Time to start talking about the new year subscription options/changes?

As a Sonar owner for may years I opted for the Platinum monthly offer starting in January 2015, with the monthly charge of $14.99.

As the first year of the subscription plan/option is closing, what will be the best offer for us current owners?
What will the monthly payment be in 2016? What savings could we see if we pay for the annual cost in one lump payment?

Bakers?

If you make with 12 monthly payments you will own Platinum by January. With an annual one time payment you would have saved about 30 bucks so if you liked what you got in 2015 it seems a better deal to go annual. I imagine the rates would be somewhat similar for next year but as Andrew said its yet to be determined.
We'll definitely be doing as good or better next year now that we have some momentum :)

This is great news. I thought as much but to hear it said is pretty cool. I just hope the bakers don't burn themselves out. For CW 2015 has to be a very special year. I know it is for me.

January begins this coming week.

However, I will be mildly surprised, but happy if price is lower, naturally, if price is not as exactly as already stated on store page:   $199 for SPALT for a year, I think CW is just putting off this "news"  but you never know

this time last year at least the upgrade from X3 to SPLAT had AD2 with AD2 pro pak, and few other add-ins not to mention an initial SPLAT program to gauge your moneys worth by - BEFORE paying.

My subscription was started in March. It is my understanding that they won't hit me up for renewal til then. In other words it's 12 consecutive months, not necessarily January to December. IMO of course and it's just as likely I'm wrong as right. Not sure why I posted now!

After my 12 consecutive payments of $AU17.99 per month (for Sonar Platinum), the Cleverbridge confirmation notice indicated that this would increase to $AU26.17 per month.

This prompted me to check the Cakewalk store for the price there.  On there, my price for the one time one year membership for Sonar Platinum was $AU175.00  (works out to $US127.80)

So I cancelled my monthly membership and purchased the one year membership for Sonar Platinum for $AU175.00.

Eventually, one year was added to the expiry date in my Sonar Platinum Help|About.

It now expires 5 Jan 2017

Seems to me to be a bit of a paradox. If you buy Sonar months after the original release and you get 12 months of updates. You must have still received all previous monthly updates in the first download months after the original release. So the longer you wait to upgrade the more updates you will receive.  Or Something ;)

Cakewalk has the same people, working at the same cadence, and they certainly haven't run out of ideas. So if you liked what happened in 2015, the odds are really high you'll like what happens in 2016. If you didn'tlike what happened in 2015, the odds are really high you won't like what happens in 2016. Same thing as deciding whether to renew a magazine you'd been receiving, or eat at a restaurant where you'd eaten before...your decision would depend on your previous experience.

In any event your existing software will still work

I will effectively own SPLAT on Jan 22nd (2 and a bit weeks time). I have NO idea what is going to happen after that. I have made 12 monthly payments. CW - why can't you inform us what the subscription will be after this? This is cutting it a bit fine really.

I think we need to give the bakers a little grace. They'll work it out. We still have our software. It's not going to expire if you paid the annual fee or 12 consecutive months. When they're ready, they'll release the next update with renewal information, and we can decide then.

I agree Leadfoot - but what I am pondering is what to do about my next payment. Will it be debited as normal? For the same amount? Do I cancel? Do I do nothing and hope? 2 and a half weeks to go, and I am uncertain as to what will happen. I am not whining, and I am just wondering. :)

Do you have your Cleverbridge payment notification confirming your 12th payment? It should show you in that email what the new monthly charge will be.

Here is my experience with the renewal

After I received my Cleverbridge payment notification for my 12th consecutive payment, I simply cancelled my monthly membership and purchased the 12 months up front membership for Sonar Platinum for AU$175 (US$125.16).  Eventually , 1 year was added to the expiry data as shown in Sonar Platinum's Help|About.  It now shows as expiring in 5th Jan 2017. All this was done on the cakewalk store. Sweet as!

Of course I could have purchased monthly membership for $AU17.99 (US$12.86) per month for Sonar Platinum if I wished.

In my case, the trick was to NOT do nothing.  If I had done nothing, my monthly membership, according to the Cleverbridge payment notification for my 12th consecutive payment, would have risen to AU$26.17 (US$18.71)

Again been here longer than most currently on this forum (1989)- I just don't post - i just use the SW and make music.

I paid full, up front, whole year last 16 Jan 2015, for upgrade from Sonar X3 Pro to SPALT.  Great deal at $149!  But I got a year of updates with "free"  AD2, AD2 pro pak, and some other  add-ons PLUS SPALT as it existed last Jan.

Yes I know I "OWN" it (as much as you "own" any software) that's NOT THE issue.

But they (Andrew for sure) have alluded to something better than just "send us $199 (call it 200) up-front for my annual renewal"  (assuming, I want it) especially since this time around I'm paying BEFORE I get anything new.

As I said YES I KNOW I still have and can use my existing SPALT in "perpetuity" (it seems) - just like I could with CWPA 9!   And as I said Cakewalk has NO OBLIGATION to supply ANYTHING, really, for that $199 "fee." I know they will but it's all UNKNOWN.

we are JUST starting the  batch of annual renewals so it's all new to all of us!

How would you respond to this ad from say Microsoft or Native Instruments or.... any other SW:  "send us $200 and we'll get back to you."

This was discussed ad-nauseam last year.

If you skip "n" months and reup all the "content" that the paying members got for those "n" months you WILL NOT get.

Remember; "content" being things like loop libs, Craig Anderton do-dads etc.

Since SONAR/Drum Replacer/etc are core operating code anyone who skips "n" months and then reups WILL get all those changes.... because the installers are cumulative (i.e. K includes all L changes etc.)

Re: Time to start talking about the new year subscription options/changes? 2016/01/05 18:38:43 (permalink)
Sir William
Just checked my account and I am being informed my next payment is due this month, on the usual date, for EXACTLY WHAT I AM PAYING NOW!!
What the hell is happening? Some subscribers are getting a discount on continuation, I am not.

When I got my 12th payment confirmation notice from Cleverbridge, it also showed that the following month's payment will be more than the previous month's.

I wanted to go from monthly to yearly, so I cancelled the monthly membership and just purchased the yearly from the Cakewalk store.

My Sonar Platinum now shows as expiring on 5th January 2017

I dare say that if I wanted to remain on monthly, I still would have cancelled the previous membership so I would not be billed at the higher price.  I would then have simply purchased monthly from the Cakewalk store at the original price.

It's confusing for sure, but this worked for me (purchasing the new yearly after cancelling the monthly).  I am sure Cakewalk will provide clarification on renewals very soon.

Look, there have already been several threads addressing this issue that have been banished to the Cakewalk Store by the moderators so that no one would read them. Those threads, like this thread, have nothing to do with "problems around the Cakewalk Store" but rather with the pricing of Sonar renewals which are available to Cakewalk using the new membership model. The most germaine is probably http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3343815. This one apparently survives in the Sonar forum because Cakewalk employees have contributed more or less useless comments. Rather than re-type the stuff I have already contributed to this discussion I refer readers to:

Grow up people. Cakewalk is a good company and Sonar is a good product, but it is a business not a family, and you are not their friend you are a buyer of their product. They owe a legal duty to those who make money off their efforts to extract the highest price that you will pay. If you have to pay more to continue your membership than a new member would pay to start one, it is because they have determined that you will not waste the time and effort to learn how to use the software by abandoning it now, just because they have not given you a "loyalty discount" equal to the "introductory offer" they are willing to make to entice new users.

Those threads were moved to the Store forum because they were about billing and renewal, exactly what the Store forum is for.
This thread is still here because I missed it.  If you choose to believe there's conspiracy of silence then go ahead, I can't stop you.

This thread may as well stay here as the Bakers have posted have answered the OP question. (3 weeks ago).

Incidentally, the same questions were asked, and answered, exactly a year ago....
