to be baked and with a 2 instead of a 1.

Best to leave all versions installed. Handy if you just need to touch up a mix done in older versions with older and 32 bit plugins etc. If you want to do a complete remix, import the project into the later version. It won't be backward compatible.
