I guess we're just going to wring our hands then?

Would each of you spend the equivalent of a Sonar upgrade to get drivers written?

I would....

Yes, I would certainly contribute.  This is the only thing stopping me from making the move to 64-bit.

Software: Cakewalk by Bandlab; Adobe Audition; Band-in-A-Box audiophile; Izotope Ozone; Encore; Melodyne; Win 10 Pro, 64-bit.

Hardware: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 2nd; Roland Integra-7; TCE Finalizer; Presonus Central Station, Behringer X-Touch.  Home built i7 with 16 GB RAM, SSDs.

I spend the cost of a full new version of Sonar Producer.

if it means that i will have working, STABLE drivers count me in, it would be a whole lot cheaper then going the RME+MCU route. It wouldnt shock me though if these chumps (tascam tech),wouldnt give up the code...we need something, and while others have stated that their machine works flawless, mine does not, and i want my 1200 bucks worth fixed!!!

Here's the problem, or perhaps the caveat...

There's no guarantee!

Let's say we find someone who has access to the code, maybe was involved in the Frontier Sonar Driver build (probably our best option), if we don't get working drivers we'll have gambled and lost. I for one thinks its worth a gamble, a FULL Sonar PE Retail gamble?
I'd want a pretty good resume from the code writer.

Hitman,
you running Win 7 64?

Matt (riojazz),
Everything works in Win 7 32?

Just my thoughts,

Tom

Tom, yes, everything works for me in Windows 7 32-bit.  I admit using only a subset of the FW-1884's functions so I wouldn't be able to state what might not work.  And, I do suffer a BSOD every month or so, and the culprit points back to my firewire audio setup, best I can figure from reading the dumps and what is on various threads on the web.  But, I would say I'm OK day to day.

I see this thread is back again... Kind of makes me sad to see you guys still fighting Tascam over this :(

I must say that I am not surprised... The contact at Frontier is Brian.. He is the guy that did so much to get involved with this back in the 6.2 days... Maybe he can help again

It sucks that Tascam Tech support is still the same Tascam Tech support... ultimately it is why I moved on but it's  a shame because the FW1884 is a wonderful peice of hardware...  just wish Tascam thought as much of it as we do!

No Tom, im currently on Vista 32, 64 wasn't too stable and it gave me too many problems, slowed work flow, and i still get a sluggish jog wheel when i rewire another app. i understand the gamble, it was a gamble buying the darn thing...lol

Dk i dont think we are fighting them, and trust me i want too!!! I just want what was promised, i may have to do what you did and move on...sigh.

To All Concerned,
I've started a thread Sonar Tascam-FW-1884 Users Group in the "Hardware" forum.

Hope to see you all there!

Hey Tom,

please see my post on your above-referenced thread.

The helpful guy at Frontier was indeed Brian. I remember exchanging e-mails with him (of course Tascam would not answer so I then contacted Frontier) to tell him about the problem experienced with Win 64 and memory above 4GB. At the time it was not clear that the memory had a crucial role. Then I've discovered that by limiting this to 3.2GB (memory remap option in the bios), the problem disappeared. I informed Brian but in the meatime discovered that other manufacturer shared he similar issue, like  MOTU for example but they reacted rather quickly and upgraded their driver. Frontier could not do it until TASCAM was asking to do so... and it took TASCAM a long time! Fortunately, the guys at Frontier were already working...
Sorry for the long story, but bottom line is: upgrade to drivers 1.7. And if you want to further upgrade the drivers I'd think that 1.70 is a good basis, and that you should not wait for Tascam to do something, while Frontier may help.

All the best.

Everyone seems to get different results.  For me, after much too much trial and error ... I can only use driver 1.50, Sonar driver 1.22, and WDM driver mode.  Even this is not perfect but any other combo is unreliable in some unacceptable way.
