Templates in New Project File box frustration

On trying to open a new project I am offered only "Normal" as a template option - the others have disappeared from view. It offers me --Blank Project --, --Play List Set -- and Normal. Nothing else.

I've been into preferences and double checked that it's pointed at the right Project Templates folder (it is).  No dice.  I've tried to work around by creating a Custom Templates folder, pasting into what I want (my Custom templates, oddly enough) and still, nothing.

I have opened templates, saved them under new names (as template files, of course, easy mistake to make not picking the right drop down) but still they don't seem to get noticed by Sonar on opening the create New Project File box.

I am unaware of anything I may have done to derail this handy, and possibly essential opening function.

Thoughts anyone? There's every chance I'm simply being dim.  Thanks in advance.

have you gone to the C/Cakewalk content/Sonar x2/Project Templates folder to see if every thing is still there?

Yes, you bet. I copied it all over to the Custom Templates file I created as well. Opened some, resaved, renamed etc, they remain invisible

When you save them did you make sure they were saved in the template format with the cwt extension?

John--I was about to say the same thing to Willowby.  The templates need the cwt extension.

Yes, I'm finding it hard to save a new template as well.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left...

It's always worked OK here (just saying so you know it *should* work).

Could it have something to do with permissions? Maybe run SONAR as administrator?

Otherwise it sounds like you're doing the right thing...

I had the EXACT same issue a while back and cannot remember for the life of me what I had to do to fix it. I do know it had something to do with the file path..something was screwy...I'm will to bet it's something there...it was a really strange and VERY frustrating issue, though, and wish I could help you..I wish you well.

    Try this:

Outside of Sonar, navigate in Windows Explorer to the folder containing the project templates.

Once there, click once up in the navigation bar to highlight the path and copy it.

Now, go into Sonar Preferences File Locations and paste this path into the place for project templates.

Now give it a shot.  (All the above does is remove any small typo you might have had).

If the above does not work, try this:

Open Sonar again, and close the Quick Start dialog box.

Now, go to File>Open, and navigate to the folder where all your project templates are.

If you see your project templates here, then that means they were saved with the CWP extension, rather than the CWT extension.

    Thanks Bob.

I've tried both parts of this workaround just now, part one made no difference: the file path was right and/or is the same.

Re-navigating but they've come up as saved with the .cwt extension, there's just one "Autosave" copy of the Normal template saved under the .cwp filename.

Yet somehow just the Normal.cwt file shows up in the Open New Project box, not the others (as described initially).

    Thanks for your help anyway,

This may be a silly question, but is it possible you added the CWT extension in the file name but had CWP specified as the file type?

Just wondering if you ended up with something like templatename.cwt.cwp - if Windows is hiding the extensions from display this would appear as templatename.cwt, but would actually still have the CWP extension.

Just wondering -I really have no other ideas on this - sorry,

I was grasping there - but I have never ever had issue with files in an open dialog box window.

The thing is, Sonar uses the standard Windows Open file dialog box call - this is actually performed by Windows through the call from Sonar, so it really makes no sense.

Is there any way to send me a couple ose templates in an email?

I will momentarily send you my private email address in a private message, so you can attach them to an emil to that address.  Maybe I can see something there.

To all - I did receive an attached template from willoby, and had no trouble seeing it and opening it in X2, so I really do not have a clue as to what has happened to his installation.

My recommendation was to have him back up all custom content and remove and install Sonar again.

One thing you could try, and my apologies if this has already been suggested, but locate your aud.ini file and delete it.

Sonar will build new one the next time you boot up.

So I went to Cakewalk support who suggested much of what we've done on here, culminating in a full re-install. That didn't fix it either. Mystified.

Is it possible your system does not have an association for the file extension CWT as a Cakewalk Template?

I don't understand at all what is happening on your system.

I don't understand why this is happening.  Did you run the Sonar installation specifically as Administrator?  (not with an administrative account, but actually choosing the option Run As Administrator).

    Please try this:

    1.  Navigate to your Project Templates folder.
    2.  Double-click on one of the templates.  This SHOULD open Sonar and have it open that template.

Please do the above and post the results.

Installed as an administrator (certain of this) and saved as .cwt (this I have checked over and over)

Just did that - double clicking led to the file opening in Sonar as it ought to
