THIS is one reason I've not been around much...

End of school activities, etc., etc., AND trying to perfect this piece for my piano recital on Sunday evening.  I screwed it up during the recital, but this take later wasn't as bad.

'Road Trip' by John Schmidt....played by me

Wow, Janet's on Video. Well Done Janet. I didn't hear any boo boos or anything. And, each hand was doing something completely different than the other, which tends to make my eyeballs spin around in my head cause that's just cool.. I think it's perfected for Sunday. Nice work.

Hi Janet, I'm deeply impressed, this looks like a difficult piece to play. Love the way you play those bass notes. There are some quite virtuoso passages in this and you pulled those of with gusto, bravo ! This calls for an encore so please feel free to post more.

    Greetings, Rik

Very good Janet ! Nice piano , the microphone setup didn't do much for me but your piano playing sounded great !
Wish I could play like you , I get by with alittle of that and alittle of that but lacking in hand and fingering skills when I compare my skills with yours .

Outstanding video , great performance !

    Herb, not this time.

Thanks Tim.  Believe me, I had to work hard on some of those passages!

Thanks Rik.  Actually, this is one of his easier ones.  Still took me forever to memorize it though.  There are a two others on my youtube channel, and hopefully I can get the one from last year from my friend (who videoed it) soon.

Thanks James.  Yeah, I know there's a better way to record it (the audio), but that gets pretty technical.  I was just happy to get a decent camera for a change.  :)

Yes, it does Scott.  :(  I tried playing with a metronome for a couple weeks and I guess it didn't help.

very cool Janet. Looks a good workout. Will have to get some of his sheet music and have a go...my goal (one day!) is to be able to play Rachmaninov C#minor prelude perfectly, not in the kinda fumbly bumbly way i do now, and video that!

Sorry about your computer crash, Tom.  Ugh!  :(  Thanks for stopping by! :)

    Thanks again, Jim. :)

    Thanks Bob. :)

Thanks Mark.  This is one of his easier ones actually.  In case you don't know, you can download any of his sheet music for 99 cents.  There's also a bass and drums backing track for this one. I just didn't have the time to make it work together.  Anyway, I had a young man come and play after me and he did
#1 Rustles of Spring (Christian Sinding)
#2 Prelude in C sharp Minor Op. 3 No. 2 (Nicknamed “The Bells of Moscow”) Sergei V. Rachmaninoff
#3 Prelude in G Minor Op. 23 No. 5 Rachmaninoff Is the second one the one you mean?  He totally wowed and mesmerized all of us--it was just incredible!   If he posts them on youtube, I'll give you the link sometime.  Anyway, go for it.  It made my arms hurt just watching him.

Wow, that looked like a beast to play! I hadn't heard that one before, and I'll be downloading it after hearing it.

    Good job!

I tried to learn All Of Me a few months ago but gave up because I didn't have enough time to practice it.

His style of playing is so drastically different to what I play and write that it's almost like having to re-learn the piano from scratch again.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Cheers,
    Terry.

    Thank you John. :)

Thanks Phil.  I wish I had your singing and mixing skills. :)

Thanks Rick.  Yes, totally nuts.  It took an hour to settle them down before the last guy went. :)

Thanks Terry. Actually, it's not that hard.  I could play along with him after just a little practice.  Memorizing it and getting a couple tricky spots took awhile though.  All of Me is actually harder than this one.  I learned it 3 or 4 years ago, but didn't memorize it.  Not sure I can still play it now.  :(  Anyway, yeah, he's different but you could totally play any of his songs.  I've heard you play and you're better than me.  :)  This is the 4th one of his I've learned.  I really should break out and try something different.  (but I've got to REALLY love it as long as it takes me to memorize one!)

very cool Janet!  the sound is quite decent for a live recording of the grand.  how was it recorded?  what mics were used.  was it mic'd and sent to the amp sitting by the piano?  was that picked up from the camcorder? if so that was really great considering the signal chain!

excellent playing!!!!!!!  I didn't get a chance to watch/listen until today!  very nice!!!

Thanks Dave.  Actually, I messed it up during the performance...and acted VERY unprofessional and clapped my hands together and probably said 'phooey!' lol  So we videoed it again afterwards.  You get less sneezes and babies crying that way.  :)

Thanks Reece.  This is just my son's pro camera.  That's the best camera we've used so far and it looks like it paid off.
