Sonar doesn't recognize Blue Spark USB Microphone

Hello all.

I just purchased this pretty sweet Spark Blue USB microphone and set everything in Windows fine.....works great with Sony/Sound Forge.

However, Sonar doesn't recognize it at all.  I have SONAR X2, Windows 8, and M-Audio Fast Track Ultra audio interface.

Is there a trick to adding new USB interfaces in SONAR X2?  Thanks!

Generally using USB microphones with a DAW is a bad idea. If you are running the Fast Track Ultra in ASIO mode, remember the ASIO specification only allows one I/O interface at a time. So you cannot use the microphone and the FTU at the same time.

I have nothing but issues with the M-Audio Ultra Windows 8 and SONAR.  A lot of latency and I have no Windows controls like I did with VISTA.

So what is the best reasonably priced audio interface for SONAR that will work with multiple USB devices and Windows 8?  Thanks for the response.

Don't have Win8 so I will not be much help on the interface front. The microphone is another matter. Return it/ sell it/ throw it away/ replace it with a microphone that works with a normal preamp or learn to live with the grief it will give you.

Note that the mic is not just another USB-device. If you want to use the most recommendable driver (ASIO, not ASIO4ALL)) you can not use another ASIO-device simultaneously (assuming the mic supports ASIO). That's not Fast Tracks fault. If you must, then try WDM driver, it doesn't have the limitation. Also, make sure you have the latest ASIO driver for the Fast Track.

Basicly, with a USB-mic you can never do things "like the big boys do".

Not knowing anything about your system it's hard to say about latency etc. You should put your system specs in your signature. What is your (ASIO?) latency set at?
AFAIK the Fast Track should work without problems if you have everything set up ok. If there are known W8 issues, someone will surely chime in to tell.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Although the quality of the M-Audio is questionable, your issue isn't about "which interface" it's more to do with your driver - ASIO with any interface will only support one I/O interface at a time and your USB mic will appear to Sonar as though it's another interface and simply won't work.

Thanks for the input...I changed it to WDM and SONAR recognizes both.

Although this mic makes recording a little more challenging because it's a totally separate interface, the clarity is well worth it.  I have owned Audio Technica, Neumann, and  Sennheiser microphones and they weren't as clear.  This little guy is powerful and for $199, you can't beat the clarity and the fullness you get when you record.

    Thanks again.
