As far as the chickification of the superbowl - it is entertainment w/ a dash of sports leavened in.  Can't leave half the market share hanging.

El Rushbo was discussing this topic in recent weeks.... Quite a few ladies called in to say that they did not feel left out by having a manly game. Somehow, they too enjoy seeing big sweaty guys going head to head on the field of combat known as American Football.

Imagine that.

As someone who has been married for many years and who still likes to live indoors during the winter, I prefer to use the term, "Culturally Enhanced" instead of "Chickified".  Hey, it's really cold out there.

I don't know of anything scarier than hearing her say, "I'll show you 'Chickified'!".  [/shudders]

More importantly, what / who are these Clydesdales? Can someone inform us culturally unenlightened across the pond with any relevant links?

Those are the Budweiser Clydesdale Horses. It's been a tradition to have them be the subject of at least one of the Bud commercials.

Personally I've never liked all the ancillary crap that goes along with the SB. I wish it were no different than a regular season game. At halftime I want to hear the analysts break the game down and then get back to the game. But that just ain't never gonna happen. And the commercials, just like modern music, simply reflect how shallow and creatively constipated our society has become. It is as Roger Waters so eloquently stated: "This species has amused itself to death."_

I can tell by the look in your eyes that we don't see many things the same way.
I can say I've never really evaluated the quality of "life" or musically entertainment by
watching the super bowl.
And by Eric Johnson's new release...I'd say things are going very well with music.
Personally I always thought half time was a break to re-stock.

You might be surprised... I bet we'd at least break even... and that ain't half bad in todays world!! As for the avatar? That's not me, I swear. My buddy snapped that photo just before I shot the SOB(the alien not my buddy). Caught him red handed raiding the garden and I won't stand for that!! Grow your own damn it! That's what I told him just before I touched off both barrels. I've got him in a Cryogenic tank now along with Tim Leary's head... now that's an odd pairing but it somehow works. On a lighter note, only humans could be silly enough to attack and demonize a beautiful plant. And if you look beneath the surface economics are usually at play... all the rest is just a convienient smokescreen for the real threat and it all makes perfect cent$.

Thanks Bub, and to think I passed the Budweiser "Beermeister expert" exam at the Busch Budweiser center at  Busch Gardens in Tampa circa 2001 ! Mind you, I'd do anything for a free beer ....

As per the request about Clydesdales, Bud has made a bunch of commercials using them, usually cute ones (commercials, not the horses).  One of the best was when the horses play a game of football and kick an extra point.

How can I take offense, when I don't even know what the heck you're sayin'? :)

I guess those extra 2 years I spent in high school didn't pay off after all.

The Peaheads had a bad mix, and Fergie was a bit shouty.  Slash looked like he didn't want to be there long before Fergie tried to turn him into a stripper pole.

I have to admit though, I am almost fascinated with that band.  It's like they are the urban version of Spinal Tap, except that BEP fans are not in on the joke.  Maybe they have decided that as long as the beats are slick, they really can't go broke underestimating the record buying public's intellect.

I am not sure what you ment by that really, but I think alot of American football fans would stand with me as I say Blow Me!

I have had a few beers tonight & this maybe a little over-defensive, but what a blantantly opinionated comment to make.....  whatever.

What ever happened to the traditional marching band at halftime shows?

Yes, the echo effect sucks, but they need no mix, and they need no monitoring!  Most of them use no singers, need no Autotune, and they'll play any damned song ever written!

Maybe next year they can get the Blue Man Group to play with a skilled marching band.  You know, just to avoid being ignored by the media.  I've been there, sweating it out in practice during July and August, and then playing with sensitive music instruments in the same snow and sleet that the players are playing in.  The marching band works harder than many teams, only to be ignored when halftime comes around.  It's a tough job.

Of course, it wouldn't be the real thing without chearleaders and baton twirlers!

the whole American fascination with football is really quite stupid.
especially when stereotyped.
(Not implying any disrespect or anything by that).

Largest viewing audience in American history....and they're all quite stupid?
Disrespect or not you sure surprised me with that.

Lets see....
Sports. Yes a good thing.
People gathering to have a great time and cheer for their team- another good thing.
Cheerleaders- a very good thing. ( I'd like to see them perform a half-time routine) Yeah boy.
Advertising fun- a good thing.
A reason for musicians to perform- a good thing.
Financial gains for many- a good thing.

So what's stupid got to do with people enjoying
themselves with enjoying the best of the pro's playing
a game?
