Thanks Jerry. As usual you’re the only one who has really contributed to a reasoned view of Sonars notation capabilities and seem to be able to make excellent use of it. Your music is well received and that you do it using Sonar shows your willingness to work with what you have and not complain about what you don’t have. Notation shortcut comings are well documented in this forum and have been for years. I know your contributions to the improvement of Sonars notation editor have been quite considerable over the years and despite little progress you persist.

Just want to say thanks for all your efforts and especially for all the great music.

For everyone who uses Staff View: try Reaper. A great and improving notation editor. I made the switch a couple years ago, and I love it. I have a quick workflow. Their forum is as good as this one.

Thanks Michael for the Reaper suggestion.  I really haven't tried out any other DAWs but might be time to do some testing.

Everyone seems excited by Studio One - but sounds like I shouldn't be buying it for the staff view
Having some form of staff view, even the Solar X/Plat clunky version, is a must for me.
I do have Notion but the thought of only making it work by Rewire seems flaky at best.

Otherwise I'm guessing time to demo/try Cubase (and Reaper as suggested)

My exact sentiment. I have yet to understand what the supposed enhanced integration between Notion and Studio One offers compared with just rewiring Notion into SONAR. Rewire is a poor substitute for an in-built staff view EDITOR. Pretty notation can be done in lots of ways after the notes are entered/edited.
Reaper is so difficult to get around I have all but given up on it, though it seems it can do ANYTHING. I will have to try Cubase again and maybe take another look at Digital Performer.

If you go with Cubase, you need the Pro version. Artitst and the rest have an inferior notation editor, where you can only have 4 measures in the view, and  you cannot scroll through (which means you can't select a phrase longer than 4 bars).

I find the company and forum to not be very responsive. With Reaper, you'll have a large and enthusiastic forum, much like Sonar's. I consider them to be the two best such forums around. you'll get plenty of help, both from members but also from the devs, if you ask them.

Does anyone know much about Mixcraft's notation editor? I watched their tutorial on it, but they only showed one instrument in the view. If you can't have multiple inst's in view, it would be pretty useless. With Reaper, I can have the entire orchestra up. I can scroll up or down, left or right, infinitely. I can select a passage that's 12 bars long if I want to. In short, it's extremely functional. I keep the notation view open, it's my main window. Another thing, if you work in Event List, Reaper's is exactly the same as Sonar's.
