The Senderella "Recording the audio of a VSTi in real-time on a track" thread
What is suggested in the title will not work. To quote scook:“Plug-in output is not recorded in SONAR. The only solutions are VST recorders, loopback (with physical and virtual audio connections) and bounce using live input. That is it, there is no more.” There are several threads in this forum that can help you with these work-arounds. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Recording the audio of a VSTi in real-time on a track is not possible in Sonar without a workaround. I am determined to find an elegant and perhaps a bit less than elegant solution to recording the VSTi audio in real-time on a track in Sonar. I love to work with waveforms. I stack them, stretch them and do many un-mentionable things to them. So for me to be able to easily record the audio out from a VSTi is crucial. One workaround: would Senderella work? It’s a VST fx. It’s free. http://www.kvraudio.com/product/senderella_by_subminimal/detailsalso http://www.kvraudio.com/product/stream_boy_by_elevayta $29 I suppose the Senderella is inserted it the VSTi audio effects as a VST. Then a second Senderella is put on an audio track to record the audio and to view the waveform in real time? But Senderella is not a VSTi so how does it work? Has anyone tried Senderella or something similar? Click on the “Audio Routing”. http://www.kvraudio.com/product/senderella_by_subminimal/details

If it is a plug-in (the Senderella download link in kvr is stale), the output will not be able to be recorded in SONAR. The link I provided above details the methods to record plug-in output: VST recorders, loopback (with physical and virtual audio connections) and bounce using live input. That is it, there is no more.

scook, Thanks for taking an interest in my predicament. Yes Senderella is a VST fx. Let me open let's say FM8 on a track and in the fx bin put Senderalla (mode = send). I then put the Senderella (mode = Return) Wonder why the audio output will not be recorded? As it turn out I had downloaded Senderella some time back. If that is an issue then I can insert Bidule VSTi on a track and open Senderella inside Bidule and that should work? I should then be able to record the FM8 audio on the Bidule track? In the case I use Bidule then there may be other possibilities for routing available besides Senderella.

Not to mention that for your use case, simply freezing/bouncing seems fine.

The only thing a track can record is the assigned input from an audio interface. That is how it is designed. There are no workarounds. To record the live output of a hardware synth you plug it into an input on your interface. To record the live output of a software synth you route it to an input on your interface. There are two ways to route a softsynth back to the input. With a cable connecting an output back to an input, or software routing within the interface driver.

Thanks all of you that have helped me understand the situation. On the OP I inserted: What is suggested in the title will not work. To quote scook: “Plug-in output is not recorded in SONAR. The only solutions are VST recorders, loopback (with physical and virtual audio connections) and bounce using live input. That is it, there is no more.” If there is more I should do please let me know.

Let me re-phrase the above post and perhaps get some feedback: Is there anything to be gained by opening the programs separately, not as VST/host nor rewire. This way both programs have the hotkey focus when their window is on top. Correct? Will I be able to copy/paste or drag/drop audio tracks or clips between these two DAW's? How about to copy/paste or drag/drop midi notes or midi track or clips? My FL Studio 11 has stopped working.
