What I saw : "Janet Playing the Piano, a very nice video performance, although I like the other video where she rescues the music script and saves the day better by becoming a super hero and finishing the song on the video performance". I know Janet, you said you weren't, but that's the way I saw it anyway. What I heard : "Janet set the piano on fire like Jerry Lee Lewis with her skills, she danced around it and done a wood chopping move on the keys that just plain sounded AWESOME!". In all seriousness, this was great to hear ya play Janet, people who play music understand how hard it is to play a real piano, a lot of the younger generation doesn't understand because they grew up with keyboards and easier instruments. This is AWESOME!!!!!!! I really liked the recording quality, not sure what your other reviewers have to say, sorry I'm late to the party, I had a few problems getting here. No complaints here, just a simple THANK YOU for posting because I enjoyed hearing and watching this very much!!!! Bobby

Janet, Very nice job on a challenging piece. That's an impressive instrument you have there. Have you ever tried using a nice mic to record the piano in the vid? I know you have an electric that you use on most of your recordings. Just curious. I enjoyed the performance.

Thank you Frank, Kenny and Mike. :) Thank you Julianna. Most of us could never sing like you in a million years either. :) Thanks JC. Yes, I'm quite tickled with my son's new fancy camera. I was even able to edit it myself with Windows Movie Maker, which sure makes things easy! (clipped the beginning stuff off..) And I don't remember breathing...had to concentrate too hard. I have no idea how Jon makes it look so fun and easy! LOL Glad you liked it, Bobby! Jim, I have no idea. I often think I'll be less busy at certain times and then I'm not. I do want to catch up on the latest songs on here in a few days, once things settle down from school letting out, etc. Thank you, Tim! Thanks Bruce. Yes, I love that little piano. It's at the church I attend. I would love to try to record this in Sonar and then sync the video but to tell you the truth I have no idea how to sync it. Maybe some day.

hi Janet, syncing up audio w a video is not really all that hard to do open up a new project in SONAR , import your video you will then have the audio track & a video track if you want to play along & come up with a better audio track to your vid , when you like what you did , you can always mute the old audio & import the video out of SONAR w the new audio track or tracks another way to have more control over the audio end of a video is to record your audio separately in SONAR w mics or direct , if that option is not available you can use whatever you might have on hand or can borrow for a try out ...maybe a Zoom , a small hand held w stereo mics , a mini disc or you can do a direct line out from the keyboard separately from the camera mic , or the house mains for a direct sound years ago the church i used to play at always recorded the music off the board w those ...just import the audio file into the SONAR project that has the vid to sync up audio that has been recorded outside of the camera it always helps to give your self a visual & an audio cue a snap or a clap will do wonders ...to line the audio files up .. a worst case scenario example ..i've had my recorder on recording everything for god knows how long while adjusting the visual end of things .. having that clap as a cue made it easy to delete all the fluff & dead space on my audio track ...to sync things up last but not least , you can also get some extra mileage out of your video or future vids if you have good video editing software for example you could do a studio version of this tune and get the audio as perfect as you can w the video software you can open up a project , put your best audio mix in then take excerpts of your performance in the video from your church & mix that w photo's , other videos of family , friends or scenery ..... sky's the limit on that one Kenny PS , after writing this whole long post i came back to find out if you even put your video in SONAR lol fwiw....that camera mic sounds pretty good SONAR is pretty decent for doctoring up the sound on videos as long as your video is already edited visually...cant edit the video end of things in SONAR ( at least w my 6 PE ) i've had friends that sent me videos that were marginal on the audio end of things I imported the vid into SONAR , eq ed and used a few plugs to improve what was already there w the audio ... if you haven't done that yet to your vid ...that is the easiest way too get some chops w vids in SONAR ....

Thanks for the great tips, Kenny. I really appreciate that and might even give it a whirl. I actually thought of trying to record it through the sound system onto a computer, but I remember reading about how hard it is to mic a piano and wasn't up to trying that out right now. I should read more about it and give it a try some day. I appreciate all the ideas! Thanks Mark. Yeah, memorizing that baby took months but it's sure easier to play it when you don't have to follow along with the notes and keep flipping page after page. :) Of course, then there's the chance you'll forget what to play next, which I did. lol

sounds good, but to offer some constructive critisizm.... if you could capture better audio, would make a world of difference. Camera mics are OK for documenting, but a couple of mics into Sonar, sync'd with the video would put this over the top. I've got a video I just put up to illustrate that (if you can stand the music!). I had Sonar backing tracks and recorded INTO Sonar while filming. Then I could easily sync things up and also deal with the audio as needed. Watch the timing too. Seems to speed up and down in places, unintentionally.

Thanks Steve. :) Thanks Mixmkr. I may consider playing this on my DAW and trying to line it up with the video. We'll see if I can find the time. And yes, it definitely speeds up. As I said earlier, I spent a week playing it with the metronome to get it under control, but it ended up being too close to the deadline and the metronome was just messing with my mind. I may keep working on it now that there's no pressure. :)

Nice playing Janet. A lot going on and keeping a constant rythm (and energy) with left hand all the way through. You played right through the modulation - with a lot more black keys I imagine - without a hitch. Congradulations! Keep up the good work!

Thanks Tony. Yes, it's real. Could be better, but it's real. :) Thanks Geno. Yeah, I love the energy of this song. You'll have to watch HIM play it...he's much more fun to watch. Maybe if I get better at it I'll get a little more lively. :) Funny you should mention that modulation. When I write a song, or play from a chord sheet, I'm thinking of chords. When I'm playing with music, I rarely think of what key I'm in or what the chords are. It took me awhile to even notice that abrupt modulation and that all of a sudden I'm playing on almost all black keys (5 flats.) But actually it was almost easier that way cause you don't 'run into' black keys if you're playing them all the time. :) Thanks Matt. You should. I'll bet you could do this in 5 years if you apply yourself. :) A tip-glass? Well, I could, but I doubt it would gather anything. :) Thanks Vicente. No kidding! lol

Janet Thanks Mixmkr. I may consider playing this on my DAW and trying to line it up with the video. Realize unless each performance is precisely identical, you'll need to record and film at the same time. "lip syncing" is especially tough with pieces like you're doing.

So true. I wouldn't hold my breath on this one. It was just a one-time performance that I wanted to catch on video. If I had all the time in the world, I'd try to perfect it. As it is, I can hardly get to my DAW these days...
