Thanks, Mystic - I REALLY mean to try that out (and thanks for clarifying how to do the save), when time permits. If I can get that to work like that, then I will most likely choose to use that approach, as it would cut down on instances of Kontakt 5, which lessens the Sonar memory footprint, making my computer happier, and spreading joy throughout the land. (Sorry, got carried away a bit at the end). I DO like the memory savings of that - so I will post back when I get a chance to try it out. The sections hybrid approach sounds pretty mentally useful - I always give instrument its own audio track, and suggest you think of trying to organize it that way - and creating sections through track folders and grouped faders and such. I think that would maybe give you a bit more finite control over relative balance within a given section - just a thought. Bob Bone

Presets/batch configuration > save current output section state as default for > vstplugin(16 out) That is the missing link! After doing this it works perfectly - even my old Track Template is OK now! there is no downside to spending 5mins clearing up the output routing confusion :) I have spent a whole lot more than that, during the last year and a half, trying to work this out. I must have tried every combination of things *except* the right one - and I don't think I ever saved as a default (probably because it never looked right) In your earlier post, I thought you said to remember to save the SONAR Track Template - that's why I missed this. Thanks for persevering with this Mystic - you're a star!

LISTEN UP PEOPLE! Kontakt 5 has total 64ch of streaming audio to configuration. That makes it total 32ch of Stereo routed to--> 28ch Stereo OUT and 4ch of AUX from KONTAKT 5. You can use any VST- version or STANDALONE to config/ setup “any version” any channel routing and you can save different setups/configs for both STAND ALONE –version and any VST-I version RTAS. How is this done? 1. Go to OUTPUTs Section inside Kontakt. 2. Make and add as many channels you want. 3. When you done go to the OUTPUTs Section of Kontakt top Left menu--> Save current output section state as default for------> XXXXXX (your choice) (Working in DAW VST-I setup and you can’t see all the 64channel inside until you “save”-Config”. You need to restart/reload Kontakt 5 to get more/all that channels) Hope it helps!

Freddie H CURTSONG I have double checked it. If you make outputs configuration correctly and save it SONAR X2 will work just fine with KONTAKT 5. I have checked what you describe and what is shown in the video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLmskrQgEa8&feature=youtu.be LISTEN UP PEOPLE FREDDIE! Scott is already back to making music as this issue was resolved before your first post.. If you had followed the thread you will see the fix was post #4, confirmation of bug removal post #10 and video showing its fix post #30... everything else has been discussion and clarification .....it really is not necessary to write posts in huge capital letters.

IIRC, Kontakt requests that you exit Kontakt after adding/removing output channels. In the past (prior to output presets), I would change the outputs as needed and save as the default output assignment. Then I'd remove that instance of Kontakt. Now, reload Kontakt... and all should be good. I think the issue stems from adding/removing Kontakt I/O on-the-fly.

Yes I know, after I post it! But did you know that it were 64 channels? Great, now it should be crystal clear how to do it! I simply dont understand where you are coming from, and right now i dont care.. you clearly didnt even bother reading the thread before launching into your view of the situation.. had you bothered to check, and feel free to read this thread before any reply, the stated problem was confusion on output assignments of the kontakt 16 out VST, which if you start from the default output assignments of kontakt is indeed erratic.. this was the stated issue and confirmed by others... There is just not a simple correlation between what you would expect (st1-st8) and what you see. By disconnecting the aux outputs and reassigning them in the kontakt 16 out VST as i described you get exactly what you would expect... 8 stereo outs. this as a permanent resolution to the issue with the 16 out vst was also confirmed by others. And yes, yes, Yes Freddie i know that Kontakt (not Kontakt 8 out, or Kontakt 16 out) has 64 possible channels..a fact that has absolutely nothing to do with either the stated issue or its resolution... and I dont doubt your knowledge on the topic, but unless it is applied directly to the issue at hand it really can simply confuse rather than help... after all, Kontakt (16 out) does NOT have 64 outputs...and that is what the question was about.. understand now?..

Hello Robert I am a new users to Komplet 10 and Kontakt 5. I am focusing on learning how to use Kontakt 5 the way you explained it below. Is this still the preferred method for using more than one instrument in Kontakt and assigning them tracks in Sonar? robert_e_bone I have been a long-time NI user and have Kontakt 5 currently running -x64.
I use multiple instruments in Kontakt all the time, but I reset all of the output channels using that batch function to clear the output section and recreate channels with 1 stereo channel for each loaded instrument. I then rename them to match easy to read output channel names, like PIano, Bass, Organ, etc. That makes for easier reading at a glance for me back in the assignments in the console. Also, when I insert Kontakt 5 into the rack, I do NOT tall Sonar to create tracks for all of the outputs supported by K 5. Instead, I manually insert 1 pair or tracks for each loaded instrument, 1 audio and 1 midi, so that they are ordered like: T1 - Audio T2 - Midi T3 - Audio T4 - Midi And then each is paired appropriately associated with each of the instruments. I do it this way because I like to that kind of order. The process would certainly be quicker if I just told it to do it on insert of K 5, but it's really not a big deal to do time-wise. In addition, everything is nicely named for me, which helps out a lot, and doing the above is a one-time deal per project. I NEVER have problems with any outputs getting mixed up, or accidentally leave a bunch of unused tracks that got inserted just because the instrument supports having them. Give it a try - I think you will find it a reasonable outcome for a reasonable amount of time, with zero problems stemming from doing it that way. Bob Bone

Actually I've learned quite I bit that I've usually glossed over as I become more glassy eyes but now I understand. Anyone up for writing up the definitive Kontakt in Sonar tutorial including Bib Hines tutorial from another thread and all the relevant info from this thread, then I'll place a brief note and link to my Utilities thread which is a sticky in the Software forum and start extending that thread to include tips and tutorials. I'll plod away at it but could use the help. To me the process is one of having to follow the tutorial. That's OK for checking out the intelligibility and logical process of the instructions. But it would be better written by someone for whom the whole process is fluid and natural so to speak. Here's some references. Http://forum.cakewalk.com/find post/3030422 the thread with bobs tutorial and other info scattered throughout. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1u6dWL-32jI Video by Seth Perlstein formerly of Cakewalk inc. PS if folks have other tutorials on Sonar related subjects get them to me. We have the power of a sticky thread in the Software forum that we can add info too. I'll keep that organised so even if you post in that thread or send me a PM.
