What's the verdict? Is thing ready to install? Please consider I'll probably not use the standalone version initially.

What tricks do I need to perform to insure that:
a) I put my VST2 plugs in c:\Program Files\vstplugins
2) I do not want to loose V4 plugs in existing projects

bapu I only installed TR5 on my home PC so far. And I opened one project that had about three to four instances of TR4 in it. Each instance had at least 3-4 plugs in the rack and some had more. They were in FX bins and in PC FX Chains. All of them came up as the older version 4 TR. So no complications there. So far.

I still want to do so more testing to see if I will have conflicts because on my music PC I have instances of TR4 all over almost every project.

Although I can't attest to how it would work on different systems, on my 2 identically set up Windows 7 Lenovo laptops with Studio One, it worked perfectly with plugins landing where I would expect, and functioning well in version 4, 5 and in the case of the White and Black plugins, 3 as well. Standalone is also working correctly. The only issue I have at all is that the presets seem to take too long too load, almost like they are momentarily stuck. To install, all I did was download and run the basic TRacks-5 download in my account, using the "B" designated download. I did NOT do anything with the separate new custom shop download--the basic TRacks 5 download already has a custom shop update within it. When installing, it asked for where I wanted the plugins--I believe it already had listed, though, the right default for me--c-Program Files-vstplugins. After following all the prompts, I closed the installation. I then opened Custom Shop, hit Restore Gear under the TRacks tab-and that was it. YMMV

I didn't install the first version, but the 'B' version.

a) No tricks required
2) You wont/shouldn't, all fine here, you still have your V4 plugins same as before.

The only issue I have seen is the previously mentioned no line on the graph with Classic EQ and Linear Phase EQ in standalone version, this has been confirmed by others here and elsewhere. No issues here with load times or 'momentarily stuck' as mentioned above.

Welp...as usual I'm the odd man out.  I don't have my version 4 plugs anymore and  I still can't run TR5 standalone without resetting my display every time.  Dern.

And Microsoft still can't get my internet back after my Win 10 update.  They're bumping me up to "level 3" phone support this morning...whatever the heck that means.  We'll see.

And...just as I expected...no soup for me!  Microsoft Level 3 once again could not fix it so I'm rolled back to my previous Win10...which also means I'm stuck at Kontakt 5.2 as that's the latest update that doesn't kill Kontakt when instantiated.  But TR5 standalone still won't run...so there's that:-)

Bummer olpal ... I feel your pain.

On the other hand, you aren't missing much re: the standalone app.  It's a fiddly nightmare to get a layout that works, but the layout doesn't persist across sessions once you get it set and there is no way to save/recall layouts.  I've provided this info at the IKM forum, so time will tell.  They are really, really close, so I'm sure they'll get it sorted out.

In the mean time, I'll be preparing a project template to master with.  Hopefully IKM will work the standalone over sooner rather than later.

Really close!

I have been playing around with the SA app and it's not bad at all. But to really be an 'environment' to work in, it needs some improvements.

I like "really close" much more than "This is what it is, live with it". After that monster stepping up for ARC integration, I can't think of any reason not to be positive and look for their continued involvement. That ARC deal really showed me something.

I'm glad that attention to your requests and concerns has increased your confidence.  Maybe I'll share some of the insider experience of some things like the ARC integration etc over a beer (or a non-adult beverage for those that do not choose to partake) sometime :)  I will be in Boston (staying in Cambridge but there for some shows in Boston proper) in just over a week, I'd be happy to visit a certain company if they want to have me - or better yet any of you from the area who post here since this wave of positivism makes me feel confident I won't have to duck any punches

Let's all go see yorolpal and get some fantastic filet, grits, and Cabernet!

Edit - not discounting BobF's offer either, though.  Perhaps I should make this a "tour" - I'll start with you, Fleer, since I'm staying in Cambridge and we can go from there.  This is a vacation, though, so I'll have to bring a hotspot and do some work after the first few days or try to get an extension for the "UIKG Steak & Booze Tour 2017/2018".   Where's Lars located?  Dealtown, USA?  We'll have to swing by and pick him up.

Did a rather lengthy comparison of Ozone 8 A and T- Racks 5.
T-Racks won't be replacing O8A by any stretch.  It's a really good
product, so don't get me wrong.  If you only own T-Racks 5 it will
most certainly do the job and do it well, just not as well as O8A.

That being said, the new interface, new improved skins, new modules,
etc...are quite nice and worthy, so it's definitely a good upgrade from TR4.

That's my 2 cents worth...YMMV

Agree with Larry's assessment of TR5. I haven't used the standalone app, but I do like the new plugin GUIs, with a couple of exceptions: the 432 Mastering EQ and Tape Echo are too blurry-looking for my taste. Other than that, the modules look nice.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the reduction in CPU usage for several plugins, including the API EQs, the EQ 73, and SSL/Neve bus compressors. Oddly, on my system the EQ 81 is still pretty hungry but the 73 uses way less CPU than before. Sadly, the SSL channel strips are still too heavy on my system to use as a default processor on every channel of a mix.

I will be making more use of the APIs though -- they sound great and are now light enough to use everywhere. Anybody else seeing differences in resource usage between TR4 and TR5 plugins?

As for the new modules, I think they're pretty good:

My favorite is the Dyna-Mu, a fine emulation of the Manley Vari-Mu. I was hard pressed to tell the difference between it and the official UAD emulation, particularly at typical use settings where it's just giving a couple dBs of gain reduction on the master bus. This joins the T-RackS Precision and Bus Compressors (Neve and SSL models) as good choices for gluing your mix together.

EQual is a nice clean general-purpose EQ, very transparent -- beats the old Classic EQ hands down for usability. Gives Pro-Q2 a run for its money, perhaps even surpassing it soundwise, but it's tough to beat FabFilter's GUIs.

The One and Master Match are a little more hit-and-miss for me so far; sometimes I like what they do and sometimes I don't. Useful tools, anyway.

Overall, a worthwhile upgrade. Whether TR5 is preferable to Ozone is another matter -- I personally share the opinion that iZotope has a more advanced toolset, but there's a lot in T-RackS that is worth having. Now that more of the plugins are CPU-friendly, they're very useful in mixing as well as mastering. Ozone is not known for being easy on resources (but in a mastering context that's less of an issue). Both suites are excellent products.

Cheers,
Eddie
