X2 A-Update--> 2012-18-12...2013-06-04 and still no new B update?

X2 A-Update--> 2012-18-12...2013-06-04 and still no new B update?
There are no excuse that we need to sit and wait for a simple  "fix - problems" update so long. I use SONAR X2 in m daily job, a tool for me making music and productions. X2a okay stable but all other DAWs are that too like Cubase, Logic, Samplitude. I wouldn't expect less from a professional DAW program... or isn't SONAR X2 that?

Still I have found "bugs" /problems still no one seem to care to fix them at Cakewalk? Cakewalk use to be fast on sending out update not slooooooooooowwwwwww as today. I really like that. Also they use to add new things, listing on the customers. I will soon leave this boat if this pattern continue.

Best regards
Freddie

Perhaps we should look at a longer development cycle for x2 . If its 2 years like x1  then maybe 6 months between update releases isnt unreasonable.
Thats about what Sony does and its a.much larger company than Roland/Cakewalk.
Maybe that doesnt make you happy, so  if you're leaving - goodbye.

I can understand Freddy´s position.
Working  daily with workarounds is no fun,
even to work for me with X2 is totally O.k ,
but I´m not a prof. and not working daily with it.

There have been a couple of posts from Ryan Munnis [Cakewalk] where he said the development team is quite busy. Admittedly this doesn't say what they are busy on but if I read it correctly they are actively working on Sonar.

Hard to tell what the road map for release is but if I were to hazard a guess I would say in the fall and X3.

Re:X2 A-Update--> 2012-18-12...2013-05-27 and still no new B update? May 27, 13 11:33 AM (permalink)
Cubase 7 was released about the same time as X2 and
has had 4 updates...7.04 is the current version.

Digital Performer 8 for Windows has ALREADY had 4 bug fixes...
and it just shipped a month or so ago..

Steinberg and MOTU listen, and repair problems in a timely and efficient manner,
as does Presonus, ImageLine, Reaper, etc...

Cakewalk has basically gone AWOL because of the Roland invasion.

They've been off the forum for the most part and been conspicuously silent
with regards to bug fixes.

It may be that Roland is "shaking the tree" to get rid of the "loose fruit"...
one can only hope...

And maybe, just maybe, the Roland team will kick the "All seeing, all knowing" Cake team
square in the pants, so they FINALLY bring their software up to meet where just
about every other DAW in the market IS already...i.e. VST3 Support, VST Expression,
better scoring, better MIDI editing, etc...

Giving us "new 3rd Party" vst's does not an upgrade make...
and yes, I know they did SOME improvements, but, for the most
part, X2 was in many ways a step in the wrong direction (don't scream at me,
I'm entitled to my opinion)  It was buggy from the onset, and the X2a update
did alleviate some of the strain, but there are still a plethora of issues for
users.

Every DAW has problems, that's a given, as writing a software program is
a tedious and complex task, but given the number of "others" out there that
are

A) getting it done quicker, better, and more efficiently
B) giving the customer what the CUSTOMER wants, not what the Development Team THINKS the customer should have.
C) instituting current technology ASAP, and NOT holding out till the absolute FINAL HOUR to get it done.

Sonar, to me, workflow and interface wise, is THE ABSOLUTE BEST DAW....HANDS DOWN.
It is, however, NOT the best DAW for working professionals who rely HEAVILY on their systems
and current technological trends to get their work done - far from it.

And NOW that PT has finally made the leap to 64 bit, the DAW world is on notice.
If you really WANT to dethrone the KING, you better bring your AAA game to the table...IJS...

I think that the most frustrating part of all of this is the complete lack of communication from Cakewalk. We've all invested in their company and product.

If there was at least something to look forward to...

@cclarry, and anyone else - please create threads for any issues you may be experiencing, so that we in the forum can try to assist you.

Without that, nobody can do anything to help.

That is the extent of my involvement with this thread.

I planned on upgrading to X2 very soon; but there seems to be many people here that are very unhappy with it, so the best thing is to wait.  I like to wait a bit when something new comes out so they can have the fixes, and less hassle being a tester.  But maybe I will skip on X2 since there seems to be uncertainty about the future of the company.

there always will be critical people, many basing their criticisms on valid reasons (for them).

that withstanding, Sonar X2 works really well and is a complete creative joy to use.  I recommend it highly.

Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

I for one find myself very disturbed at the severely broken ties between the Cakewalk team and the public/forums in the last number of months...

Of course they're busy working on it as that's what they do! When/what are they next giving us is the mystery...

Tho I professionally work with X2a every day, I'm sure my attitude in front of clients is not making Cakewalk look god as I continue to get derailed by the many bugs and poor (recent) design changes...

Other software a may have had more updates, but then again Abe they were that much buggier? Hard to say. I don't refer to make this a competition tho I realize that is involved in all business/choice making...

I was not happy with X1 but at east the team was in regular contact with us (Brandon/Seth/Robin) and ther were so welcome fixes in X2... But alas ther were also some serious setbacks (Lanes/Zoom) which are plaguing my work and attitude...

I know that there has been some posts from a few of The Bakers, but few, far between and carrying very little actual info...

So? Here's hoping for a big wonderful surprise when the new Roland incarnation of Team soon fulfills our needs!

I for one can completely understand why there are so many X1b threads. It is the devs total reluctance to announce any news regarding an update when it's quite clear that the customers demand to know what exactly is going on, is growing by the week.
I believe this is bad business for two reasons.
Knowingly ignoring unrest amongst your current user base is a dangerous game to play given the amount of serious competition out there.
Anyone stumbling on these forums with a view to buying sonar will quite obviously be concerned by the apparent lack of developer support.

Its also not inconceivable that there are some issues within X2 that need major work and as such need time to resolve properly. I am hoping that Roland recognise what's needed to turn this otherwise superb DAW into a product that's at least partially moulded by the comments of their loyal fan base who in my opinion have ignored some of the largest and longest standing requests without explanation. That of course is their right.
The bottom line is that they could turn the negative X1b threads into positive ones with just one simple statement, regardless of time frame.

I for one am very happy with x2a / been really productive with it.
with that being said, I understand there reasons for not explaining future plans to us but...and I say but...
there is a big lack of communication with the users here on the forum and cakewalk right now they may become damaging and I only hope they release a thread soon with some sort of direction.
not an actual list of upcoming releases, but an idea on the direction there heading to.

Anyhow I think that this long waiting for X2b is a very good sighn.
You know why ?
Because I think that they are catching the big points in updating like Vst 3 ,stability on nearly every PC aso.

But I can understand everyone who  supposses me to be to positiv.

This I can "+1".   As one (of many) who are getting along quite alright with X2a, I don't have a dire need for X2b.   However, some word relating to the future of SONAR might be a way to at least stop the conspiracy theories that CW has been assimilated and are all Roland borgs now.  Assuming that's not true, of course.

It's slippery slope though, given the nature of this forum and its ability to twist and turn nothing into something.   Maybe that's why the CW folks are quiet...  or is it.

DP8 released a month ago. It was unstable and I gave up . But Motu release 2 patch as soon as possible (in two weeks) and DP8 is now almost rock solid on my computer. No i wont move to DP, i can not live without smart tool and ProChannel anymore  but i can say that it is more stable than Sonar now.. They programmed DP8 from zero for Windows and it is more stable... sad...

Re:X2 A-Update--> 2012-18-12...2013-05-27 and still no new B update? May 28, 13 10:56 AM (permalink)
Jackdied

DP8 released a month ago. It was unstable and I gave up . But Motu release 2 patch as soon as possible (in two weeks) and DP8 is now almost rock solid on my computer.
Glad to hear it's now stable on your system.

As I've mentioned before, the last time I experienced such an obvious lack of interest from Roland was just before they dropped the VS2480.  Is this a sign of something terrible to come...like dropping SONAR from their product line?

If someone else picked them up, it may be the best thing that could happen for us.

A couple of Cakewalk reps have been active on the MC6 forums this last week. I wonder why they haven't come to their flagship forum?

Sonar X3; Sonar X2a Essential; Music Creator 6

Windows 7 Professional  (64-bit)
ASUS M5A97 EVO R2; 8Gb DDR3 1866 Vengeance RAM; AMD FX 6300 CPU
