I don't like that I don't actually own the software I'm paying for in subscription based programs.

I feel the survey was quite skewed. I answered the questions honestly without becoming rabid about the idea of subscription based systems, but that does not mean I am in support of it. However, it didn't really give the option to say in those specific areas about subscription based systems "I do not like and would not buy a subscription based product".

I get subscriptions to things like Netflix (which I fail to see how a movie rental house can be compared to a DAW), Amazon Prime (again, not even relevant), and Microsoft Office. That being said, the reason I pay monthly for Office is because A: they are the best option in the market of office programs (Open Office is nice but nowhere near MS Office), B: they are constantly updating it and putting millions of dollars into development every year and C: they give me 1TB of cloud storage along with my subscription.

Sadly, if Sonar goes subscription, I will find somewhere else to put my money.

Nobody "owns" their software, they "own" a licence to use that software... I would expect that, after a given period, the user could cancel the sub yet continue to use the last version covered by the sub, assuming the codebase doesn't disappear off the hard drive and into the cloud... It's an interesting topic, monetization of digital goods

I got Craig Anderton's book called " The Guitarist's Guide To Sonar". It came in the mail today...I had to pay out of pocket for shipping, but that's okay, this looks like a really cool book for guitarists. It goes over interfaces, effects, and general usage of Sonar...lot's of tips and tricks too. Nice explanation of the Sonitus effects..and how to use them properly....a lot of the stuff I already know, but I've already found things I don't....either or, I think it's a great book to add to my collection in exchange for a few minutes filling out a survey !! Thanks Cakewalk !!

the irony being, the eternal upgrade path IS a subscription in all but name

The current upgrade path does keep revenue coming in on a consistent basis but upgrade decisions are left up to the end user. Subscription based could mean that your software is rendered useless if your subscription lapses.

Awesome!!!

I really like the fact that this survey had actual questions and provided a place for those surveyed to submit actual answers. It seems as if someone actually wants to learn what customers are thinking. Well done!!!

i really dont mine being a beta tester for any daw or plugin softwear i quite enjoy it,altho i will not pay a monthly subscription to be a guinea pig.if sonar goes subscription they wont get any more of my money period, and ill just use x3e until its totally outdated and ill find a more suitable option, which is heartbreaking because i love sonar it has everything my other daw lacks and together there awesome, atleast my other daw is lifetime free updates and i didnt pay as much for there producer edition as with sonar studio :P

as for what i got with my voucher,i got prochannel stuff vkfx wah, delay, and amp.i thought id be happier with the wah but its to soon to tell,i like the delay nice tape sound happening there and loving the amp,so nice with poizone XD

I was glad to take the survey and get a chance to express some of the things I like about SONAR.

I used my voucher to get Pyro Audio Creator and the SWA Complete SONAR 8.5 video HD, even though I have X3. I never had a tutorial video for SONAR 8.5, and I already have SONAR X3 Explained. :)

Thanks Cakewalk.

I honestly couldn't find anything that I wanted or needed (not unless it involved shelling out extra cash) so I happily passed. Didn't mind filling out the survey though, it was five minutes I probably would have just spent scratching myself anyway.

Lawp..the comparison of annual upgrade is not quite the same. The key difference being that once you unsubscribe you can no longer use at all ( if we are gone jg by adobe model). I do give cakewalk props for offering area to type comments even if the question was loaded. I imagine they got an earful, based on the comments flooding several threads.

It look like I am alone with the feeling it is not about SONAR, but for something else...
With X2 there was a Club. Something new every two months. That time it was "free". May be they just want to test how many users are ready to pay several dollars per month for "something"?

I think Cakewalk is well aware that many (semi)profi  are stand-alone and for home users current flexible License schema is one of the major attraction points.

Thanks for the heads up.  I wasn't thrilled to see all the questions related to subscriptions as I will never buy a subscription based product.  Hopefully enough of us let it be known that we don't like the idea.  But then, all you immediate upgraders are more or less already subscribed.

I was happy to get three videos for free though.  Thank you Cakewalk.  I get to sing along with Karl's great voice one more time.

I put my voucher toward three VKFX Modules (Delay; Wah; Compressor), made even sweeter by the fact that they're already on offer at just over half price at the moment

Mind you, being the forgetful pillock I am, it wasn't until I came to install the Delay Module that I realised I'd already bought it about 18 months ago ..... D'oh!!

I've sent an email to Customer Support to see if they can swap one of my serials for another VKFX module.

Wasn't the delay part of the Content Club or something?

I opted in for that, even though I doubt they'll phone the UK?

Mind you, it would be really cool if they did extend the phone surveys to encompass at least a few global customers though, and not just limit the responses to the home market.
