James, what a great place to live! I was walking in Forest of Galloway a couple of years back and spent a weekend in nearby Glen Trool. Some spectacular names of places - almost right out of Tolkien. We climbed up Mullwarchar, next to the beautiful and remote Loch Enoch, and also the Nick of Curleywee. But we could just have well gone up Rig of Jarkness, the Rhinns of Kells, Craigeazle, Corserine or the Lump of Eglin. Great place - pity you have to wear a net on your head during the months of June to September...

Tough place to live James I would struggle with that every day. I would have to struggle out and drink my morning coffee everyday. Which would then be followed by me struggling to go for a walk with the dog (possibly dog's) for an hour or two. This would probably involve me having to have a rest and just be for a moment or thirty. I think you get my drift. Thanks for sharing James and thanks for your warmth.

57Gregy That's beautiful! And not another house in sight. FBB, are people who live in Peterhead called viruses? sorry, James, couldn't resist I don't know if you've ever been to Peterhead (or Peterheed in local speak) but it's a whole other world. It took me about 6 months to understand the locals completely, no I'm not kidding. When I go back to visit I usually end up translating for those that have never been before. There's such a broad accent coupled with a lot of colloquialisms that when all run together sound like a different language loosely based on Scottish. I really enjoyed the 2 or 3 years there despite the weather. Aberdeen is a great city and the golf courses around that area second to none. I think Marshall (Bill) who frequents the song forum lives in Aberdeen which isn't far too far south of Peterhead. I'm sure he can vouch that I'm telling the truth. Fit like Bill? if you're reading this.

If you see Macca, tell him I thought Temporary Secretary was rubbish..... Macca seems to get seen more around these parts these days. Home of the 'frog chorus' which unlike Temporary Secretary... no, no, perhaps I'll leave it there.

Wow! That's beautiful! I've been to England and Ireland plenty of times but never managed to drag me arse over to Scotland - YET!! That photo really made me want to go to a place like that and just wind down for a while. Perhaps I'll put in an effort to go to Scotland this summer. After all, it's really just a short swim away from here! Thanks for sharing your view and your story

That is very beautiful indeed. I have a view of the underside of the back porch of the apartment building next door. I am however, only five minutes walk from this:

This is what I used to see from my bedroom (looking East)... Here's one alternate look - the line of fog shows where the Sandy river goes by... And this is looking North - the Columbia river is about two miles away...
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

I spent a fair bit of time there as well in a previous life. Usually well north at a place just outside Andselv and sometimes beyond. Usually in the winter and again the nature of my job meant I was up and about at night and holed up during the day so apart from when I had the odd day off at the end of the job, saw very little most of the time. I'd compiled a list of places I'd been while working and wanted to go back to for a proper visit once I started living a more 'normal' life. Norway was at the top of it. I went on one of the "up the coast cruise hops" in mid January. Started out in Bergen and ended up in Kirkenes. A fantastic two weeks and on my list of "must do again one day".

He he, yeah, I hear it's a good trip along the coast line. Yup, Norway has it's bright sides. Doesn't mean I've found my paradise here. Oslo is a filthy little pretending-to-be-a city IMO and I really, really, really hate the snow. So I'm mostly uncomfortable here. However, the summers can get really nice - if we're lucky. I have seen very little of the northern part but I have family from Vågå in Gudbrandsdalen which is a natural pearl - again in the summer - and I really like it there - in the summer that is My current view however, is nothing like the ones we've seen in this thread LOL

Old55 Beautiful stuff, guys. FBB: Norway is on my list of places to visit, too. If scenery is your thing you won't be disappointed. I was working with a couple of Canadians once over there and they said had they not known where they were they'd have thought they were in the Rockies. Not that I'd know, I've never been to Canada unless you count a couple of hours on the ground in the back of an aircraft at a place called Goose Bay. It was dark then as well.

My dad's side of the family is from Scotland, and my mom's side is from Wales. One of my dream trips is a lengthy UK visit to track down the family. It'll happen one of these days. And I'll be sure to track down all the UK Sonar users as well. I'll be the one always drifting onto the wrong side of the street.
