Question: How many have gotten Scott's SONAR X1 Power! book? http://garrigus.com/?PowerBooks

Question: How many are looking forward to Scott's SONAR X1 DVD tutorials? http://garrigus.com/?ProAudioTutor

Scott

I'd already done the poll, so for Scott's supplementaries:-
Sonar X1 Power: Yes ordered, and on its way across the Atlantic to me!
Videos: Can't wait!

John
Thanks, John! I appreciate it and I hope you like the new larger format for the book.

How is X1 working for you so far?

Scott

And -- 80% don't know anyone else who uses Sonar?  Hmmm  interesting result.

I actually know a few (I talked them into it lol).

Are you hiding from them until X1b comes out? ;-)

Ha, they're not a problem.  Some of the people on this forum might be ;)

Only 42.9% use VST effects? I suspect that number actually reflects the percentage who understood the question.

57.5% don't crash, but 88% think it's good. Does that mean 30.5% get crashes but don't mind?

And only 53.6% think Brandon is cool? Sorry, Brandon. Maybe if you went back to the purple coloring. (Seth, just be glad your name wasn't included.)

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Less than 43% use VST instruments and effects? So nearly 6 in 10 people then use it as a glorified audio recorder. No wonder so many may have not had the luxury of experiencing a crash. Those in the 57% bracket who proclaimed Sonar X1/X1a was the bees knees might want to push their systems a little harder to see what all the fuss was about.

To my surprise a lot of people are using X1 on their regular system that is connected straight into the internet. I think that could lead to some instabilities (non-releated programs interfering with X1), and performance problems (by unneeded processes from other programs). I

This really shouldn't be that big of a surprise.  Many people can't afford (or don't have the space for) a second computer just devoted to non music use.  Especially if you are a game player that would mean you would need two really good computers.   I can think of a lot of other stuff I would rather spend $1500 or so on.

Also with an i7 etc, if your computer can't run Sonar and Firefox at the same time, there are others issues.

Re:The Offical results of the Unoffical X1 Poll 2011/03/21 16:24:21 (permalink)
Well - I did build my own simple music computer.

Just bought a motherboard (Gigabyte), processor (i3-550) with silent cooler, a simple case and a silent power supply + pair of hard disks. The whole thing took about € 400,- to buy. Add a OEM Windows 7 to that (about € 85,-) and some time to put the pieces together. The monitor is a second hand 1680x1050  22 inch Mirai that I bought for € 35,-. I used the sound card (ESI Juli@) from my main computer I was using before to make music, and that was it!

I am not a rich guy (like most people living from art) so I bought the components spreaded over a few months, but sometimes you just have to be a bit patient and have a bit dedication.

I can tell you it is much, much better to have a computer for browsing the internet and gaming and a separate computer for music production only (b.t.w. it is very convenient to have a manual on one screen and the program on another).

I can tell you I never experienced any crash or strange behavior (apart from the known pre-X1b buggies), so I am very happy with this arrangement.

What I was trying to say is that even humble amateurs like me can -with some effort- get a stable and dedicated system that is not costing you a arm and a leg. And X1 runs really smooth on the system...

If you are looking at the Results posted in this thread, he is only showing the #1 spot. You need to visit the actual poll to see all the results to get a better picture.

2nd place (with almost as many votes) was "VST and DirectX Synths and Effects". Therefore the actual number of people pushing their DAW to some degree would be around 80%.

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!
