Thanks - I am near Washington, DC, and it's going to get pretty wet here.  The storm looks like it will hit just a little North of me, maybe 60-100 miles, but it won't really matter, because the wind will affect things all the way to Chicago.

I will get 60 mph winds for a while tomorrow, and quite a bit of rain.

I am planning on staying inside and working up a version of "The Rain Song" by Led Zeppelin, in the spirit of the storm.

My business here in New York is basically shut down for a day because none of my employees are going to make it in due to all public transport being canceled, so I'm not happy about that. I'm weary after last year's Hurricane Irene hysteria, where the New York media pumped it up so much that people were panic buying canned foods and bread and taping their windows up, even as reports from down south were saying that it wasn't so bad and that it would downgrade a lot by the time it reached NYC. I suspect the same thing will happen with Sandy. We'll get some heavy rain and a bit of wind and that will be it.

Long Island here. Got my eye on the water. Not so much the wind. Full moon-high tide + storm surge + very heavy, sustained rain.

I'm a little further north but we're getting some warnings here. I think I'm gonna have to cancel an appointment on tuesday because I can already feel the bad weather sinking into my bones and joints. They'd better not charge me a cancellation fee.

And yeah... stay safe dudes and dudettes.

Thanks! Yep, in the CT area here and we're getting warnings, but hoping most of the heavy stuff will miss us.

I hate it when the power goes because then I can't get any work done!

I tell you what, the weather kicks ass here compared to my life in Britain. I know everyone complains about the weather there, but over a decade living in the US and I've come to realize just how mild Britain is in comparison. Warmer winters, cooler summers, barely anything "extreme." American storms are still very exciting to me. And I know it's wrong, but I was kind of disappointed when Irene fizzled out for New York last year. Was hoping for some overturned cars at least, maybe even some Mary Poppins' flying around. Yes it's sick but I'm cheering Sandy on. I want New York to take a good thrashing.

Theres a few here in the uk who may disagree this past couple of years, especially this year, who's homes have been flooded. But ordinarily you are right, but we've had some very weird weather these past two years droughts then floods, bonkers!

I was in London a couple of days after the only hurricane in centuries hit the south east English coast 25 years ago. An experience that that makes me eternally grateful that while we might have rotten summers, endless rain, floods etc. at least we're generally spared that kind of extreme weather.

Not to mention my Louisiana friends' accounts of Katrina.

Psssh!  We get a FREE street cleaning with this rain, AND nobody will have any more leaves to rake.  :)

Plus, if it DOES land in Jersey, will anyone really be able to tell the difference?  :)

(I am actually planning for several days with no power here near DC, although I am hoping that since I live right along a business strip that I WILL have power, and will be able to knock out a bunch of recording while everyone leaves me alone to work).

Thanks to all for wishing us good luck through what looks to be quite the deluge.

Northern NJ here. Right in the path (so they say).

Luckily I'm on a hill and above the street level so I watch the water rush past my driveway without worrying about flooding. Trees, on the other hand, make me very nervous. There is a row of pines on one side of the house and a mighty oak on the other, all quite capable of doing major damage. Not much to do except hope for the best.
We lost power from Irene last year in August for 4 days. That was a piece of cake for us- moderate temps, cooking on the grill, light until 8:00. (Unfortunately, the center of a nearby town was completely flooded. The businesses just got back on their feet early this year. This storm could completely ruin many of them.)

Exactly a year ago we were hit by a freak early snow storm which brought down trees and branches. We lost power for 5 days. That was a lot worse for us- it was cold and got dark at 5:00. We used the fireplace to keep warm but that got old pretty fast. We had just decided to go and stay with my mom when the power came back on.  We're going to try to brave it again this time - moved the firewood to the porch just in case.

Yes, it should be lots o fun!

I'm at the western end of lake Ontario. Imagine my surprise when I looked at the weather and found a tropical storm warning. That's the first time in my life I've ever seen that. Strange days indeed.

I just got a little wind Friday as it passed by as I'm on the west coast of Florida.  I have relatives in the Harrisburg, Pa area and they are all planning for the storm reaching in that far.  My brother stopped at a grocery store this morning and he said the shelves are bare.

    Thanks all for your concern.
I’m in upper western New York State. It has rained continually now for two days and with 5 more days of rain and high winds projected we are worried that many trees will come down.

We are all sitting tight for the next few days!

I guess I'm more worried about the Canary Islands exploding and falling into the sea. I'm halfway between Boston, MA and Providence, RI. As long as it doesn't snow I'm happy.

I'm located in southeast Pennsylvania, between Philadelphia and Lancaster. So as far as predictions go, pretty much in middle of Sandy's path...   Fortunately we're not located near any creeks or other bodies of water, and have no large trees near our house.  But I do expect to be without power for at least a day or two...   Loads of fun.

@ sharke, the excitement of the storm is definitely cool, but water damage sucks. many people in the low lying areas near the ocean are gonna get 3, 4, even 5 feet of salt water in their houses. two weeks from now there will be 3inch, hairy mold all over everything and those houses will be deemed uninhabitable until it's all removed by guys in white suits and masks. even then, the place is shot.

South Jersey here...darned thing is coming right for me. At least you guys won't be reading my novels for a while as we'll probably lose power for a week. Best of luck to any of you that will be experiencing the effects of this storm. Try to stay safe.
