The sonitus suite is a nice suite of FX, I got it when I upgraded Sonar 2 to Sonar 5 studio. To be honest I upgraded just to get the FX. Its a fantastic suite of software and this is worth it in anyones book. Strange thing is, given the choice I go for the P5 plug ins most of the time. Id still much rather have the sonitus to hand though, there are occassions I much prefer to use them. In particular I find the EQ and compressor to be quite transparent.

It is indeed a very nice set of processors. For P5 users it's worth having for the E.Q alone.

Oh and the Compressor, hang on, not to forget the multiband compressor !

I wonder if P5 will get a multiband compressor in this release?

The Sonitus is a good buy. Cleaner and more flexible than the P5 suite.

I would bet 50/50 that Sonitus effects come with the next pay incarnation of P5. After all, SONAR got the synths; what is Cake going to do to upgrade P5v3? There is adding Session 2, and maybe another René synth (cross your fingers for luck), but what other virutal hardware is there to add?

I use the sonitus plugs on every song. Like others, I upgraded to the PE version of sonar a while back just to get these plugs. I use them for mastering. If you buy them alone, they're cheaper than other comparable plugs like ozone.

Ozone and Sonitus are completely different though. Ozone has vintage modelling that puts it a good bit ahead of Sonitus IMO. However once again Ill say that there are situations for using either.

Has anyone gotten the suite through the promo? I'm being asked for a serial number during the install but I was not provided one. I emailed Cakewalk about it but, in the meantime, I was just wondering if anyone had the same problem.

Yes, and it confused me as well. In the past Cake have always emailed the serial number.

SOLUTION: You will created an account when you ordered. If you go back to the "shop" (purchase) and "Sign In" you should find a list of all your registrations with their serial numbers. If they aren't displayed click on "My Registrations" in the navigator on the left. Just cut and paste to the installation window.

    Problem solved, for free!

I contemplated getting in on the group buy, but it's hard to pony up for effects I already own...and with the DXRack you can use the DX Sonitus fx in Live no problem, so I passed. Sonitus is a solid set of "bread and butter" effects, definitely good to have in the toolbox, and it's my go-to EQ. The Reverb and Delay are fine too, though there are more inspiring delays out there, and many people (myself included) find the Compressors lack character and don't give that "professional sheen" that higher end comps give. The Multiband is nice for gentle mastering, though fairly tame compared to what Ozone or the WaveArts multis can do.

...just some of my observations, ymmv...

Edit: I should say the Sonitus EQ is my go-to in Sonar, but in Live I find EQ Eight to be just as good. In fact, I find Live's effects darn good overall, and really haven't missed Sonitus all that much when working in Live. Since I've been keeping the mixing/mastering duties to Sonar, the lack of a multi-band hasn't been an issue...and even then, SSL's C3 Multiband is awesome and free, so there you go!

No tempo sync though, which kinda messes certain things up with the delay plugin. I read somewhere that the VST versions were also installed with Sonar and that you just needed to move the .dll files into you VST directory in order to use them....had a go a long time back and didn't succeed myself, but I may try again sometime.

Interesting about the tempo-sync, that would indeed be bad for the delay! Honestly even though I have the dxrack, I hardly ever use it in Live as I like the built-in effects for the most part.

I just got an email from Cake stating that the "group buy" has now become a standard offer of $79 till the end of the month. I'm still on the fence about it, but it would be nice to have the vst's... Which reminds me, all that talk of the vst versions being available in Sonar 3, just move the .dll's is a crock o' shyte! I tried every possible thing I could to make it work, and no luck.

If anyone knows the secret - for real - I'm all ears, but otherwise it's a myth afaic!

    Update:

Well, color me sucker but I broke down and bought them last night. Probably a bit of a waste of money, but it is cool having them native in Live, and I guess now that I have them as vst's I'll be able to use them in any program I might use down the road...that was the justification to myself anyways!

Although the only new program I've been checking out is Reaper, and it reads dx natively so I already had Sonitus in there...oh well, I don't mind supporting Cakewalk!

Hate to say it at this point, Jamester, but all I did was point the (newest) VST Adapter to the Shared Plugins folder, in addition to my VST structure. Not sure about this working for S6. The downside is that I only get seven out of ten to go VST. The Multiband, Equalizer, and single band Compresser didn't make the jump.

That tempo bug: hasn't this been around forever? I'm so used to the workaround that I do it automatically. Cycle-click from Host to Manual to Off, and back again, and the Tempo Delay catches the beat. It's asleep at the wheel; occasionally I have to cycle through twice.

I'll tell you what, I spent a couple nights trying every possible way...it's wierd cuz they're sitting right there, but when I would put them into either vst folder they would not show up in Sonar. The adapter would scan them and eveything, but they'd never show up.

Now with you saying that for some reason the compressors and EQ wouldn't work but the others would...obviously there's something screwy about the whole thing! So given that, I really don't mind spending the nominal money for both the versatility and the peace of mind, cuz these work perfectly!

I've heard people say they included the VST versions on the Sonar 3.0 discs. I upgraded late in that cycle, so my copy is 3.1 which did not include the VST versions.
