The Job Well Done Thread. a.k.a The atta boy/girl Cakewalk thread

The purpose of this post, and resultant thread, is two-fold:

  1. I am selfish. I freely admit that personality flaw.  I will discover, from other posters, gems and other new and nice things about X1 that I have yet to find on my own while I wait for Scott's book.
  2. It gives me, and perhaps others, an opportunity to acknowledge that the folks at Cakewalk incorporated some nice ideas into this version and encourage them to continue same.

A request to other posters to this thread.
Although this is an open forum, I am the original poster (OP) and please request that you only post gems, good things and discoveries - please refrain from posting gripes or complaints to this thread.
Why?
Well a short glance at the listing of threads in the forum will clearly show that if you have a gripe or maintain some other disenchantment you can easily append your thoughts to the [insert name from a long list] thread - or start your own.  Please don't derail this tread.   I believe a few of you will feel compelled to do otherwise (why?  I don't know), but please try.  I've read a litany of posts describing the weaknesses of X1, and I have added my own voice to the choir in that regard.   But this thread is the "flip side".

Thank in advance for your cooperation.

My Favorite Feature.
I'll start by saying that the single most useful feature for me are the Screenshots.   I have a studio system and a road system.  The studio system is multi-monitor and that gives me enough visual real estate to display what I need to produce.   On the road my display is limited to a laptop.  The screenshots are such a wonderful idea and truly facilitate my workflow.  Thanks Cake folks.

The browser is also incredible. I'm surprised that there's not more talk about it.

I've set up an opening Screen Set that includes the browser opened to the Media folder I've created to store my Custom Track Templates in and I can load any instrument instantly from there. Collapse the browser, play around, expand the browser, load another instrument, collapse, play etc. Sweet.

The Skylight Bar - has changed everything for me ( HumbleNoise)

I use a 30" monitor @ 2560 x 1600. Those icons in 8.5.3 were tiny.

I like the Smart tool. It can do most editing tasks so no more switching tools for different tasks or views, etc.

The Smart Tool is the biggest thing for me (right now).
And then the selection filter.
And then the ability to highlight and automatically have nodes created.
All very, very nice!
I find myself still ALT- 1'ing and 2'ing (instead of ALT- 0'ing and 3'ing) between Track and Console Views instead of using the screensets. So I am happy they kept that ability as well.

I'm still trying to figure out what I couldn't do with the old tool. I seemed to be able to do more than I can do now and do it faster.  The old way of grouping tracks was faster and simpler as well.

I think the fact that Cakewalk supplied the  first patch less than 12 days after the global release was super duper.

I think the fact that Cakewalk hot fixed that patch within 36 hours was exemplary.

Happy New Year!!!

mike

Well, I'll add another good thing.   I suppose I have become so accustomed to the function that forgot the mention the ability to click on the wheel mouse and up pops the tool menu. So, no matter what screen I am working I have a quick access to the proper tool.  This, of course, in addition to the contextual and automatic tool selection.

Thanks for bringing that up...I took it for granted I suppose because I was busy with the holiday season.   Which, in turn, makes Cakewalk's issuance of the patches all the more impressive - I'm sure some of them were busy with the holiday season as well.

It isn't impressive at all. They broke ASIO with the patch and the patch was things that they knew they broke going to manufacturing. No should ever have to patch something that fast.

Awesome 10Ten,

I got to use the 'block user' feature of the forum for the first time. You're obviosly angry and cannot control yourself enough to leave even one thread alone. I get the frustration but your words are powerful and you don't need to post them in every thread.

BTW I had forgotten about the middle mouse function. Use it all the time.

Look, it is real simple.  Either you missed my request and just typed a response...fine.
Or
You did read my request and decided to ignore same...well, that is indicative of your attitude.   Like I stated before. It's an open forum.  I can only "request", you and and others decide to ignore or grant my request.

I have to wonder that if you took your car to get an oil change and you got it back and it wouldn't shift gears would you defend the shop and talk about how awesome it was that your radio still worked.

Ya know John I really did take it for granted.   A bit spoiled I suppose.  But somebody was working the keyboards into the night to get them out and they were appreciated.   They did fix some things for me.  As Mike stated, "exemplary".

How about IHateSonarX1.com?

To Katherine, I just don't think it's possible to prevent toxic spillover in this forum at this time. Block User is the only recourse. I can guarantee engaging those who are angry with pleas for good behaviour is a pointless endeavour.

Thank you.  I did use the Block User per your suggestion.  I gave him the benefit of the doubt of missing my request.  Benefit removed - attitude verified.

But, since I am here.  I'll add another thing I like.   Adding synth tracks.  I press B, grab a synth and insert it to the tracks. Press B again to close the browser.  Same with dragging and dropping FX to tracks from the browser.  Fast!

I'm enjoying smart tools, screen sets, pro channel and being able to drag and drop plug ins, synths, etc, etc... Skylight rocks too and I love the UI. Kudos Cakewalk.

Nice thread Katherine. Good to see most everyone posting positive things with X1. Yes. It needs some TLC, but better days are coming.

Nobody's telling you what you can and can't say, but here's a word of advice.  You and a few others have made your opinions abundantly clear in countless threads and now you're just starting to look like whiny little boys.  You obviously don't realize or comprehend that you've singlehandedly destroyed your own credibility with your ad nauseum complaining in many peoples' eyes and, by now, the more that you whine and carry on, the less we listen or care, particularly when it's completely off-topic in the thread at hand.  So, you can continue to carry on with your childish nonsense and keep derailing threads and lose any remaining credibility that you may still have, or you could grow up, smarten up, and issue your complaints through the proper channels and relevant threads.
