The End of the MP3 Encoder Controversy - MP3 for Free!

What with the PRV transform tool and other improvements, some people may have missed that the patents for MP3 encoding have expired, so Cakewalk no longer has to pay a licensing fee...which means MP3 encoding is going to be free. Pretty cool.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

Whew! That took some time.

Very glad. Now I don't have to keep installing the public version for each client! 👽

It was included (at least) until Pro Audio 9 as far as I can remember.
I have used Aarons MP3 encoder thus far instead of digging out old Cakewalk discs.

I paid 10 for it over a decade ago and then had to again within the past year. Seemed silly but also seemed silly to not pay for something that my end product needed to be. Many thanks for this great news.

Great news! Although it's long overdue to switch to OGG and/or FLAC.

I've used FLAC for a year or so, and Am much happier with it, compared to MP3.

If we're runnng the early release update 2. Is it necessary to run the new installer for this to work?

Not a major issue for me as I've had it since back in the ProAudio days...

It depends on your use case. Ogg is really popular in gaming. It's a bit lossy but holds up well. Great for background tracks or fx where 'quality' won't really impact the experience.
