This one's for James

A while ago, I teased James about an old photo of himself he posted. Karma came back to haunt me, as my sister posted this on Facebook yesterday. Have fun guys.

The memory is a little foggy, but the wife says I wore high top sneakers with red laces. As for still fitting me, It probably still would but I honestly haven't seen that jumpsuit in over 25 years. It's been a challenge to convince my kids that it was a cool look for a rocker back then.

That's the guitar the rhythm guitar guy in one of my old bands used to play - except his was black. 1990. Never new it was a Peavey though. Had not seen one since...

Re: This one's for James 2014/03/29 16:56:37 (permalink)
I wish I had my one and only rock picture still.  I tried and tried and tried to get my hair to look right but it usually just got weird waves in it as it got close to passing my shoulders.  I had my mom's hair dresser straighten it and tease it for that one big gig I was in at the Bacchanal in San Diego (12/9/84), and the picture showed me holding a custom black flying-V (the one belonging to the drummer) in front of a Marshall full-stack.  I'm wearing black leather pants with a black leather-ish shirt with a horizontal yellow zig-zag pattern (kind of an inverted Charlie Brown shirt) that opens down the front.  Add a pair of s***-kicker black boots and there you go!

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that this pic was lost when ONE box was apparently left on the moving truck when I moved to the Pacific Northwest.  Naturally, it was one of the boxes filled with irreplaceable stuff like old pictures, old Martial Arts belts and trophies, old darting plaques and magazines and old skating trophies and medals...  I can't believe someone probably thought "What is all this junk?" and just threw it away instead of trying to figure out how to get it back to me (heck, my name was on enough of the stuff!).  Still unhappy about that...

Plaques were from league (been playing for over 30 years).  Tournaments (where I beat that Juan guy) rarely gave plaques or trophies, just money and points (national and, on two events, world points).

Yeah, both Randy and Rain are on my list of those who, annoyingly, always seem to have the right look for any time (from my jealous point of view  ).  You know what they say, some of us just have a face for radio...

Yeah, what DID happen since?  And unlike Kenny I ain't kidding...

Those wristbands really are cool but only if you had the matching leg-warmers.

I've probably got some worse nearly as bad stuff in the archive, but I don't have the inclination to look, nor a sibling that would seek to destroy me in such a manner as publishing such material to the internet*.

When I first saw my sister had posted this picture with the caption "Anyone know this 80's rocker" I was kinda shocked. I hadn't seen this particular photo in over 25 years. Then as the day went on and I saw people responding on FB that I hadn't seen or heard from or barely remembered, it brought back some memories I hadn't had in many years. Yeah, the picture gives me a good laugh at how we musicians dressed back in the early to mid 80's. And yes JB, I had the leg-warmers, but I only wore them while doing the Jane Fonda workout. Never on stage. As you can plainly see, I had style.

I was thinking that Randy looked a lot like the guy that beat up on Daniel Son in The Original Karate Kid Movie

in all fairness , here you go Randy , here's what I used to look like back then

in the top pic I'm playing at a college gig …
the guitar I'm playing was made for Peter Frampton ….
I wound up buying it because the luthier was not in a position to just give it to him for free
eventually Buck Dharma  was know for using this model …..The Vulcan , he used a 2 pick up I used a 3 pick up
he acquired his about 2 years after I acquired mine

the bottom pic was a few years later …about 1980 ...
