Track highlight/selection doesn't reflect in PRV editing

This issue is carried over from Post #11 in the thread below:
"First-time Sonar user: questions/concerns"
http://forum.cakewalk.com/First-time-Sonar-user-questionsconcerns-m3545629.aspx#3545629

CURRENT ISSUE:
The PRV doesn't seem to reflect my highlighted/select Track in the Track pane. The PRV doesn't respond to single/double-clicking anywhere on any Track in the Track pane. To do that, I have to highlight a Track and choose Views-Piano Roll View every time, to force the PRV to show hat Track's notation data.

ABACAB: You mentioned try clicking in the Track clips area. I have no clips in my Track Pane right side grid/work area; it's all blank. (Per my image in Post #14, all tracks are collapsed to single-line.) I double-click that right side and it highlights the Track, but doesn't "select/pick" it for PRV editing. As you stated, highlighting a Track has nothing to do with the PRV editing.

Is it supposed to be this way? Isn't the highlighted Track supposed to automatically appear in the PRV grid? Just the same, isn't the PRV supposed to reflect the highlighted/selected Track? That's the way it's been in past DAW's I've used, unless I'm still not understanding...

(I test this by assigning a different instrument to each Track for sampling, and playing keys.) I can confirm the PRV is not working hand-in-hand with the Track pane and it doesn't (or has never) reflected my highlighted Track, unless I force it in either of these ways:
1) Highlight a track, then select Views-Piano Roll View to populate the PRV with that Track's data
2) In the PRV Tracks button, select Pick Tracks (followed by Track # selection)

I have contacted Cakewalk tech support to see if this is an interface thing or user error.
I just want to know how to select a Track, and have that Track's notation data appear in PRV as I think it should. :)

Changing a Track or Clip selection in the Tracks view does not modify the contents of an open Piano Roll View (PRV) automatically.  The PRV is also not clip oriented, which means that all clips from a track will be available for editing in the PRV even when you only select a single clip from a multi-clip track.

If you wish to change the contents of the PRV, then you must perform one of the following:
  • Double click a clip on the track that you wish to display in the PRV.  The double click behavior is set in the Options > Click Behavior > Double-Click > MIDI Clips menu in the Track View menu.
  • Right click on a selected clip or multiple selected clips and select View > Piano Roll View option from the context menu.
  • Select a clip or multiple clips and select Views > Piano Roll View from the Main menu.
  • Select a clip or multiple clips and press Alt-3.  This assumes you have not changed your keyboard shortcut.
  • Use the Track > Pick Tracks... dialog in the PRV to select the track or tracks to display.

Hope this helps,
-- Ron

Thank you for your answer, Ron. I had always asked myself why it's not more intuitive to simply select a track for editing in PRV.

I don't record instruments or import clips into my work. I compose my music completely in the PRV, drawing each note manually. Therefore, I opted for bullet #5, which puts that technique appropriately in-line with my PRV editing.
